Great, clear pictures

Got this for wildlife photos. Nice zoom and photos are decently sharp through out all focal lengths. Good buy.

Sharp when it can get focus

Aug 23, 2019

I have this lens paired with the G9. I have only used it in daylight conditions due to the aperture. Perhaps it is the copy that I have but sometimes, it can't focus on the subject and I am sure that I am outside of the minimum focus distance. It makes it frustrating to use when you want the shot. When it does grab focus, the photo is sharp. When I don't have a sharp photo, it's something I did like slow shutter speed or camera movement. I als... Show More

Great tele zoom

Aug 9, 2019

Tried it and so far the lens is sharp, contrasted and fast enough for a light portable solution. I use it to complement my nokton 17.5mm f0.95 in my travel photo kit.

just OK

Aug 3, 2019

I bought this lens looking for more reach than my other Panasonic lenses, which it has, but it is not as sharp. I also did a comparison, which ended up not seeming fair, with my Z7 and a 200-500 lens and it wasn't even close. I was hoping to not have to lug around that huge lens and was even considering selling it, but not now. The 100-300 is still a decent lens for when I'm willing to sacrifice some quality for the sake of travelling light.

Surprisingly Sharp

Jul 2, 2019

I own the Panasonic 100-400 and consider this my go to lens for nature photography. I purchased the 100-300 when on long hikes or when I am carrying a lot of other equipment and weight is an issue. This lens fills that niche quite well. It is 1/2 the weight of the 400 mm and is quite sharp. With my G9, I can comfortably carry it all day.

With an equivalent length to 600mm this lens is excellent! Very sharp! Cant wait to put this on a g9!

You get good value with this lens

Jun 5, 2019

Initial impression was good. Solid (plastic) construction, nice heft without being too heavy, not overly large (balanced well on an Olympus OME-EM1.1), zoom and focus rings were smooth. Time to take some pictures and see what the lens could do. Manual focus is proportional to how fast you turn the focus ring (rapid turn gets you large change in focus distance, slow turn is fine focus). That took some getting used to but worked well with S-AF + ... Show More

Good when it feels like autofocusing

Apr 28, 2019

I already have the Olympus 75-300 and that lens was questionable on my Olympus OMD-E-M1 mark i so when I purchased a Panasonic G9, I wanted to get a Panasonic lens. I purchased this lens and sometimes it produces a sharp picture but other times, it cant achieve focus and Im positive that Im more than 5 feet from the subject. And, birds in flight, you have a better chance of winning the lotto. In no way does this compare to my Canon 7D and my now ... Show More

Great little lens

Feb 14, 2019

Quality is good. Works well on my Panasonic G9. Great walk about lens for wildlife and nature photography. Get the mind spring 30 holster bag to carry your rig with the lens hood in the shooting position and youll be ready to shoot in an instant. Suggest a Manfrotto 694CX monopod with the spike foot and pair it with the 494C2 ballhead. You will have a perfect light weight quality system.

Does the job

Sep 20, 2018

I am new to serious photography and use this lens with a GX85. Auto focus works great in good light. Still struggle with action photos, birds in flight. Focus peaking seems not to work. Maybe the shallow depth of field. Manual focus does fine. Two lightly processed photos follow.

Crashed My Oly EM-1 Mk ii

Sep 9, 2018

Put this lens on my EM-1 mkii to test. worked for a couple of images, then no autofocus!!. Changed back to my olympus 14-150, still no autofocus except in i-Auto. All other modes would not work. Went home and a)updated camera firmware and b)tried other lenses - only in i-Auto would auto focus work. I mean nothing, no hunting, no center squares, nothing. Out of desperation I did a Full Reset to my camera, and it restored autofocus function. Next d... Show More

Just okay. Not much better than the original

Jun 30, 2018

I was hoping that this version II would be significantly better than the original, but it's not a huge improvement. Autofocus is still much slower than the 14-140 (which I love), and it definitely shows some chromatic aberration on high contrast subjects (see the eagle photo). It does have good reach though, but is better with stationary lower contrast subjects than birds against a blank sky.

Sharp lense

Jun 25, 2018

I couldn't believe how sharp the lens is. Of course it's slow but it seems like the auto focus is faster than my other Panasonic lenses. The is is strained of course. I do love it though.

Impressive, sharp, discreet

Jun 19, 2018

I rented this lens for 4 days and I've used it extensively. This lens is not small, but compared to a full frame equivalent, it's very portable. No issues with lens creep, the zoom and focus rings feel great. I took this lens out to shoot a local soccer game. For fast action, this lens is not very fast, but with good light, it works fine. Once the sun goes down, your images are not going to look good since m43 doesn't really excel at low light. ... Show More

Why is this lens so cheap?

Apr 13, 2018

I've just spent the afternoon with my new lens on a g85. This thing is absurdly good. Razor sharp, great contrast, outstanding IS, lightning fast focus, dead silent, excellent build quality ... Ok, it's not a fast aperture... but for outdoor photography, it's mindblowingly good. This is a shot I took in low light, sensor cropped with the in-body "Ex Teleconverter" for an effective 1212mm (35mm) focal length. It was roughly 15' away, and measures around 3". 1/3s exposure, iso 200, f/5.6. Honestly if I'd paid twice what I did, I'd be happy.

Love this lens

Mar 28, 2018

Debated the 100-400 and this lens, but in the long run could not justify the added expense for the 100-400. I received the lens a week or so ago and have put it through it's paces. Sharp and lightweight. Highly recommend.

A bargain

Feb 27, 2018

While not the equal of the Panny/Leica 100-400 this is a very good lens, especially considering the price. It's very sharp from 100 to 200, and only very slightly less so at 300. Honestly, when you consider that this is a 200-600 "equivilant" (angle of view only) it's a great addition to your kit.

Great telephoto lens for travel and sharp photos.

Jan 18, 2018

The combined OIS and IBS stabilization on my Panasonic G85 gives this lens at least 5 stops of increased sharpness. The hand held photos in good light look like they were taken on a sturdy tripod. This is a fun lens to walk around. Just get this lens. Your SLR FF 300mm 2.8 lens will not get as much use.

Great telephoto

Jan 11, 2018

This is one of the two lenses I find most flexible and buy again (the other is the 12-35mm). Like the crispness, the image stabilization, the autofocus camera capability in conjunction with the lens. Note: i primarily use the camera in the AFC mode, adjusting ISO to f-stop i want that give shutter speed 1/60th or faster. Haven't used it yet for extended exposures on the tripod. I expect limited movement with a stationary background will be very interesting

One of the best consumer lenses I owned

Jan 6, 2018

I am a nature photographer and I was looking for something smaller and lighter so I ended up with the Panasonic G85 camera. I was looking for a decent lens to do nature shots and after reading a few reviews I ended up buying the 100-300mm II. When I first got the lens I was a bit concerned because of the small size. Coming from some big Nikon and Pentax lenses I did not know what to expect. The lens is tiny compared to my other lenses but it's c... Show More

Excellent lens. Much better than the previous model

Dec 24, 2017

I love this lens. Small and light for the reach, and it auto-focuses very fast and mantains the focus with moving subjects like flying birds. Much better than the previous model. I use it with an OLY OMD EM1 mark II. I let the OLY do all the work on stabilization, and it works like magic. I prefer Oly bodies and Lumix lenses. The Lumix lenses are lighter, smaller, and perform extremely well. I would definitely recommend this lens. Now that I have... Show More

Just what I was hoping for

Nov 13, 2017

I upgraded from the old 100-300 Mega IOS lens for the increased stability in wildlife shots. In test shooting it has performed better than I had hoped. Hand held shots at maximum zoom are entirely feasible well below the rule of thumb 1/focal length shutter speed. Shots have been very crisp pushing this lens to its limits. I do not enlarge my pictures beyond 8X10 usually, so absolute sharpness is not critical for me. This new lens does seem sharper than the old lens. Plus, it focuses fast except in dark settings with little contrast. I do miss the graphics of the old lens.

Good sharp lens with a manual focus quirk

Sep 1, 2017

This lens is very sharp and is solidly constructed. The splash and dust resistance makes it a good pair with a weatherproof body. It also gives a nice out of focus effect when at 300mm. The lens is very big and heavy, but that is to be expected for a lens with these focal lengths. However, the size and weight kind of makes the camera body feel like it's just along for the ride. I am using a Lumix G7 and it can be difficult to get a good, smooth z... Show More
