great product
Great product, solid material. The thrre-way range of heads allows you to make all kind of photos. It's a little heavy, but works really well.

A very nice tripod head
I needed a heavy duty and versatile pan/tilt tripod head to handle a fairly heavy vintage medium format camera and I found that in the Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head. The head moves very smoothly and effortlessly in all three axis and the control handles go from free to full lock with a minimum amount of rotation. While the specs mention two spirit levels, the head in fact has a total of three. There are two longitudinal tube type spirit le... Show More

Manfrotto 808RC4
Tripod: Giottos GIYTL8383 Head: Manfrotto 808RC4 I purchased the set to use together so I might as well write about them together. The generic problem is that when companies develop specialized items, such as Quick Release plates, nothing else fits. Everything, then, takes a lot more time to assemble than the old time -20 tripod screw. I have several other 808RC4 heads, and they work reliably. Big, fat, soft handles on the clamps so just a quick ... Show More

Too Much
As long as you're not working with medium format or enormous lenses, this thing is way overkill. It's overly beefy and heavy for location work, and tightening it down is quite an effort that gives blisters mighty quick. I'll be returning this for something lighter duty.

Handles the Weight well
Was looking at Fluid heads till this caught my eye, liked that the sticks were shorter than fluid heads. Has good spring to it and handles heavy camera no problems, no slips. Very smooth as well. Very happy with this head.

We all need great head
Now I know that when you're out there looking for head you may want to try something...special, something a little different, like maybe a pistol grip (ooh you'll pay extra for that). But if you ask me I'll tell you that the best head is very stable, easy to use and predictable. Weather you are in the privacy of your own home, out in the field or surrounded by thousands in a public setting, you will look down with pride as your fantastic head pays off for another money shot.

Not Great for Small Hands
After reading so many amazing reviews, I bought this head for food and landscapes. After shooting with it on a 3 day magazine shoot (all food) I found that it's not very fluid when switching from portrait to landscape and very difficult to tighten. If you have small hands and/or do not have a strong grip then I woud suggest researching other tripods heads. I started getting blisters (also achey fingers and wrists) after day one and noticed the tr... Show More

Solid but cumbersome
I was looking for a tripod head that would work well with my heavy DSLR (battery pack and 100-400mm lens) for stills and video. I found the 3 handle adjustments to be too cumbersome to manage. I traded it in for a Gitzo GH2720QR, which is lighter and has a 1 handle adjustment. I have not received it to try yet so am keeping my fingers crossed. It did not have any reviews when i purchased it.

Much more solid than I expected for thee
Bought to use with Nikon D300s using an 80-400mm lens and 2x tele extender. Steady as a rock, even in the Rocky Mountain winds. Base plate takes some getting used to for attachment, but not a deal breaker.

good overall pano head
I was looking for a new head that would do the job well, but small enough also..this one is a winner. And, you cant beat the price. I was shocked that it didnt cost more..

Best model in the game.
Forget ball heads. This is the head you want on your tripod. Manfrotto's handle system is by far the best, most accurate, and easy to use system I've ever used. Wouldn't trade this for anything.

The Perfect Tilt/Pan Tripod Head!
I bought this head to go on my new Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod legs. The head is a little heavy, but I guess that's the trade-off for a head that will firmly support a heavier camera and lens. I looked at the simple ball heads that others recommended, but I have always had a tilt/pan head and find them to be very convenient and adaptable to any situation. This head is very intuitive in that you have three levers to control the different motions; ti... Show More

808RC4 Pan/Tilt Head with RC4 plate
This is new, so rating based on first impressions only. This head sits in between my old 3030 and the 3039/229, but its weight to capacity ratio is an improvement (3 lb. head sipports 17.5 lb. camera). Construction seems solid (typical Manfrotto), movements are smooth, and now sprung. Should work fine for MF, light LF and video. Looking at several pan/tilt heads the 808RC4 hit the sweet spot of weight, capacity and price. For the times I want the... Show More

Solid Construction, Ease, and Control
I use this head for both DSLR stills and video work, mostly in the realm of nature and wildlife documentary projects. It holds a good amount of weight and is sturdy enough to hold my heaviest lens and camera combo. The construction is solid and it is easy to use. Great for panning up and down or side to side. It's a nice hybrid, made for both video and photo. Only downside is that it is not great for panning diagonally, but otherwise a great purchase at a fair price. I actually prefer this pan-head to any ballhead I've ever used. The quick release is a very nice feature.

Survivor!
Outdoors, indoor portaiture. I have taken my first one everywhere from swamps, ocean islands, mountains and deserts for the last 4 years. I have beaten it up dropping it biking on rugged trails, hiking along rocky cliffs banging into things, throwing it into airport luggage, and having it bathed in fresh and salf water. It finally died when I tried to fix the caroded pin that locks open the quick release mechanism. If there is a fault, I can't re... Show More

A head worth it's weight in gold
The Manfrotto 808RC4 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head is a solid performer. I'd definitely recommend this head as it represents great value for money and is easy to use, strong and durable. Coupled with the Manfrotto 055XPROB, it really works wonders!!

Smooth and sturdy
Smooth operation, sturdy construction and high quality. Great 3way head for the price. Grips are soft and ergonomic, easy to differentiate by size, this is not an ultralight...but it's what I wanted - gives me confidence that my equipment will be secure.

Good Strong Unit
I take mostly long exposure waterfall and stream photos. This has proven to be a very solid head for my D7000 and 18-200 Nikkor lens. I take long time exposures. This is solid as a rock. The latch came apart but luckily it happened at home and I did not loose any of the little pieces. I put it back together and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Also, B&H Photo sent it to me on time and without problems.

Great beginner head!
This is my first tripod head. I love it. It's got levels and indicators that help me line up my camera and tripod just how I want. It's very durable and I feel comfortable sitting a big lens and camera on it any day.
