Massive Improvement over previous model

Jan 13, 2015

I take mainly family photos and landscape (especially seascape) photography. This new camera is the latest in a long line of Sony's I have owned - initially a Minolta 700, then a Sony A700, then an A900 full frame, then the original A77 and now this one (also bought an RX-100 Mk2 which is amazing for it's size and resolution, not to mention light and easy to tote around). This new version of the A77 builds on an already super-impressive camera. I... Show More

Newest Addition to The Stable

Dec 27, 2014

This is my newest Alpha Body. I have experience with Sony as I have owned the A55...still own the A65 and now the A77II. This is a Christmas present (I bought and handed to my wife to wrap...yes I acted surprised), so not a lot of time on this. Out of the box...battery on charger...Once that was done I connected the parts and added one of my Raw Steel SD cards. The card was corrupting playback stills and would not load on my computer. I had to think long and hard aout this purchase

Aug 13, 2015

I had to think long and hard before making this purchase. I currently own a Sony Alpha A55v and am very happy with it. But I wanted a second body so I change lenses less often. So should I buy a good used A55 or step up my game and cost and pop for the A77II. Well I bought the A77II and I am very pleased. The pictue quality is excellent and it is fairly easy to adapt to after using the A55. But it is enough different you need to practice a bit. T... Show More

Best Camera I've Ever Owned!

Jan 14, 2016

I sold my a700 and bought this camera in November 2015 and I'm so happy I did! This camera has so many features that I didn't have with the a700. There are so many focus points it would be very hard to take a picture that's not in focus. It has many options for configuring the focus area for every situation you can imagine. I find I use the expanded spot the most so I can control the area that's in focus. One thing that's handy is the AF Micro Ad... Show More

Great Camera

Aug 22, 2015

Since purchasing this camera three weeks ago I have used it to take in excess of a thousand photographs, not counting an overnight timelapse video. The photography has included long exposure work, event photography for clients, and some personal projects. So far the camera has worked flawlessly. I can't always say the same for my use of it, for there is a significant learning curve and the menus are different from my Sony A99V. The two cameras us... Show More

Light, durable, great vertical shooting

Jan 19, 2015

First thing to know when you buy this set up is that the battery and battery charger do not come with this product. B&H tells you what is included in the box. Read carefully. It did not concern me because I had two other Sony cameras that took the same battery. The Sony battery grip is good because it is contoured to allow you a grip for vertical shooting, the design is built in with a separate button for vertical shooting. I use the 80-400 Sony ... Delighted - even more than expected!

Jan 1, 2015

When I first discovered my passion for photography, I bought a Minolta X-700 system from B&H 35 years ago. As photograph has progresses, I eventually bought a Canon bridge camera to learn the basics of digital. Since Sony bought Minolta and entered the DSLR market, I have watched their progress and when I was ready to finally get back to the SLR type cameras, I picked the Sony 77-II because it it appeared to offer all the features I wanted. A few problems - but overall very good

Aug 5, 2014

Very happy with our first outing with this camera. Shot about 1000 frames on a trip to Alaska. Also shot a few minutes of video just to make sure it worked, but not enough to comment on. This body replaces a Sony alpha 700. Most things work as advertised, and I am not going to list everything that was good. Except for the things that I listed below, the camera lived up to Sony's claims. I do want to mention two items that were good. The autofocus... Show More

Enough To Bring Me Back To Sony

Jul 20, 2014

After selling off a complete Fuji X-T1 system I looked long and hard to see what system would deliver the goods. For my paid jobs as well as personal. After trying several offerings from all the major manufacturers this A77MkII hit the mark. Not only is it a pleasure to use regarding it's setup and operational ease, but it is built like a tank without weighing like one. Everything just works. The focus system on this camera may well be the fastes... Show More

I have had my A77ii for about 3 yrs. now. This camera is a beast. From the time I purchased it, I could see by the amazing specs that this camera was LOADED with technology. So I knew that if I didn't get results that I wanted, it might not be the camera. I always feel to this day I have a tool in my hands that I am STILL learning how to get something more out of and I do achieve great results consistently. First of all for less than $1200.00 you... Sony A77 II

Mar 31, 2019

I have had two models of the Canon the first was an EOS rebel , then I Made the mistake of buying the Canon T-6i which I knew I would never get the performance that I wanted to get from a camera. Then I went all out getting the A77 II. I saw the difference between the A77 and then what I wanted to buy the A77 II . Now I see that Sony is changing the Camera line using a Mirrorless camera and the shape of the camera all together. When I am holding ... Show More

Mark II as Great as its Little Brother

Mar 24, 2015

I already had the A77 mark I and I have been extremely happy with everything about it. I wanted an upgrade and like the full body feel of a heavy camear because it forces me to be a little more careful and the step up to the A77II was ideal. I would say almost 95% of the camera is the same, but the upgrades are why I purchased it. The faster and more sophisticated focus tools are fantastic and the program dial has to be depressed to turn, which p... Show More

Performance without weatherproof

Nov 26, 2014

I've used this camera for a month and its focusing performance and image quality was brilliant. Everything finished after I took some photos in a cloudy day in October this year (a day without rain but with some increased humidity in the air) at the shore of the sea, when it performed well but when I went back home and tried to turn it on after a few hours it refused to start and a red led was blinking with a sort of a code that repeated periodic... Excellent camera for the money.

Dec 22, 2014

I put off upgrading from my Sony a580 to this because of the translucent mirror and because of the electronic viewfinder (evf). After using the camera for a few days, I have not noticed any extra eye strain or fatigue due to the evf. It is bright, crisp and clear. All menu items, image review, zoom focusing, focus peaking, camera level, setting and function changes, etc can be accomplished through the evf if necessary. The buttons vary in feel. T... Show More

Geat Upgrade

Feb 7, 2017

I have been using the original Sony a77--a lot! -- for about 3 years in an almost entirely outdoors environment. Feeling it was time to upgrade, it was just natural to look to the a77ii. Being familiar with the format and setup made adjusting to the new camera very easy. I love the a77/a77ii's ease of use. I shoot mostly birds (with the Sony 70-400 GSMII lens) along the New Jersey beaches and jetties, the marshes of Forsythe Wildlife Refuge as we... Show More

Great price for a great camera

Dec 30, 2014

I had been using an A700 since it first came out years ago. I decided it was finally time to replace it but was a little intimidated with all the new cameras that are out on the market. I knew I wanted to stick with Sony because of the lenses and accessories I already owned. I bought an A58 and tried that for a few weeks. It wasn't bad but I wanted something a little better with more features and was weather sealed. I came accross the special B&H... Show More

Great Camera

Sep 1, 2015

I shoot a lot of photos -- both of night sky, and of sports. I previously had the a65, but upgraded. The mega pixels are the same (24) so I knew that would be similar, but this camera is an upgrade in countless other ways. The focus is much faster, it also tracks the subject a bit better. The auto white balance is better, which makes sports photos much faster to process. You are getting a crop sensor camera that acts like some of the pro cameras.... Show More

The batteries are the same, you can interchange the batteries between the two cameras. a580 Upgrade

Seized opportunity to upgrade during camera body w/ grip offer in December. The upgrades over a580 are material. The EVF viewfinder is the most obvious improvement over the previous camera's dim little OVF. The camera's focusing speed, tracking and accuracy are just excellent. The build and form factor are also just right for me, with a large, comfortable textured grip....buttons in just the right places etc. Perhaps the only negative is the imag... Show More

I've been using this camera while I've traveled over the past 3 weeks, and here are my general impressions. First, the camera is super easy to use. Very intuitive, easy to find menu, submenu, and sub sub menus. Getting into the bones of it, and figuring out how to accomplish what you're looking for (setting focus parameters, capture type, etc.) is very easy. Very intuitive camera

Mar 28, 2017

I actually have two A77V bodies which I realize are a bit old. I just replaced one that was lost to a rogue wave on an Iceland beach. Even though the camera body and lens were toast after being swept into the ocean and dragged along the black lava sand beach, the memory card compartment was dry! I was able to rescue the card and save all the images, my main concern (other than my near drowning). I've been using the A77 cameras for 3 1/2 years and... Show More

Nice camera but there are cons

Oct 23, 2014

Nice camera for the price but there are cons: (1) The battery drains down very fast even with keeping the live view monitor closed and using the view finder and shutting it off between shots, I am only able to get 250 shots before it goes dead. (2) It takes a few seconds to turn back on and makes a lot of quirky noise doing so. (3) This camera has a tendency to over expose at times for no apparent reason. (4) Whites are very easily blown out. (5)... Show More
