Great for scanning 35mm film and slides
For some reason this scanner is getting horrible reviews on Amazon. Despite the reviews there, I came to BHphotovideo and checked out the reviews with verified purchasers and seems to be much better. This is my impression after two days of using the scanner. The scanner itself is pretty simple to operate but is not without a few things to note. I have been feeding color and black and white negatives into my scanner, no slides yet. The scanner... Show More

Could not, would not work!
Im running Windows 10 on a top of the line Dell Desktop. I use several art programs but my main art tool is Adobe Photoshop CS5.1. Im by no means a computer wiz but I have downloaded and used several different scanners over the years without any problem whatsoever. Im currently using a Canon 9000F but wanted a dedicated film & slide scanner for the thousands of old slides accumulated over the years. Anyway I was excited to hook up my new Pacific ... Show More

This scanner absolutely works great!
I worked for daily newspapers for over 20 years, and had to scan photos on deadline. Maybe one of the nicer scanners was actually made by Kodak in the 90s, the Kodak 3570, because it made dust disappear, but it had limitations, like it's only 18 megapixels max. The Nikon scanners, like the 4000 and 5000 later on were pretty good. I've scanned thousands of images on the Nikon scanner Super Coolscan 5000, and this scanner right out of the box works... Very sharp slide conversion
Am using the Pacific Image Prime Film XAs to convert old 35 mm stereo slides. The images created are very sharp with a good dynamic range. The CyberViewX driver software supplied with the unit is old and does not load. I downloaded the most recent version from their website. Upon installation, several other programs on my PC which previously worked stopped working. The CyberViewX software overwrote Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable with a... Show More

Happy so far
Im about 2 weeks into using this and have scanned about 100 images so far. It came with the laser soft software on a cd so old it wouldnt load on my Mac but I was able to download it. However as a newbie I found the Cyberview software easier to use and it does a reasonable job of noise removal and color correction. The scanner itself is easy to use even though the user manual is useless. I figured out how to do the basic stuff through trial and error. Really nice not having to use film holders. Havent tried scanning a slide yet. All in all Im happy with the purchase so far.

Very sharp scans, pretty easy to use.
Its early days yet with my new XAs, but so far I like it a lot. The scans are way better than the Epson V700 is was using before for 35mm negatives. Much sharper and better dynamic range. I gave up pretty quickly on the supplied software, though. I use Vuescqn, and I like Vuescan, and Vuescan makes the XAs much easier to use than the supplied software. Batch pre-scanning works great, as long as you take a little care to line up the first frame. Then you can look through your pre-scans and choose which frames to run the real scans on. I typically use the 5000dpi setting.

Great 35mm scans
It took me some time to achieve a scan I was happy with trying multiple scanning programs until I achieved something I was happy with. No fault of the scanner. But once I had my work flow going it works out great! Just wish it was easier to scan Xpan panoramic 35mm images. Its possible but takes a lot of time.
