Requires reformat to do Windows Backup
These drives wouldn't backup a Windows System Image until I reformatted them with a WD quick formatter. Download name is WD_Quick_Formatter_Win_1_2_0_10.zip . Also, when I connected both drives only one showed up. Apparently both were trying to use the same drive letter. I was able to resolve this with a visit to: Admistrative Tools - Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management. Both drives were visible there, and the second one could be put online.

Backup Backup Backup
You can never have your photos backed up enough. I have three External Hard Drives. This item is 2 of them. The third is a 2TB WD drive. This way, I should not ever lose everything. I keep only program information on my computer. The photos go to an external hard drive. The other two backup the entire computer and the external hard drive. Hopefully, nothing will ever exceed the capacity and ability of my protection.

Abundant Storage-But not Fast
I bought the WD 3TB hard drive to use as a backup for my photographs. It was on sale. (I remember buying a 212 MB hard drive for my 1st Gateway at almost 4 times the cost of this one.)It has plenty of storage; enough for my needs...now, and with my 4 other hard drives (all WD) I have plenty for the foreseeable future.It doesn't take up any more space on my desktop than any of my other WD HD's so that's a plus.My only complaints have to do with sp... Good product and great service from B&H
These are usually fine hard drives. The one I bought couldn't work because the USB cable would not not fit into the damaged USB port on the drive. I was disappointed, of course, but stuff like this occasionally happens. What was very impressive though, was how smoothly the return process was. The fine fellow I spoke with on the phone had the RMA and prepaid UPS label in my email inbox before we got off the phone. It was an excellent experience. Thanks.

Works Great as a Backup Drive
I purchased this drive to backup my WD My Book Live Duo NAS. I plugged it into the USB port on the back of the My Book. The Elements drive has a USB 3.0 port but it was backwards compatible with the USB 2.0 port on the My Book. It took a couple of tries to get it going but the 3rd time was the charm and my NAS is all backed up now. It took about 45 hours to backup 775GB. Perfect for backup!
Every year I buy two of these (or similar Wester Digital) to make Backup A & BackUp B. This way I have the same wedding files in both. If something happens, I always have a backup. It is less expensive that buying a RAID. Just remember to format to Mac Extended Journaled if you use Apple computers (iMac, MacBook, etc. for optimal use.

No Problems Right Out the Box
Perhaps this review is a little premature being that I've only had the unit three weeks. All the same, it's as simple as plug & play. This is my secord WD External. The other is a 1T I've had about three years & still using. Hopefully this one will be just as reliable.

Fast delivery and great product
The delivery came one day earlier than expected and was packed safely. The WD 3tb elements hard drive is amazing. It is quiet and and never makes any noise. Is it also very small and the build quality is very solid. It has vents all over the product for great ventilation.

great HHD
This HDD has been so far almost perfect. My only complaint is that the drive it automatically powered every time I boot my computer. It would've been nice if it remembered its powered off state. This issue effectively renders the power button almost useless. My OS is Fedora Linux but I highly doubt that the OS has anything to do with this.

Working just fine
Loaded about 2.3 TB of data upon receipt as backup and never missed a beat. After about 5 days it suddenly wasn't recognized by the new Dell 8700 I was using even after re-booting the computer. I got concerned but powered it down and moved it to another computer and it came right up so.....don't know what that problem was all about. Seems to be functioning very well again.

Very Fast, Very Inexpensive
At the price of this 3 TB drive, it is very, very cost-effective and the USB 3.0 connection makes it great as either a main image drive or for backup. Highly recommended.

Works as specified - 2.7 TB capacity
Quiet, shuts off when not in use. Fewer flashing, useless lights than other WD drives of mine, and slightly smaller. Good purchase at about $/TB !!

I would buy this product again
The 3TB elements just plugs in and is compatible with Mac OSX. The reformatting for Mac simple. Just follow included instructions. Everything working after 2 minutes.

Reliable HDD at a great price
I am moving from Windows world to Mac and needed a backup device for Time Machine on new MacBook Pro. I had shopped for awhile for HDD in 3-4 TB sizes and B&H had the best price for Western Digital, which is what my IT friends also use and recommend.Delivery was quick and easy, as promised.Only reason I gave 4 stars is that I couldn't use it on both Windows and Mac (but that might be more an Apple issue...)

Who needs cloud storage!
Great product. Plug and play out of the box. Unless you are storing massive video files, 3TB should be plenty of storage for anyone. B& H had the best price and shipping was very fast. Overall very pleased.
