I purchased this not knowing for sure what I would get out of it. My thoughts were that at the very least I would get the ultimate interface. I'm happy to say that I was correct about that. As this unit is fairly new to me and I have only had it for two days I have not checked out the mixed down section yet. I'm expecting that it is as tight and good as the rest of the consul is. As an older guy at the age of 55 I can say I feel right at home with this board. I do believe that the younger musicians might get something out of this as well as it is built well and probably on its way to being a legend just after it was born. I know that's a heck of a boast but there it is. Good luck, Patrick ... More

I purchased a brand new Tascam 24 mixer about 10 months ago on November 25th of 2022. I read extensive reviews of this board before buying and felt based on my experience using tascam mixers, boards, etc on the past, I couldn't go wrong. I also paid extra to get a "New board" as opposed to a used one, as so many online users warn about buying complex electronics like mixers that are used since there are so many little things to test that you could miss. The box arrived in great shape with no visible damage, and the sealed mixer inside's box seemed also perfect. I placed the box in my fully finished studio, where it sat along with other equipment I intended for my studio for roughly the last 9 1/2 Months. I needed to buy other stuff ( monitors, instruments, computer etc.) I never thought to open this perfect box just to see if the mixer actually worked, because I made the mistake of relying on decades of experience with tascam products. I opened it and plugged it up two days ago, on September 29th, 2023. As soon as the screen came up right after the Tascam logo it flashes "Codec error 30, power unit off" and then wouldn't do anything. I was confused and astonished. My brother and I looked up this codec and issue online and found no one with the same experience. Lots of people cited using the right sd card, but the unit didn't come with one, and even if it did, it made no sense that a mixer designed for use with a computer would need an sd card to operate, much less give a codec error for not using one. Contacted Tascam support today (Monday oct 2nd) and was informed the following: 1. The technician could find no references for "codec 30" and cited that it "may" be a motherboard issue. 2. The board has a 1 year warranty but only on parts, not labor, and tascam discontinued allowing customers to ship bad equipment directly to them for repair or replacement, meaning I have to swallow the cost for labor, and the warranty would Only cover the parts ( he then gave me some local authorized repair center phone numbers) 3. The tech said he was sorry, but he too has to learn the lesson do testing gear after you buy it and not allowing it to "sit around" in case there is a problem. TaSCAM's internal policy changes and their motivation post-pandemic have nothing to do with selling and standing by solid products as a company. I am a consumer who bought a brand new item, never opened or used it, and it was manufactured with a defect that made it useless. It sustained no damage in shipping, had not been touched, and sat for almost 10 months in my fully finished studio on a finished shelf, in an area of my house that is temperature controlled and that I work in every day. There were no hazards of any kind this board was exposed to that would explain or influence it's defectiveness right out of the box, and as a company TASCAM should have the integrity to replace it or AT LEAST repair it at no cost...but they don't and they won't. This is a matter of business principles and manufacturing competence, apparently neither of which Tascam has. Understand that Tascam assumes we the consumers are "Lying" or trying to scam them somehow, instead of admitting the problem with this piece of equipment and transaction. Horrible Horrible way to treat customers. ... More

To start, if you've got ANY experience working with mixers and recording equipment, you'll be on your feet within 5-10 minutes. You want a live mixer that has enough inputs for your full band? This is the mixer you've been looking for. You want to RECORD that gig and have full control of the mixdown later? This is the mixer you've been looking for. You want to record your whole band at once at home then multitrack vocals later? This is the mixer you've been looking for. You want to start with just an acoustic guitar and build up to a full 22 tracks, one track at a time? This is the mixer you've been looking for. You want all that, plus a monitor and control room feed that are both separate from the main mix? This is the mixer you've been looking for. You need phantom power on every mic input? This is the mixer you've been looking for. You need it to also double as a DAW because you want to do all the work in your favorite software? This is the mixer you've been looking for. My ONLY complaint is that there's not an on-board metronome, so putting down a click track will eat up a channel...but with 21 others to spare, most of you will be fine. Plug it in to a power amp (or two) or some powered speakers and have a good time. Then play it back for your friends later. Great mixer/recording solution. I like it so much I almost want to buy a spare! ... More

First of all, great service by B&H as this unit arrived in one day, and they had great pre-sale support when I had questions about recording times and other features. I am using this mixer/recorder with my live band, and I love this thing! It is super easy to work, and it sounds great (very warm sounding and "punchy"). The main reason that I got this unit was for the built-in MULTI-TRACK recorder. Lots of mixers have a two track recorder, but this is the only one that I know of that allows you to record each individual channel. You can quickly re-mix and re-balance the recording to create a great sounding live mix. I have to say that it is the first time in my 15-year career as a live performer that I have actually gotten a "board tape" that sounds good! Keep in mind that you can do this WITHOUT a computer!! If you want to use a computer (or if you want to take tracks off of Pro Tools or something) and then re-mix them through the board, you can do that, but I have been able to make great sounding live recordings without dragging my laptop to the gig (a very good thing in my opinion). I also really like the on-board one knob compressor (although it can sound a bit "squashed" if you push it too hard). The built-in effects sound great (would like more choices, but what they do have is very useable). All in all, I'm very happy with the sound quality and especially the ease of use. ... More

Finally! I'm new to recording, and knew next to nothing. It started with me asking what's the easiest way to record drum tracks. I was sold a Focusrite Scarlett, but it could only accommodate 4 mics. I had major back surgery coming up, and wanted to be motivated to learn to record. When I finally opened it, it was an open box. No power cord, or instructions. They let me trade it for the Focus 18, but I lost my $ for buying the protection. After reading about it, I'd need a PC, DAW etc. So I went again, and they sold me a Tadcam 24DP. I was told I could use it to record, an interface, and would be able to run it through DAW. NOPE!! After being told I waited too long (I used it 15 min), corporate stepped in, and allowed me to trade it in for the Model 24. This is what I needed all along. I have used Tascam products throughout my 15-18 years of playing music... from Tascam portastudio 8-track tape... to the Portastudio DSP-01FX... and this Tascam 24 holds true to the Tascam user friendly Portastudio interface as well as their analog setup and amazing sounding preamps. The way this machine can work for live performances, USB/DAW interface, or standard portastudio multi-track recorder (that transfers files seamlessly into my computer/DAW and vice versa), it truly is a super versatile addition to any studio or even PA setup. If you get one, make sure to check Tascams website and download any new Firmware and software revisions... The Model 24 takes me back to the days of analog recording where you simply grab a knob and use your ears. Previously, I was tracking 16 channels with 2 presonus firestudio interfaces, and spending countless hours of editing and mixing, while I would prefer to play my instrument. This Tascam works well for full live band rehearsal or multitracking with a faster workflow than pure DAW. No computer is really needed. Once levels are set, hit record for all tracks and focus on performance. The board mix always records to tracks 23 and 24, so you can quickly export to the PC and convert to mp3 to share with the band members. The preamps are clean and have a warmer sound than my Presonus. The noise floor is amazingly low. Routing is limited, but the sound quality makes up for the lack of digital novelties. It works as a 22 channel interface to your DAW, and also simultaneously records all tracks to sdcard, while the mixer handles the rest. I personally enjoy recording while monitoring with zero latency hardware effects and having a sense of the song's outcome. I use the 2 inserts half inserted as sends for kick and snare to a 2 channel rack compressor then line in to record two extra tracks so I still capture the two original tracks untouched for post or parallel compression. Aux A and B loop through other racks and FX and steal a stereo input for return. If you are going for a simple, less manipulated sound with an old school feel, this is highly recommended. Be sure to check the Tascam website for supported sdcards to purchase separately. 256GB sdcards are about $40 each. If you need digital driven complex features, separate headphone mixes, MIDI, scenes, or a full featured live console, look elsewhere. ... More

This is probably the cheapest multitrack recorder youll find and its very flexible. I just got it set up to record directly on my daw with every channel as a track. It's brilliant. It can also function as a great live board and can record directly to an sd card for later mock up. Some people complain that the master is two of the 24 tracks, but I think it's very handy. If you're recording a live gig, everything you do will be on the master left and right tracks, but every independent channel is recorded pre-fader for later mixing. It works great for room recording and it even has built in Bluetooth receiver that has almost no latency. There's 2 stereo TRS channels and 18 Mono TRS channels on the 20 XLR inputs. 1 RCA aux is built into the Bluetooth channel. Stereo out monitor room and control room only one headphone out so you might want a headphone Amp to be fully equipped for live monitoring.
