Can't Compare to Sony A7R III for 4k Video
As reference, I'm a professional videographer whose footage has been featured in numerous network science/nature/educational documentaries and museum exhibits worldwide. I specialize in extreme macro, micro and tele footage. I really wanted to love this camera having shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 7D for close to 10 years and owning a slew of Canon glass and accessories. But, sadly, this camera can not compare to the Sony A7R III in ... Show More

Major changes that aren't spoken about much...
I'll start off by mentioning the Focus System. Although it has 61 focus points, 41 being cross type, like the 5D Mark iii, it is not the same focus system merely spread out more and rated at lower light levels. It's a far more intelligent system, the same one that's in the 1DX Mark ii. The RGB+IR metering also changes things. There are far more ways to customize the camera than before, I won't go into that here, but check out the video on Youtube... Show More

All-Around Awesome!!
My full-frame experience began with the 5D Mark II, which shot super-sharp images (with the right lens) but was marred by shadow banding, too much color noise, a slow buffer rate, and a very limited auto-focus system that struggled in the shadows. Then, I moved to the 5D Mark III, which had a much-improved auto-focus system with a central focusing point sensitive down to f/8 but did little to improve low-light image quality--or many of the other ... An honest review from a satisfied buyer
My title is not to imply that other reviews are not honest, but as much as I like this camera, it does have a couple areas of disappointment. I consider myself a semi-advanced hobbiest. I love photography and learning as much as I can in order to be a better photographer. For me, it's a great hobby but I doubt I'll ever make a living at it. Nevertheless, here is my journey to owning the 5D Mark 4, which was a Christmas gift to myself, and my revi... Show More

After a brief stint with a GFX, back to ol' trusty...
I made the leap to "medium format" with the Fujifilm GFX 50s back in April, but in order to fold it into my workflow meant giving in to restrictions on what software I could tether to, and adding a step or two getting up and running with adapted lenses, etc.. Not ideal for a working photographer. Good advice from a colleague ("Don't add any unnecessary steps between arriving to a shoot and starting production)," so I ended up moving away from the... Just Right - 30mp, WiFi, and Killer AF
As a magazine photographer, this camera seems to really bring home all I am looking for in a camera. First, I have been shooting with 8mp all the way up to 50mp. Back in the day, 8mp certainly worked, but I've quickly realized that 20+mp really helps in all categories for my work. The 36mp in my friend's D810 was always a pipe dream, but that camera is really slow to work with by comparison. Canon has 50mp in the 5DS/R and older sensor technology... Show More

From night to day!
Let me start saying that this is not a deep review, but my preliminary thoughts as I didn't have the time to actually test the camera in many real work situations, yet. That said, coming from a 5D Mark II (and a 60D), I can definitely say, it's a difference from night to day, literally! The 5D Mark IV can see (and focus) in situations so dark I could barely see with my naked eyes and with the proper set up (preferably with a tripod, but not i... Show More

Nice Upgrade
There's a lot pros and cons so many more qualified folks have commented on but I do agree Canon did not do a very good job with 4k and that's a shame. It is a certainty a lot of Canon video shooters are disappointed and will jump ship for the other companies offering better video solutions. This is why I only gave the camera a 4 star rating. Canon is capable of better and sadly it seems we are going to lose a good portion of our Canon community b... Show More

Great Cam but Not Sure EMF Shielding is Best it Could Be
The Canon EOS 5D Mark 4 may or may not have an electrical energy shielding issue as I will explain. Bought my Mark 4 from B&H shortly before my second three month journey to France in 2017. I love the camera but it was affected by a problem that still worries me. Likewise I still love and use the older Mark 2 that I carried previously on a 2011 Paris journey. I had no major problems with either camera except the one I will describe. In 2017, I ... Show More

Better in Every Area over Mark III
I've shot on 5D Mark III's for years, I bought a Mark IV when the shutter died on one of my Mark III's after nearly 500,000 shutter actuation's. I shoot mostly photojournalism and in tough shooting environments/conditions and tough-to-shoot lighting. I will compare the IV to the III when able to as some of you are probably interested in upgrading and want to see if its worth it. I'm not gonna mention much with technical specs, its gonna be more f... Show More

Great Camera BUT Could Be Even Better (details below)
I have used 6D, 7Dii, then the 5DsR and just now the 5D Mk IV. To me, this is the go-to camera (but i do miss the 50MP awesome sensor if i crop). In short, this is IMO the best Canon camera to date for stills photographers. You get all the stuff you know and love from the 5D, plus a better/newer sensor, a very responsive touchscreen that works GREAT, a couple more pretty useful buttons on the back, great image quality and D/R, the best IMO user i... 5D IV is a Milestone - I've Stopped Reading Review Sites
I have few negative things to say about this camera, and most of those would be resolved by purchasing a 1Dx Mark II. If you took the online camera press coverage at face value, you might conclude that Canon's latest 5D is a flop. I assure you, it is not. Strengths: I wanted to hate the touch screen, but I can't. It's very snappy, and fault tolerant. High ISO performance is very good within the useful range, say, 1600-12,800. I say that as a form... Show More

Pretty Much Perfect
The 5D series has never been about being the 'most' of anything. It's never been the fastest or highest-resolution, nor the prettiest looking. Instead, the 5D has always been the 'Goldilocks camera' just enough of everything you need to make great images, all beautifully integrated into a user-friendly camera. Having used the 5D series since the original 5D, I had high hopes for the newest iteration. So how does it fare? First, the positives: a g... Show More

Great Images & Great Value
This is a great value package for a camera and lens. With the Canon rebate the printer was almost free! My kit was the camera, the 24-105mm f4 L IS II lens and the printer. The kit did not include the grip. Camera and Lens: I have had the camera for 6 weeks now and I've shot over 3300 images with it. I have shot Canon since my first 35mm AE1 Program in the 80's. Moved to the T90, a camera ahead of its time. Then to various eos cameras the past 15 years. My 5d Mk ii has around 200k frames on it and still going strong but it was time to upgrade in case the mkii failed. Working in a small town I have found the need to be very versatile. A Step Forward from the Mark III
I've only had the camera for a couple of weeks but I have done several tests that show this is a significant step forward for the 5D camera line. I do mostly landscape and nightscape and was really hoping that Canon's new sensor was capable of competitive performance as far as dynamic range. I was not disappointed. The Mark III is an excellent camera for nightscapes and does very well at high ISO, but the Mark IV is a little less noisy at high IS... Show More

It really is a good camera. The 5D series is well-known as all rounders. The auto white balance is very good, files are easy to work with in that they need less adjusting for white and black points in LR than ones from my 7D Mark II. Auto focus works well and has many many options and control points to manage it with. Camera operation is smooth, consistent and reliable. BUT - It stinks that Canon does not include a pop-up flash at least for remot... Show More

Not perfect (esp. for 4K video) but overall great camera.
I'm an amateur photographer and upgraded to this body from my 5D Mark II. It's a huge improvement in a number of areas. Of course the image quality and high ISO performance have improved significantly, and you can also shoot at a low ISO and do insane pulls in lightroom, even +5EV and get pretty clean results, much more than you could with the Mark II. The AF system is also leaps and bounds ahead of what I got on the Mark II, though I still don't... Show More
