Wonderful tripod/head combination. Couldnt be happier.
SUMMARY Im a mechanical engineer by trade and advanced photographer by hobby. I literally could not be happier with the combination of MT055CXPRO3 tripod and 405 Pro Digital Geared Head Kit. Online reviews tend to have an excessive number of negative opinions because customers who receive defective product (or chose something ill-suited) are extra motivated to post a review. Ignore the negatives. You get what you pay for and that truism applies ... Show More

Near Perfect Travel Tripod. Much improved over older version
TL;DR: --------- Bought this to replace an older model Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 (from 2012). This new version improves on it in working height, stability, and small useful things. It is, in my mind, unbeatable as a travel tripod and highly recommended. In Depth: ----------- I've owned the previous model Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 for 5 years and used it on countless shooting sessions. What I loved about it: - It was light - Only 3lbs - It folded short enoug... Show More

Far Better than a Vertical Ball Head
I bought this new 322RC2 to replace an old vertical type grip action ball head that I had used for years. I didn't like the way the camera body was so far away from the pivot ball with the vertical grip system. This was not really a problem during landscape shots, but became a real nuisance during portrait shots. Why? Because you had all that weight just hanging out there about 8 to the side of the tripod, away from the ball pivot point. I have a... Show More

Best legs for still photography, great for video not perfect
Bought this a few months ago for my DSLR camera setup. I have a Canon T6i with a full range of lenses. These legs were paired with the Manfrotto MHXPRO-BHQ2 XPRO Ball Head with 200PL Quick-Release System and this is the perfect combination for still images and light video work. One thing to note: If you decide you are going to shoot video regularly, you will need to purchase another set of legs that have a ball head built into the tripod for leve... Show More

Fantastic quality and durability
I shoot a lot of product photography, and I am only a week in with this tripod, so please, grain of salt and all. The ballhead is very nice, has a separate tension adjustment for the ballhead itself. Plate has a 2-latch feature for safety. Legs are very durable and easily adjusted on the fly with the snap-in-place locks. Previous tripod had twist-to-unlock, this is much easier, especially for small adjustments in height. Shooting product, often... Show More

Simple, Rugged, Smooth and a Gem!
Manfrotto did it again! This is not the biggest ball head out there that Manfrotto makes but it does amazing things. I mounted this to my Manfrotto 680B Monopod and on occasion I use this on the Manfrotto car window mount when shooting from the car on a quick pull over and snap a few photo moments. In both cases the ball head is smooth and sturdy. The main lock is a quick tension release allowing the head to swivel in all axises freely. The small... Show More

center column exploded into pieces...
First off, I'm going to say that this is my first really really good tripod. The legs are very light, and I coupled it with the Manfrotto 054 ball head which is heavy, but built like a tank. I've used this tripod a total of 4 times. I was having a great time with it. its VERY solid and the locking mechanisms work very well. The legs slide very nicely and offer easy adjustment. If you want a more portable version, i'd say the 3 jointed legs are a ... Show More

Not a Pro Tripod!
First of all im a pro real estate photographer and i have shot approx 1,500 homes full time in the last 5 years and i'm a member of the Australian Institute of Profesional Photography. I had an old 055prob that was showing its age and i decided it was time to upgrade when manfrotto released the new MTO55XPRO3. The new tripod performed well in the first two weeks except for the fact that I kept pinching my hands in the leg locks when i was snappin... Show More

Brilliant product with a small hiccup (for me)
I will happily give this item top ratings, so there is nothing wrong with the tripod. It is sturdy, and the perfect height for me as I am 57 and with a ball head and a tall camera, it comes right up to eye level and then later, my plan is to buy an oversized tripod for other needs later on. I was torn between the 055CXPRO3 vs this one but I wanted something lighter and the 055 was a tiny bit too expensive for me current needs. The Locking system ... Show More

Speed & Convenience All in One
I can't say how much i love this thing, it's easy to use (grab the handle) and makes my job easier (no tightening knobs). Pros: Easy to use, it's good for left handed or right handed use or for both (joystick mode) Stability, it easily holds an F100 with a 80-200 f2.8 and a flash. Firmness, the overall stiffness of the system instills confidence. Build Quality, it's movements are smooth, the motions are precise, it's solid metal. Quick Release, i... Show More

A step up.
I'm coming from the Manfrotto 190CX3 Carbon Fiber Tripod. It was a beautiful tripod, rock solid, reliable... that was until I ran it over. The carbon fiber survived flawlessly but the metal hinge sheered (impressed it handled that much stress so well). So needless to say I had to replace it. The things I liked about the CX3: Compactness Lever action to release legs Weight Functionality I was spoiled by the CX3. So I did some research and I landed... Show More

Lightweight Video Head
I bought this head and some legs separately, trying to find a medium light weight tripod setup for filming hiking and hunting in Idaho. I just got back from a 4 day trip and put this head to the test. Put the head though some snow and rain, normal Idaho spring time weather. I had no problem with this tripod head during my whole trip. I put my HVX200 (10 lbs) and my Canon 7D (3 lbs) on this head during the trip. The tripod panned and tilted just f... Show More

Not as Stable as I had Hoped
I debated about getting the PRO3 version of this tripod (which has 3-segment legs) but opted to buy this one instead, because with each leg broken into 4 segments, the tripod collapses down to a smaller size for ease of storage, carrying, etc... But this IS still a full-sized tripod, and there is no way to make it fold down to pocket-size. It's going to be big and clunky and a pain to lug around, no matter whether it has 3-segment or 4-segment le... Show More

Great CF tripod
When I started off in DSLR photography, I originally got a Giottos carbon-fiber tripod. It was nice and compact when folded, but I ultimately wasn't satisfied with the stability of the legs. Recently, I traded in for this Manfrotto 190CXPro3, and while bulkier, it's much more stable fully-extended. The tilting center column ought to come in handy for macro and other close-up work. And I like how the head platform has a swiveling bubble level.Cons... Show More

Perfect for still photography and timelapse's
Works great for stills or any other situation where you need can quickly position the camera in any way you'd like (landscape, portrait, dutch angle, etc), lock the head in place firmly and quickly and leave it alone till you need to need to reframe. This is not really meant for video unless your doing a time lapse or stationary whot where you don't need to pan or tilt, however I did use it on top of my Slider during an interview shoot, on top of... Very functional
I like the 200PL quick release system and wanted this system on the new head I was shopping for. I also did not want a ball head for my purposes. Those two feature requirements greatly reduced my choices and the XPRO 3way was really my only choice so that is what I purchased to put on my Benro A373T tripod. The head works great, it is strong and very adjustable. My only nit-pick is the way the quick release plate seats in the head. On my other M... Show More

Effective and fair, but not graceful
One thing to note about the 496RC2 is that the bottom plate, which is what affixes to the tripod, DOES NOT have space for the additional screws used to help hold the base of the ball head still. The only thing connecting the ball head to the tripod is the standard screw socket. Having said that, this ball head is not necessarily loose in regards to the tripod. You will just need to make sure you have attached it quite firmly. If this concerns you... Show More

Very quick, efficient
I have had this tripod head for a few weeks, and overall am very pleased with it. I bought it for speed and ease of camera positioning, and I'm not disappointed. I use it with the Neotec tripod base, which was also purchased for speed and ease of use. It's a great combination. The grip requires reasonable hand strength to actuate, even at the lowest tension setting. I have no problem with it, but I'm a 41yo guy with no health issues. I imagine it... Show More

Made me want to use my tripod more!
I will start with the ONLY negative of this grip. As supplied it is set to right hand use but I prefer to use it with my left hand, leaving my right hand free for releasing the shutter, etc. Switching it over from right to left hand operation is a simply matter using the supplied Allen key. For the life of me, I don't know why they market it as right hand use as all cameras shutter button is on the right side? Marketing error for sure as I wasn't... Show More

I had a set of 055XPROB for years. Using them daily doing real estate photography (3-6 shoots a day). They were great, a tank, loved them. Unfortunately, they ran out of gas recently so I needed new legs. Figured I'd stay with Manfrotto and go with what replaced these. Wish I hadn't! Manfrotto ain't what they used to be
When I lost the height knob for my 3021 (yeah, that's how long I've been a Manfrotto - Bogen guy) I started looking for a replacement. I knew I was over paying, but Manfrotto was once worth a little more. Not so with this tri-pod. The first thing you notice is that there's only one screw to attach the head. In the instructions they suggest using Manfrotto heads, but attaching a Manfrotto ball head proved less than satisfactory. With only one scre... Show More
