I use these headphone in y studio. The overall sound quality is excellent, in my opinion, but the best part is that the bass response is right there. Really deep bass that is almost at the point between hearing and feeling, while not creating distortion. I have other headphones, including Sennheisers that cannot obtain that performance level that cost more than these headphones.

* How you use the product I use these headphones for everything except going outside because I'd look like a dork if I did. They are big, as you can see in the photo. My most recent use of these headphones was during plant enhanced meditation. The Sennheiser HD280 Pro Headphones are great for meditation because of the way they block out all other noises in the house (e.g. the heat coming up, the dogs licking themselves and walking around, the clock ticking, the computer purring). The only thing I hear is the music, beating in my head, surrounding me. This allows me to get deep into the meditation and let the thoughts in my head flow freely. Enough said about meditation, you get the point. I also use these headphones for listening to lectures and music while I do things around the house. Once again, I love them because I can't hear anything but the sounds coming from my iPod shuffle or Rio portable music player. For example, I'll listen to a lecture by Terrence McKenna while I was the dishes. If your interested in who this is, try to download The Original Tree of Knowledge. Anyhow, I can barely hear the dishes while these headphones are on. The HD280 Pros separate the lecture I'm listening to and the dishes I'm washing. In this way, I'm able to concentrate on the lecture while I mindlessly wash the dishes. They are great for enjoying the sounds coming out of them, period. * Things that are great about them I think I summed this up in the last part. * Things that aren't so great about them The highs are good, but overall they could use more clarity and definition. It's hard to make this criticism because they are the best headphones I have personally heard. Maybe they are great comparatively. I will say this: compared to the Grado SR80 headphones, these HD280 Pros have comparable highs, Grado only slightly coming out ahead. However, the Grados sound tinny and do not have the 'hug' like feeling that the HD280 Pros have. The bottom line is that I highly suggest these headphones to someone who wants Comfort, Clarity & Peace. Enjoy. ... More

HD280's are extremely popular and for good reason. They provide you with strong noise cancellation, you won't realize how good until you take them off. They will also give you an acuarte representation of what you are monitoring, and mixing. They are also great to listen to your favorite music. Every time I listen to The Wall I hear something different. With these the record takes on a whole new life. I would highly recommend these for multiple application use, or simply enjoying your favorite records. I've been using these for about a year and they are great! I have used Zennheiser since the 414's so you could say I like Zennheiser, but my wife got me another brand. After the appropriate amount of time using my gift I switched to the Pro 280's the world came alive. I could hear everything I was missing with the other brand. If you like to hear what your mixing, not hear everything around you and improve your work I can attest these are worth every penny.

These headphones sound amazing, especially in the mid and high frequency range. I don't know of any headphone under $100 that provides better reference sound. Lots or professionals use this headphone to mix recordings and DJ for events. For consumer use, they really bring out detail that goes unnoticed and unheard on regular (translation: affordable) speakers or headphones. It's delightful, for example, to hear all the little intricacies of Johnny Greenwood's guitarwork and distortion on Radiohead's Amnesiac. The bass isn't overpowering, so if you're looking for a pair of headphones that really accentuate the bass, you should keep looking. I read in another review that you can feel the bass before you hear it. I didn't know what that meant exactly until I tried these out. You can hear all the bass in the source, but it won't overpower and drown out the mids or highs. Other reviews mentioned problems with the construction being flimsy. The construction seems very sturdy in my regular use. Other reviews mentioned that straight out of the box, these headphones don't sound great, that you need to burn them in. I burned them in by playing my iTunes library for about 36 hours on medium volume and they sounded awesome. The cord is coiled in the middle and can stretch about 10 feet. You'll want to make sure that nothing rubs against the outside of the earcups or against the cord, if it's pulled taut to the headphones, because it causes loud distracting noise in the earcups. Overall, a great performing headphone for the money, highly recommended if none of the above bothers you. ... More

I'm a DJ and producer who went from a nice pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones to these, and I must say, for how similar the prices are, I would choose this product over those any day. They are more comfortable, they isolate sound better, the low end has some nice weight to it in comparison (though I still manually boosted the 50-150hz range a bit, since it seemed to be lacking just a smidge), and the high end is as stellar as can be expected from a Sennheiser product. These are by far the best headphones I have ever owned, and my only minor complaints are the 50-150hz range being a bit quiet and the cable not being too flexible (although it IS a brand new pair, so that may change). Excellent product. 9.75/10 ... More

I bought these to replace a pair of Sony MDR-7506s that failed on one side after a couple of years of light use. My primary need is monitoring from ENG cameras and field mixers during live recording. Flat, uncolored response, good isolation, high sensitivity and physical comfort are the main requirements for identifying problems while recording. The Sonys are an industry standard for this application, but I found the sound harsh and the build quality a bit too fragile for my taste. I had owned the previous - and much larger and clumsier - Sennheiser HD280s in the past, but lent them to a student once and never got them back. I liked the sound quality, though, and thought it would be worth trying this redesigned model. The HD280 Pros have an honest, smooth sound, although just a little lacking at the high end, which may be mostly a function of my aging ears. I don't have an exceptionally large head and therefore find them to be very comfortable for extended wear - possibly the best I've tried. Isolation is better than the Sonys also. The design seems sturdy, although it will take time to know how long they last. I especially appreciate that there are no exposed wires between the earcups and headband. The locking 1/4 plug adapter is a nice touch. There is nothing especially flashy about these headphones, but they are a dependable quality professional tool at a reasonable price. ... More

The Sennheiser HD280 is ideal for monitoring and editing your audio and video recordings and live performances. They have good enough outside noise rejection to be usable in live situations and are extremely critical of the input. Don't confuse these with nice polite hi-fi headphones for enjoyment - they are not. They will give you the unvarnished truth about your audio whether you like it or not. However ... (and this is big one) ... once your audio sounds good on these cans it will sound awesome everywhere else! I highly recommend getting this kit if only for the ear pads. They are a breeze to fit and are way more comfortable (and less sweaty) for extended monitoring than the PU ones that come as standard. The case is a nice add on and has space for the coiled cable (which I could do without to be honest). I like that you can flip an ear piece over so that someone else can listen beside you and also that they fold up to take up (slightly) less space. I initially thought that the headband was a little too tight but after a 10 hour editing session today I've changed my mind and decided that it's actually OK. ... More

Yes, I pulled this set from under water, where it had been for at least eight hours after the recent flood we experienced here in Houston. Dried the set out and they work just like new! Awesome sound by the way, but you don't need to drench them in water to get that. Just keep 'em dry.

I gave this product a 5 star not because I think they are the best on the market but because they have met my expectations and served me well on a tight budget. I use these headphones both for recording audio for video and also for editing when my office gets too noisy for me to use studio monitors. For such a low price point I have been very impressed. Pros: 1 - Low end comes through quite nicely, and I am able to pick up sounds that cheap ear buds and over ears just can't. 2 - noise reduction is fantastic. has done well for me in a noisy office to get editing done, and is even more helpful when recording audio in the field. So far most recording I have done has been indoors and I have been able to isolate myself from what is happening on set. 3- very comfortable. I can have these over my ears for hours while I edit or record audio and have yet to feel uncomfortable. The cushion for the top of the head is very nice also. Cons: I don't have much experience with high end headphones so I am not sure if there are features out there that I am missing, but so far I don't have any complaints. These headphones have been a great purchase, and for an on the go shooter/editor who also handles Audio, it's nice to have a set of headphones to use on set and at the office. ... More

The price was very appealing. Based on their physical size I also bought an external power source for my tiny cheap MP3 player, thinking that the internal battery would not last long while driving these headphones. The noise rejection was great, and at the volume level I was using, the MP3 player battery never needed recharging. March 2015-- away from home (no MP3 or headphones) and had to make an unexpected trip. Bought a 2nd set, the originals can be my wife's since she likes them too. I'm powering these headphones through my Focusrite Saffire white face FireWire audio interface and they work pretty darn well. Good all-rounders that don't color the sound too much.Pros - cheap, clear, rugged, replaceable cushioning/wire, left cup only wired, big ear padding, fold up several ways for easy storage. Even when played loud and repeatedly, very little ear fatigue.Cons - grab my head a bit tight but no pain on ears, just able to hear my pulse. Need to be given lots of juice to work properly, so probably not the greatest for iPods.I also have a pair of HD 201s and the comparison is remarkable. The 280s are much clearer and can be driven harder with zero distortion. Also, in terms of construction, the 280s are beyond compare. Solid chord, solid headset. My round town headphones are a $30 pair of in-ear Sonys. Again, no comparison. The Sonys are super bassy and quite muddy in the mids. However, they block out a fair bit of outside sound and are easy to stow, so they've got the portability angle. I don't think I'll be lugging my 280s around town. I used these headphones for 3 years for production sound mixing and some studio recording. The construction is great, the ear pads are replaceable, decent mid-range which is good for capturing dialogue when mixing on location, great noise isolation as well, they are also somewhat comfortable. Comparing them to high-end mixing cans such as my AKG 702's they don't have nearly the low's and highs nor the mid range imaging which give the AKG's a much more live and natural feel. Comfort wise they became uncomfortable after about 3 hours and I'd have to take a break compared to the AKG's which I could wear all day long like a hat. The worst part is that the cable is not user replaceable and dis-assembling and re-wiring them was not an easy task even for someone with a technical background so I had to toss them out and buy a new pair. That was an extreme situation because these headphones saw a lot of action out in the field, looking forward if I come out of retirement from production mixing I would look at the Ultrasone cans. Last note, if you are using these Sennheisers or any other closed-back cans in studio for mixing (recording OK) you are using the wrong headphones. ... More
