Great drive
Easy to setup. It is fast over USB 3.0. I am using it as my main drive for photos. If you need backup software from WD it will cost extra. So far the drive has been great, especially given the price at B&H. It is fairly large so I wouldn't plan on travelling with it.

I use it for an extra layer of backup. It just plugs in and works. I prefer drives that don't require an extra power connector.

Unit cannot be read, one time it reads fine then like it goes on vacation I cannot recommend this brand of external hhdHHD

All you need in a RELIABLE Hard Drive
This is my 3rd Western Digital Hard Disk Drive. I've had the old ones for several years and they have been 100% reliable ... they don't break, I just fill them up! WD is the only brand of HDD I buy; it is a great value. The WD Elements line does not include bundled software that you really don't need or want to pay for. One rock-solid HDD with zero problems.

Best 3TB hard disk ever!
This 3TB Elements External Desktop Hard Disk Drive is not just for multimedia but also for saving some work related stuff. Also i tried to use it as a virtual platform to set it up as a unix environment which worked pretty well so far.

Good so far
Product was easy to connect to my computer and the speed is over three times that of my previous USB 2 drive. This saves a lot of time when copying large photo files. My only complaint is that the spin up time is a bit long.

Good For Archiving
This does what it is supposed to do. I use it for archiving image files. It is not fast, but for me it doesn't need to be. I take one star off because the finish on the casing is an incredible dust magnet - high static electricity quotient, and shows finger prints.

Works great out of the box
This product works great out of the box: I use it with a Mac, just formatted it (10 seconds), and I use it as Time Machine hard drive. It is fast (USB 3), and simple if you don't use the WD software.

I will always buy these
You know, people complain sometimes about these being a little slow, and yeah, I agree...sometimes they're a lot slower than uploading images to my internal hard drive, but come on! These things are bricks. I have an older 2TB that (thanks to my toddler) has been dropped twice, once from 5 feet, has had thousands of gigs of images uploaded and removed and is always a beast. I trust these externals!! I'll compensate a little speed for reliability and indestructible qualities.

Great HD for high storage usage
Easy to set up and use, this external Desktop hd is great for use with media storage of any kind. Comes with a power switch to turn off when not in use. I leave it next to the tower and works seamlessly for all my video needs. Bigger than most External HDs I've owned so probably not the best for travel.

Excellent value for a reliable drive
I use this drive to store all my photos and videos. I have another one of these drives that I use as a backup. Been using WD drives for several years and have not had any problems at all with them. bhphotovideo had the best deal with free shipping and I got it within a few days. Great value for a really reliable drive. This will definitely not be the last one I buy.

Great backup system for multiple platfor
This was my best bet to use across multiple platforms (Windows & Linux). Very fast disk with huge disk space. I had no issues watching HD movies directly from the the WD Elements. BTW i use USB 3.0 to connect this drive. I have configured this drive to work shared with in my house network and works perfectly with multiple devices.
