Rolls HA43 (Pro) - This goes to 11!

Feb 15, 2009

There are two Rolls HA43 amps: The regular, and the Pro which is what this review is for. Be sure you're getting the Pro! It has more features, looks better, and costs the same or less than the regular version. This is a great little headphone amp, especially to improve a PC's sound quality and volume. It's small, simple, has some great features, and the sound quality is excellent. I can't compare it to the real pro headphone amps out there that ... Show More

Great - with one limitation

Aug 21, 2015

I purchased this so I can watch movies at odd hours and not worry about the noise bothering my neighbours. Multiple ports allow company to watch with, and each person can adjust the volume level to their comfort. I looked at different models & this struck me as the best bet. What I like about it: You can connect your audio source via RCA or 1/4 jack. In fact, you can have two different sources permanently connected. The volume sliders are easy to... Show More

I bought this amplifier to to provide additional gain for a pair of Sennheiser HD 424 vintage headphones. These phones are high impedence (1750 ohms) and cannot be driven well by my computer sound card or my Android phone. This box did the trick. I use the other outputs for connecting additional phones. Very convenient for comparisons etc. Also, having an external physical volume control is useful. Uses 12 volt power - so its easy to power from t... Show More

great, very clean headphone amp

May 21, 2013

this is the best bang for buck headphone amp. i use it to monitor and record guitar music with a lot of distortion, and effects as well as clean passages . i can hear a lot of the high order harmonics dissapear when i use a cheaper lower qaulity unit that was only a few dollars less. with the rolls ha43 all those highlights and overtones are there again just exactly as direct. i also have a foam head with high end microphones implanted and i reco... Works exactly as advertised

We have a high end A/V receiver with only one headphone jack, and two sets of headphes with different impedance levels. Using a passive splitter resulted in one set of headphones being much louder than the other. This amp is the perfect solution. Small (important in an apartment), does the job with no perceptable difference in audio quality, and way less expensive than comparable units. I also like that the output jacks are in front. Works like a charm, Sounds great

Aug 19, 2010

Bought this in an emergency to provide remote headphone monitoring for Director, & DP at a small video shoot and couldn't justify the cost of Pro quality Sound Design or PSC units. Sound quality was excellent though probably not what you would want to use for critical monitoring or mixing situations. Gain was impressive, be careful with the volume if you value your hearing. The short throw faders have a detent at about halfway. Outputs have dual ... Show More

great product

This is a very well made unit, and can have variety of uses. I currently use it with my HDTV so that several people can watch TV wearing their headsets without disturbing others. The sound quality is top notch and the build quality is also excellent. Please note that they make two different versions of this thing. Make sure that you're getting the Pro version, which is what sold by B&H here. Some other vendors sell a similar unit but is not the P... Show More

Superb quality for my Xbox 360

Nov 21, 2008

First off, this amp is POWERFUL. I have to watch my younger cousins to make sure they don't deafen themselves with their own headphones. Second, the quality is very sharp and clear, much better than the other options that exist for headphones for consoles. Third, I can share the amp with 3 other people, they can finally appreciate playing first person with surround sound. I have it connected directly to the output from the a/v cables of the 360, I... Solid, slick, smooth, and super sound

Jul 29, 2010

Remarkable nowadays is the solid metal construction of a pro-level audio device for under $50. Things just keep getting better when one begins plugging in cables and finds the versatility of high-quality jacks for both 1/4-inch phone plugs and mini plugs. Equally impressive is the smooth operation of the gain controls, with the mid-point detent as a handy reference point, so it's not necessary to look at the unit when adjusting gain. Most important, the output is superb--nothing added, nothing taken away, just 20db of gain without any distortion.

Over a year with NO problems

Feb 26, 2016

I use this amp with the headphone output of an audio console. It did not have enough gain to get sufficient volume to hear over the live environment. With this amp, I can easily get enough volume to hear my record mix, as well any solo from the board I need. It can drive my headphones to their distortion level, so I know I can get the max volume, when I need it, from my monitoring headphones. I plugged it in, set the level, and effectively forgot about it, which is exactly what I wanted.

Nice small headphone amp

Mar 23, 2011

Rolls makes good stuff, so I always try to buy it. This one is no different. I needed a headphone amp to split a line for some musicians so they could hear a click track in rehearsal. I picked this up and it worked really well. They could each adjust their own volume. I've had problems with other headphone amps not having stereo outputs, which is a big problem. This one is stereo, and works really well, sounds good, and has a nice clean look to it.

Rolls - a solid contender

Dec 16, 2015

I bought this as part of a small mobile recording unit I need on occasion for some podcasting production I do. As with all other Rolls products, this little headphone amp is really sturdy, and it's simple plug-and-play. It does not impart either noise or color to the sound received in the headphones. Probably my only gripe with this is the necessity of a wall-wart power source. Other than that it's perfect for many applications.

Simple and sturdy, clean sound, handy!

Aug 3, 2011

Has both RCA and 1/4 in input jacks on back, with 1/4 or mini headphone jacks on front. Unit is metal, sliders are smooth and noise free. I cant blast the speakers in my apartment, so this unit allow us all to have headphones and we can each adjust our own volume. Last night, two of us watch a movie on the iPad with great headphone sound. Happy I bought the little thing, its worth the price.

Almost perfect

Nov 4, 2015

I have used this product for almost 6 years now. The only problem this product has is that the power source wires tend to break near where the plug is. The wire is very thin and after about a year of travel on the road the wire detaches at the connect point. They need to beef up and improve the wire to electrical outlet. Other than that this is a great product

Excellent value!

Jun 30, 2009

I use this to provide 2+ headphone outputs for multiple listeners of field recording of personal history interviews and high school music performances. There is plenty of gain, and when I turn the gain to zero, it is dead quiet! It has excellent grounding. It is smaller, lighter and less expensive than its competition and I see no compromises for this design.

Nice amp for multiple outputs

Dec 22, 2017

I use this on my PC to switch between shelf speakers and headphones. The amp has clean sound and easy to use. The only nit is that it is not pretty to look at on my desk. There are wires coming out of the front and the back. For the price and easy separation of sound devices I recommend it.

Perfect

Sep 11, 2016

Just plugged it into the headphone output of my board. Voila! An instant headphone mix for 4! If you want to be more sophisticated, assign to a group or send for a more variable headphone mix. Works flawlessly. More than enough volume gain. Don't hesitate to buy.

I use this with my home studio in a box. I works great. Like other users say it would be nice to have a power switch but other than that it's perfect. Good sound, lower price than competitors' models, multiple options for in and out. What more could you ask?

Small But Mighty

May 18, 2015

I use the Rolls for up to four guests appearing live on a radio program. It works great and is well engineered. My only reservation is the A/C power supply cord is too short, requiring I purchase a separate A/C extension cord. Otherwise, highly recommended.

A great Solution for a band for silent practice

- Metal body - Included power adapter - Flexible output jacks to fit any headphones - Small size but good weight metal body - the volume sliders could be improved to be more heavy (not to move easily if someone touched them accidentally)

Problem Solver

My audio mixer only has one output. Depending on the particular set of headphones being used, the listening level may be too loud or too soft. Now with the Rolls HA43, I have 4 outputs, each one controlled by a separate slider.

I use this with a Tascam DP008 8 channel digital recorder. The phone output on that unit is weak, so I use this and its great. It solves all monitoring and mixing problems created by a weak phone-jack signal. Its great.
