Rift S - a small step for man ....

Aug 30, 2019

I bought the Rift S on the promise the graphics were slightly better, and the system was more portable than the Vive. It didn’t disappoint. The graphics are on a par and occasionally noticeably better, the controllers are light and great to use, and the tracking is fine (just be weary of strong lights and large reflective surfaces). Note the Rift S requires a powerful computer to run it. The interactive video set-up on my main machine went like clockwork. Overall I am very pleased.

A nightmare to set up

Jan 10, 2020

I bought this to replace my CV1 model after hearing about the modifications they made. Unfortunately it's been a nightmare to set it up and it all centres around the USB connection. Despite having lots of 3.0 USB ports on my machine it fails to recognise ANY of them as being compatible. The problem is the headset requires a lot of power. I bought an expansion card it doesn't recognise despite it being powered independently of the motherboard. Check your USB ports before buying this.

Great Headset, doesn't feel as smooth as my vive

Jan 23, 2020

I currently have a HTC Vive, and my review is going to compare this headset to that. This headset has less glare (godrays) and improved screen door reduction over the vive.but tracking is slightly worse, but the controllers are better than the Vive's. the 80hz screen refresh is slightly slower and feels sluggish in some games. however the biggest sell for me and this headset is inside out tracking and i dont need external sensors, so i travel with this and use in hotels etc...

Amazing

Sep 24, 2019

I’ve wanted a VR headset for a while now and I’ve been looking at different options for years now. Eventually I decided to go with this one because it is easily the simplest one to set up with a PC. There is only one wire and also no external sensors. The only thing that is slightly bad about it is that you need a pretty powerful PC in order to play the games. If you don’t have a powerful PC I’d recommend having a look at the Oculus Quest as it doesn’t require a PC

Amazed VR first timer

Jun 7, 2019

First foray into VR and this has to be the greatest home entertainment ever created. I bought the Rift S for sim racing (Assetto Corsa, Project Cars 2) and the experience is insane, closest thing to reality without actually getting into a real car, so immersive. Then I discovered everything it can do from watching a movie in a virtual cinema, exploring the globe in Google Earth VR, even guided meditation! Hand controllers are very ergonomically designed. Ready Player One is now!

Check compatibility before buying

Aug 23, 2019

I bought this to replace my HTC Vice. Unfortunately there is a global issue with the Rift-S and MSI laptops and after many hours going back and forth with Oculus... they don't know how to fix it. With that being said they are working with Nvidia to find a solution. I plugged this into my desktop PC and it does work perfectly. The resolution is noticably better and the setup process is quick and simple. The headset is lightweight and the sounds quality is surprisingly good.

Great Technology

Jan 5, 2020

I was hesitant about VR as I can suffer balance and dizziness issues due to chronic migraine. I ran the Oculus Experience First Contact and was completely blown away. The immersion of being in that world is something words can't explain. It felt a little odd moving around but I seemed to get used to it very quickly, thankfully. Audio is absolutely fine for what it is. No real heat issue, no misting up and easy to adjust. Great for sim racing. I love it and use it most days.

The future of gaming!

Oct 4, 2019

So having the first rift and not using it very much I upgraded to the rift s as friends had gotten it and I wanted more freedom with the inside out tracking. I can’t recommend this enough! Better optics, better tracking, better headband, everything is better! Problems I had with the first rust is I could wear for more than half hour due to wearing glasses and it phasing in my face, don’t have this problem What so ever with the rift s! This IS the future of gaming!

The Oculus Rift S So much fun and easy to set up.

Jan 12, 2020

Before I mention about the product, the delivery service was amazing. I had same day delivery and was given a slot of 7pm-10pm. Bang on 7 PM a knock the door with my purchase. The oculus rift S is definitely worth purchasing if you're interested in delving into the VR realm! Very good quality, plenty of applications to choose use and buy in their stores works very well with the computer and most applications you can see on a monitor so others can watch what you're up to!

VR done simply

Aug 27, 2019

The Oculus Rift S is how VR should be, Fun and inexpensive. The newly designed headset is extremely comfortable and is a quick and easy setup out of the box. The viewing experience is almost perfect any noticeable pixels disappear once you start getting immersed into the realms of Virtual Reality. The only niggle I have with the device is the audio is a little quiet and due to the open nature of the audio delivery system (Down facing speakers) room noise cannot be ignored.

Great mid-range pc vr headset

Nov 15, 2019

VR technology has really come down in price over the past few years and the oculus rift s is a great value, mid range option. I wear glasses, and picked this one specifically as it has a button you press that pushes the lenses away from your specs. Its light and comfortable, and sound is built in too, so no extra headphones needed. My only gripe is the lack of free content and the needed pc specs to run the best games. Make sure you have at least core i5 and gtx 1060ti.

Stunning VR Headset with 6DoF

Oct 24, 2019

Let's begin with improvements from the older version (Rift), improved sensors, less cable ports, better video quality, very comfortable wearing for longer periods, software improvements and improved controllers. Downside would be that it requires Displayport for desktop or mini displayport connection for laptops to work, sound is not very impressive plus the design of the headset won't let you easily put your favourite over the ear headphones on top of the headset.

Nice Entry Level VR Headset

Feb 4, 2020

This is my first very VR headset and I am very happy with it, and I am very satisfied with it. The pricing is and build quality is great, However, I have noticed the plastic or the finishing on the controllers and headset does scratch off easily. The halo band is comfortable and easy to put on, but I wish the face foam was removable as some games require moving and your face can get a little sweaty. It works well on my computer and the oculus games are very very fun.

The easiest way to get into PC VR

Dec 30, 2019

If you have a half decent gaming PC and want to get into VR, this is easiest was to get into it. The inside out tracking means you won't need to have a bunch of sensors and light houses around the room or have a bunch or cables everywhere. Just plug the headset directly into the PC with one USB port and one DisplayPort and you're away. Loses a star for not having built in headphones like the original Rift but there is a headphone jack on the side for your own.

My thirteen year old son loves this!

Jan 16, 2020

My son bought this using money he'd saved and money we'd given him for Christmas. To say that he's very pleased with the Oculus Rift S would be an understatement! It's built very well indeed using hard plastics so has been able to withstand the odd accidental drop on his bedroom floor. Games look amazing and feel ultra realistic too. Watching films on the Oculus makes it feel like your in the cinema too! It really has been one of the best purchases he/we have made.

Everything I dreamed VR would be has come true

Jul 26, 2019

The Occulus rift S is truly fantastic! I've used a similar system before but this has no motion sickness and within half an hr of setup I was playing the most immersive games I have ever experienced, even the free demos through the Occulus store are amazing. Some experience with PCs recommended but not a must as the instructions are very clear. Would recommend to anyone with a decent PC that meets the minimum specifications. Rift S. Very good VR but some driver problems

Feb 27, 2020

Roomscale VR without sensors means setup is just plugging it in. Double tap the oculus button on right controller and see the real world, useful for when the cat meows near you. The headphones, which produce good directional sound, don't cover your ears so can still hear. A full, deep update of all device drivers (usb, motherboard etc) was needed to prevent disconnection issues. But I think it's stable now. Maybe don't get if you aren't a techy.

It's great fun for all the family Highly recommended Run perfect on my computer - INTEL 8700K 16GB 3200MHZ ZOTAC 1080TI AMP EXTREME WINDOWS 10 Will only work with Windows 10 due to oculus believing the majority of the world are using windows 10 ...

A nice mid range option at the end of gen 1 VR

Jan 6, 2020

This was a upgrade to a older Vive I got back in late 2016. First impressions are good, headset and touch controllers is well built and feels nice. The halo head strap is decent but not perfect. The main let down of this headset is the absolute rubbish inbuilt speakers. Put ear buds on or headphones for a much better experience. The Rift S uses inside out tracking and it works surprisingly well but isn’t perfect like lighthouse tracking.

Superb VR

Jul 4, 2019

I’m using this on an AMD Ryzen 7 1060 6GB pc and everything runs fine. Haven’t messed to much with the default settings but everything looks amazing in VR. This is so much better than PSVR (which is what I also have) the tracking for one is a million times better with 5 built in cameras on the headset itself. Setup was really easy as well, and there are loads of free demos to try if you have Steam account. All in all 9/10 brilliant fun.

Rift-S worth it ?

Sep 26, 2019

VR is great no doubt about that. However, as the owner of HTC Vive and PSVR this headset is pretty cheap and feels budget/over priced. The display is amazing and clear if you have the hardware to drive it, the cheap inbuilt audio is ok if you dont have headphones. I prefer the Vive controller weight/feel over the Rift-s, but I like the sticks and button position on the S. Overall the Rift-S feels like a budget PSVR but with a great screen.

Subtle but worthy improvement on the CV1

Jun 21, 2019

Pros: Way better resolution close up, crisper text (for flight sims instrumentation much clearer) Improved design in terms of comfort on the head Cons: Audio is now worse than the original as they have dispensed with the headphones and it’s now very tinny internal speakers above the ear; they need to fix this Lots of problems installing; pc wouldn’t recognise the headset intermittently, lots of black screen at random points.

Works well ONCE you have it working!

Jan 12, 2020

This device is very picky, there are plenty of problems people have had with USB port compatibility. This did not work with my first computer but luckily on my second computer I did not have this issue. The Oculus software is awful and is a pain to get installed, every time it fails it had to re-download 7GB, and it failed to install about 5-7 times (disable windows firewall!) Once working its pretty good for the price I would say!
