Headphones are difficult to select unless, I suppose, you are able to spend $400-$500 and up; if so, you have better reason to expect fit and performance that will actually delight you. These headphones arrived today. At first sight, I judged the ear cups to be too small for me. My ear are _not_ huge. However, the cushions are exceedingly soft and smooth, so I am hoping for negligible pain. (I am referring to the kind of pressure pain one can have, as an example, after accidentally falling asleep with an ear flattened by the head resting on a firm surface.) These are called over-the-ear, but that terminology -- without any measurements in inches or centimeters -- is not ideal. The manufacturer's photos show an ear cushion design that differs from the one I'm looking at here. My comments are based on my years-long use of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (wired), which sound similar, but the ear cups on them are larger and rounder. Seems to be a trend to make so-called over-the-ear headphone cups smaller. I also use Sennheiser 450 BT headphones, which are truly and beyond all discussion on-the-ear (the ear cushions never touch my face), despite the manufacturer's use of the terminology over-ear. I suppose I'll eventually accommodate my habits to these new headphones and will enjoy the absence of cord noise. I'm not a wizard at Bluetooth connections, but my iPhone XR recognized and paired instantly. Last but not least, I can confirm that these headphones sound wonderful. As a test, I played the colorful and dynamic first movement of Mahler's Song of the Earth via a high-quality copy I had made from my CD and uploaded to my iPhone. As expected, the reproduction is normal, or realistic, and not enhanced to a distracting extent. Thus, if the original media is well produced, this type of headphones will deliver all of it. The frequency range is very wide for Bluetooth headphones and I'll have to try some Bach organ music to experience the low range. ... More

I purchased these as an everyday pair of headphones to wear for casual listening or as a backup for tracking/recording, in situations where my favorite open-back headphones prove to be too bulky or non-isolating to work well. Honestly I'm quite impressed with the overall sound quality. The spectrum is rendered rather truthfully as promised, although with relatively forward mids at least compared to my monitors and usual open-backed cans of choice. Way less low/low-mid mud compared to the usual closed-back suspects, and the closed back character is subdued, although still present. The usual boosted AKG highs found in all of their high-end open backs aren't really present, but they're still perfectly clear up there. I find this overall character actually makes them quite useful for critical listening, especially in noisy locations. Combined with very low drive necessary and relatively comfortable ergonomics, these work great for the often-travelling engineer or a hobbyist musician looking for a step-up closed-back option over the conventional M50x's. Despite their consumery looks, they actually stand up to a lot of affordable pro headphone options. Noise isolation is alright, though I wouldn't consider it exceptional. They seem pretty okay for tracking with regards to bleed, though, and don't get in the way as much as many other headphones, being quite flexible. The fit and adjustment is quite good as well, much better than many of AKG's older cans. The folding properties make these excellent for travelling, but usually requires you to undo your length adjustments to fold down right. Build quality is alright, but given the amount of plastic I don't anticipate a spectacularly long lifespan. If you have a larger budget available, consider the Neumann NDH-20's, which, having tried out at the B&H store, came off as among the most non-closed back sounding closed backs I've ever heard. ... I bought these to replace a pair of Sennheiser HD280 pros. The 2 are the only monitor type headphones I have used, so I will be doing a fair amount of comparisons. I use them as monitor/reference headphones for my home recordings. I can definitely hear a wider spectrum through these AKG's compared to the Sennheisers. That's not to say the Sennheisers are bad. Those were great headphones that withstood the test of time and worked very well until I loaned them to a negligent friend. I chose the AKG's this time because of the wider frequency range and the sale price put them only about $25 more than the Sennheisers. The AKG doesn't provide as much sound isolation as the Sennheiser. The only thing I dont like about the AKG's at this point is that the ear paced dont twist side to side and the notches that allow them to lock and slide for adjustment and storage dont feel like they will withstand the test of time. That said, I cannot attest to any aspects of their reliability, as I have only had them for about 2 weeks as of this writing. What I absolutely love about them is the 3 cords that come with the headphones and the ease of changing/replacing those cords.

If you read nothing else, know that these are good headphones. They're robust enough to travel with. The included cables (long, coiled and short) make using these anywhere a breeze. They're comfortable to wear for a couple hours on end. I can't (and won't) use these as gym headphones (no phone jack), but I assume they'd give you sweaty ears in sweaty environments. In non-sweaty environments, such as music listening, or playing games, my ears don't sweat. For tracking, they're great. Comfort and sound isolation are on point. You could try using them for mixing, but honestly... there's many parameters that play into what sounds "accurate". I don't personally mix on headphones. The sound signature is intriguing. Enough so, that I find myself relistening to music to see where they shine. On that note, if you're a guitar player, you're going to like these. They make guitars sound fantastic. The rest sounds great too, but particularly guitars. I've also used them for gaming, which they shine at as well. Comparing them against my other tracking cans, M50Xs and HD 280s, these are my favorite. With the sale price falling in between the other two, I'm glad I bought them. For sound, the mids are awesome. The highs are... calm... but sound good. There's also some good bass response. Honestly, they sound good and different than anything I've heard before. They're more well built than the others, too. Buying these is a no-brainer. ... More

BEST headphone for location recording/boom operators/general studio tracking needs. Much better than MDR 7506 in all ways! Lightweight + ability to turn either up is great. They are quite flat out of the box and with EQ are really flat! With EQ compared to Aeon X Closed: I trust these more actually for overall accuracy for frequency response, but the Aeons overall sound better. (Aeons sound not so great without EQ though and so hard to drive that normal HP amps can't drive them) Hifiman Sundara's are better than Aeon X Closed/K371 in all ways including trusting them for mixing/clarity: but obviously are open-back. If you're laying sideways in bed on a pillow watching TV or something where you can't have the volume on your speakers up or something: these K371's work much better than most other headphones I've owned for that purpose also. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the pads flake and get all over everything after a year or two. (Top pad stays fine though) You can replace them with Brainworx pads when they wear out: but I personally prefer the original pads the best. This is my 2nd pair (Original pair with brainworx is fine still though) Overall, definitely great headphones: if you need a first pair of headphones for anything professional audio related: you can't really go bad with these as they are quite flat and very versatile. ... I've had a LOT of headphones over the decades, and these have the best sound. They're also the cheapest pair I've ever owned. They're detailed and a little sterile, but the Harman curved frequency response and surprising bass balance everything out. Problem is the build quality and fit. I have a really small head, so I had to attach an additional cushion to the headband. Once I did that, they fit great. They're lightweight and don't have much clamping force. The mechanism that adjusts the height of the ear cups slides too easily -- it doesn't stay locked in place unless you're really gentle. The ear cups also don't swivel, but they did fit comfortably anyway. ... More

... but these are great. I can only compare them to Sennheiser HD 280 (mine are probably 15yr old) and Sony MDR-7506 (just bought). The K371s give a slightly fuller sound compared to the 280s (expected and totally fine) and slightly more pleasant (softer) highs than the 7506s. I think all have enough detail (for my ears anyway). Having the detachable cable and not one, not two but three *different* cables included is a very nice touch. Speaking of nice, build quality and texture of materials are much better than I expected from the pictures. They are the right weight and feel perfect (meaning not slippery, snug but not tight). I'd say all three are very close but these are worth the extra $50. At the current price of $130, it's a no-brainer. ... More

These were great for about 2 months and then the left earphone quit working. Only thing I can imagine is a short in the wiring. I kept these in a hardshell case when not in use and when transporting so I can only guess that the damage took place while folding them down for storage. Like I said, they were great until they broke. Wish they'd been built a bit sturdier.

The headphones sound awesome, and I won't go into detail regarding that given that there are many reviews that talk about its capabilities. Now, in terms of quality of materials, there's so much to improve. I got these headphones for Christmas, I opened them, put them inside the accompanying bag and took them out next day and there were several spots of the headband with its material peeling. It is so bad that even with the lightest touch the material comes off. Please do not buy these $170 headphones expecting utmost quality.

B&H gladly took them back, but I was disappointed that they chanrged me $10.00 for shipping seeing it was their item that did not work, so keep your fingers crossed that if you order something different than the AKG phones that they pair OK. These linked right up, sound awesome, and have this very cool way of raising and lowing the volume by swiping your finger up and down the right ear cup, amazing and very easy to use! Excellent sound quality, however, build quality is terrible. The ear pads (both sides) started to disintegrate only five months into owning it. AKG warranties these for a year but when I reached out to them they said they were no longer making it and could not replace it. I was offered another model which was a similar price but was convenience orientated (wireless) and had lower audio quality. It may be possible to find replace pads on eBay but is it ridiculous for headphones in this price range to last only five months.

These will be great for musicians when recording. Not as accurate as my Shure SRH1840, but the 1840s are open back and cost triple the cost. I'm gonna buy a few more of these K71's down the road.
