Worth the wait and the money no question

I switched over from a Canon EOS 70D to the Sony a6000. At first I thought I would be missing the big body Canon but quickly after I started using the Sony my mind eased. I have gotten some great shots with the Sony that i wouldn't have been able to with the Canon due to its size. The quality of the shots I have been getting from the Sony are remarkably colorful and sharp. I have the Sony 50mm f/1.8 lens on it and I am pretty sure it will almost ... Show More

Fast focus and wonderful picture quality

Jan 12, 2015

I was ready to step-up from my Sony RX100 but found it difficult to decide. I've been happy with Sony but could not make the leap to my dream A7S because of it's high price that would still come with compromises. Is there one camera to rule them all? Well, my primary purpose is shots of my kid along with some vacation landscape etc. so it must be quick (get just the right moment) and it must be rich/sharp. The Sony a6000 meets all my expectations... Show More

Smart camera

Jul 7, 2014

A6000 is a small camera crammed with many features. Not all of them are useful to me. I will mention some features I like the most and several drawbacks. + Focus peaking and a tiltable LCD enable me to take decent pictures without keeping the camera close to my eyes. It would be even better if the LCD can be seen from the front of the camera (like in RX100 III), so we can have the sharpest selfies on earth :) + Hand-held twilight (HHT) and anti m... Show More

Best value in mirrorless today

Sep 15, 2014

Great image quality. (Better than my Canon 70D or 100D/SL1.)Great auto-focus speed. (A bit faster than 70D, especially in live view, and WAY faster than SL1.)Small and light, but NOT TOO small and light. (Easier to carry than 70D and even the very compact SL1. But, still easy to grip and hold.)I have only used it in Fine JPEG mode, not Raw. So, I can't comment on Raw quality. But, JPEG's are crystal clear, and enjoy Sony's built-in lens correctio... The truth about the a6000...

Jan 24, 2018

I recently purchased the sony a6000 and have been a long time a77 user. I love my a77 and especially the kit lens it came with while bulky it is extremely sharp. The a6000 is not the same, so if you are looking to replace a DSLR with a mirrorless let me say, "Don't do it!" Keep your DSLR and use the mirrorless as an add-on. Here is why the a DSLR performs better than a mirrorless. 1. Lense distortion and blurring at the edges of the image. On ve... Show More

Simply best in class

This is my second A6000. I have bounced between the RX10 series and the A6000s. I currently own the RX10III and a new A6000. With my previous A6000 I used the 28-70 FE lens and was very pleased with the results. This is a much maligned lens but has very good optics...see best lenses for A6000 on dxomark.com. I also purchased the Sigma 60mm and was equally pleased. As everyone says it's a sharp lens. I never tried the kit lens so this time around ... Show More

Great camera with a few caveats worth noting before you buy as a new photographer

Aug 16, 2019

Brand new to photography five years ago, I purchased Sony a6000 for both my wife and I (disclaimer: we did not buy it from B&H) At the time, mirrorless cameras with the capability and price point of the a6000 seemed the perfect fit for us. The positives: the camera is, small, light weight, very reasonably priced, and now, a reasonable selection of lenses are available. Five plus years on, ours still works great, but we are very careful with it ... Show More

Overheats, LCD flaky, focus soft

While I enjoy the form factor and the feature set, I would only trust it to take pictures of indoor pets. Every time I take it to the river to take pictures of the sunset the LCD screen blanks out when the camera is turned sideways, aka portrait orientation. Right before the screen blanks out there's lines that run through the screen reminiscent of a TV losing reception. Even when I turn off the EVF and have the LCD on 100% of the time it still g... Excellent kit

Apr 19, 2016

I bought this kit with the A6000, 16-50mm lens, and 55-210mm lens on sale in December. I'm very happy with the A6000, I also own an NEX6 and I believe the A6000 feels more solid and professional than the NEX. The camera came with the latest firmware installed which included the XAVC-S codec for video. The shutter noise is much quieter on the A6000. The buffer for shooting multiple shots is much better (though RAW will fill the buffer much quicker... Show More

Nifty little camera

Dec 13, 2015

I decided to get a mirrorless when I finally got sick of lugging around my full frame dSLR and multiple lenses on day trips to the city or the occasional day/night out when I would inevitably leave my real camera behind. I haven't used it extensively yet, but from what I see I really like the camera. It has everything I wanted in a mirrorless and for the cheapest price on the market, and being a Sony I didn't fear any scam. The picture quality is... Show More

Good Value

I've only had the camera for about a week now, but I've had enough chance to use many though not nearly all of its numerous features. I had pretty high expectations from this camera considering the top reviews it has received at its launch, and for the most part my expectations were met. The fast focus system works pretty much as hyped--very fast and pretty good at tracking. The photo quality is very good, even with the kit lens I've been using (... Show More

Solid performer for video and stills

I used to shoot video on a Canon T3i, my thought process being that I'd invest in their lenses and upgrade the bodies accordingly. I love that camera, especially with the ML hack. It was reliable and versatile. I needed a b-cam so I bought a Sony a5100. The size alone made it far more likely for me to use it in situations where a dslr would be impractical or prohibited.
