I find this pickup to work incredibly well on a variety of instruments including upright bass, mandolin (octave and regular size), cello and guitar. I'm sure there are more, yet this is what I've used them on so far. Because the unit is so easily mounted and dismounted (simply press it in place and pull it off when done), you can put it anywhere on the instrument to find it's sweet spot. This creates a lot more possibilities than a fixed bridge or internally mounted pickup and since it's not a permanent installation will give you maximum pure acoustic sound when it's dismounted. The AKG 411 series sound much more natural than other pickups I've used or heard others use. I chose the 411-PP (Phantom Power) model because I run it straight into a phantom powered mixer. This mixer feeds a Bose L1 PAS system and sounds amazing. When I use the 411-PP with an amp, I use a little 2 channel phantom powered mixer that outputs into the amp's 1/4 inch input. I've not experienced feedback issues with either of these configurations. The AKG 411-L model requires an expensive XLR adapter cable to use it with a phantom powered mixer. It does however offer a battery pack option which works better for a wireless setup. Some folks are leery of using the adhesive to connect the 411 element to the instrument, yet I've found it to be harmless and very good at retaining a solid grip after many uses. My only caution is to be careful not to remove the element by prying one end up, in that the ridge can inflict a small dent in the wood. If it's pulled off evenly, no issues. ... More

Hi! I feel fully satisfied with my recently purchased AKG C411 PP condenser pick up. I bought it after my Schertler DYN-E transducer microphone went bad after a sound check in a concert. Schertler was much more expensive than this AKG mic. I was really anxious to know if this new mic works for me. I fixed the new AKG in the position where I used to use my earlier Schertler mic. It was about one inch below the bridge on the side of main string of my sitar. I was amazed with the sound quality! I found it just right! The frequency responses of both low and high were just right for my ears. It gave very clean sound, I was totally satisfied. I just used it once till now with a sound system that was not very expensive one.. I have another concert in a very prestigious auditorium on the 14 September. I shall see if this works in a high end sound system as good it was during the earlier concert.I believe it will. I strongly recommend this microphone for amplifying plucked string instruments including the sitar. Best, Sanjoy Bandopadhyay ... More

We have been trying various solutions to amplify a Golden-Era Martin guitar with minimal feedback. The soundhole mounted lavalier (cardioid) solutions were way too boomy and susceptible to feedback . Relocating the lavaliers near the 14th fret reduced the bass effect, but also reduced the signal level and increased feedback potential. We realized much better sound reproduction on the Martin with this C411 which required very little post EQ. And feedback was a non-issue. On violin, the results were not quite as impressive. The included mounting putty is amazing stuff! I can't see where more can be ordered, so use it judiciously and don't lose it. ... More

Everything PierreGee said, terrific little pickup. I got the PP (phantom power) version too. Simple, simple. Just the pickup element, wire and plug. Takes 15 seconds to set up on a gig and take off after. I'm still using the same piece of putty after 40 gigs. Sound wise it is as close to the sound of a microphone as I have found yet, but with a much higher feedback threshold and less gear needed. I play gypsy jazz on a Selmer style acoustic steel string guitar.

I use this mic while I live paint with improv musicians and vocalists. I attatch it to the spine of my canvas and hook it into a Behringer MIC100 ULTRAGAIN PRO - Single Channel Tube Mic Pre. Works perfect for what I need it to do. This is obviously not a common use and I cannot compare or rate the functionality of the mic on an instrument, but I believe it to be a great contact mic with crisp, clean pick up. It's well built and an overall great product for the price.

The C411pp produces a reasonably accurate reproduction of the sound of my O-hole mandolin and classical guitar. The signal is strong (I set the guitar below unity), giving me plenty of headroom on my mixer. The pickup goes on easily and comes off easily. I wish the putty was a little less sticky; you have to be careful to get if all off the surface of the instrument.

it's great

It's great for me. Is the only option in market for me too... but it works perfect. The only thing, to be better, the cable could be thicker, to get a longer life. But the sound is very good, and easy to use.
