Canon Mini Cinema Camera
To really value this camera, you have to use it. I have the Micro Cine Camera and Micro Studio Camera from Blackmagic, both have a sensor very similar to the XC15, and being a film format (Super 16) did not doubt about its capacity. I always thought it would be good to have the Micro Cinema Camera, with an included screen and a versatile compact lens. Canon invented that with the XC15. I think if they had named it Mini Cinema Camera, they would s... Show More

A very polarizing camera, but it is a solid package.
It's been close to two months since this camera's release, and it's proven to be a very polarizing release for Canon. In some ways the XC15 is definitely an upgrade to its predecessor, the XC10, and in other ways it is more of a 'lateral' movement. I think it all depends on your expectations and how you need it to fit into your arsenal of tools. I run a small independent production house, and we do a lot of event capture. We started with Canon DS... Show More

Solid 4K B-Cam - Great for travel or docu-style work
Recently replaced a C100 mki with the XC15 as a B-Cam to a C300. The C300 and the XC15 make a great combo and are easy to cut between as both have WideDR color profile. We generally use the 24-70 2.8 on the C300 and only need to add a bit of contrast to the XC15 to get a clean match. The Good: - Very good bit rates and image quality. - Build quality, better than expected. As solid as a 5D with STM lens. - ND filter - yes it's usable. - Touch scre... Show More

Requires a big paradigm shift, and it's worth it
I've got the third one of these on the way. I shoot occasional client jobs lately, but spend more time teaching high-school-age filmmakers. I've been a digital filmmaker since the Canon XL-1 and Final Cut Pro 1.0. I've owned and sold a lot of equipment, including DSLRs and mirrorless cameras used primarily for video. There are three things that I consider essential tools to add to the camera bag alongside these cameras: a variable ND filter, an u... Show More

Most underrated camera out there today.
We recently picked up an XC15 to accompany the C300 Mark II as a B-Camera. It has outperformed my expectations by leaps and bounds. The image the comes off the XC15 is on par with a camera costing $10k more. You cannot spend $2400 on anything else that will deliver like this. 4K, slow motion in HD, built-on lens (which I thought I would hate), Canon color and a strong codec all are solid, and look great. 4K is recorded to CFAST 2 cards. HD is rec... Show More

I love this camera!
The XC15 (and the XC10 before it) seem to get a bad reputation from the reviews I've seen online. I'd say that those reviews are based solely from looking at the spec sheet, and not actual hands-on usage. I've gone through a lot of $1500-5000 video cameras in the past few years, and I hang on to them for a few months before I sell them on down the line. The XC15, however, I'm keeping! It's a great camera. The image quality is incredible, it has c... Show More

Big step up from XC10 but still could use a few things
First, I primarily shoot with a Canon C300. Often working in remote locations with archaeologists - often handheld - a day with the C300 rigged for audio (shotgun and wireless) can leave me whipped. So, I bought the XC15 and did some testing. I found that I could very closely match the two cameras in post. We shot interviews in a controlled lighting situation last week with both cameras running and the results in matching the images in post were ... Show More

A fantastic product made better
Many of you who read this will already know about how robust, sharp, and beautiful the XC10 image was and is. I'll not remark further on that except to say the XC15 is the same, with more choices, and an all important waveform to facilitate exposure. What excited me about the XC15 was the addition of XLRs. As a professional musician I saw this as an addition that was sorely needed, especially for recording music and talking head videos. The XC15 ... Show More

a post script to my first review
One thing I failed to mention in my initial review is something that prevents this camera from being completely sufficient in and of its self: adequate internal ND filters. The XC10 and 15 have only one level of in-camera ND covering about three stops. Consider the aperture goes only to f 11. What this means is on bright, sunny days there is no in-camera adjustment that can be made to prevent over-exposure. It can only be prevented by use of an N... Show More

My favorite HD/4k camera
As an owner of a GH4 and Canon C100, I believe I have some perspective and I can give this camera an unbiased review. I just took it out for filming on Long Island and it worked great. Picture quality is astonishing. It has the high-dynamic range setting, like my C100, that I enjoy using. The lens has a very useful range, and the stabilization is superb. If you hand hold the camera, even zoomed all the way in, it appears as though the camera is s... Show More

Fantastic camera in specific areas!
The XC15 is a camera that surprised me positively. It is a great buy if know what to use it for. We are mainly using it to record online cooking tutorial and the camera delivers beyond my expectations. Pros: - fantastic video quality - ease of use and the way the camera feels while shooting - battery last forever - canon auto focus works superb with integrated lens - small size and light weight - 4K - price and what you get for it - canon color ... Soft image, terrible audio adapter design.
I tried this camera for a week. I have always been a mega fan of Canon's warm, flattering, colors, and wanted a 4K camera I could afford. I had a couple issues with the camera that ended up being deal breakers. The first major issue is the audio adapter design. There's no shoe mount on it, and it attaches to the camera's shoe mount. I guess they expected people to just use the audio adapter's mic holder for everything, but only the absolute thinn... Show More

My new primary choice
I won't get into a lot of the detailed spec gnashing that some have already done here, but I will say that for the price, this was really great deal. I've been getting very professional results for a lot less money and hassle than a lot of folks spend to get really mediocre results and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface on all of the options with which this thing gives me to work. It's kind of a no-brainer that I pick it up first when I'... Show More

Manual
I recieved xc15 and was disappointed with the fact you spend over $2000. for the camera and the full manual was not included. The quick start menu is a joke for a camera with it's abilities far beyond. I down loaded the full manual at a print shop and had it professionally bound as I spend a lot of time shooting in South East Asia. The full manual is what should have been shipped with camera. All cameras have different learning curves and a GOOD manual helps in this area. I now look forward to using the camera as my B camera. Thanks B&H

A good small studio camera
I've used it to shoot podcasts and presentations, and I am very pleased. It does need more buttons, and more than one level of internal ND filtration would be appreciated. The headphone volume is lacking even at the highest setting. The shock mount on the audio adapter does not do the best job when moving around. You pick up knocks and bumps in the audio. Otherwise a solid purchase for someone looking to move up from DSLR video shooting.

Lightweight and amazing image quality!
Small, lightweight and amazing quality. Sometimes the big production cameras just don't work. This fits nicely on the handheld gimble and coupled with the camera's Image stabilization provides smooth video quality. I do wish it would sync with strobes when in the still photo mode but otherwise the still image mode is still fantastic. I think Canon got the auto focus right, it seems to be dead on every time.

Better in Practice than on paper
This thing and its predecessor, the XC10, get little respect in this fast paced world of new cameras. But images in UHD are stunningly good. Zoom range handy, and ergonomics great. Detriment: slow autofocus, low light performance not great, and too slow for stills. Used outdoors, or in well lit areas, it is a great value and very cost effective as a grab and go camera. No frills, no fuss.

Don't Under Estimate This Camera
I bought this as a B Cam to my C100 and Mark IV. This little camera is so much fun to shoot with and the 4k picture quality is stunning! I use it as a run and gun in my recording studio for BTS. The touch screen autofocus is quick and precise. As others have acknowledged, having to re-adjust the aperture after zooming is the biggest negative. Even still, I would highly recommend.

Excellent Camera - great quality
My main camera is a C300. This complements it perfectly and makes a great second camera. Shooting in 4K makes it easy to compose a variety of shots in the edit, and the ability to match profiles ie excellent. If you are on the fence about this one don;t worry - it's an excellent camera and well worth the money!
