This thing is great! I can't believe how good it sounds. I won't be going to those $80 an hour studios anymore! The ease of use is amazing, the quality is crazy. I highly recommend you get the stedman pop filter with this! It works great with the mic. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to get studio sound without a studio budget.

This microphone is amazing man.... The volume on this is perfect and amazing, It's clear enough for me to hear my vocals. I Don't really even have to edit my vocals with this microphone because it's that good. YOu better buy them now while you can now, because once people start buying these it aint gonna be possible for anyone to get one.

I know that BLUE produces some extraordinary gear but the sound from this mic blew me away! I also have the RODE Podcaster USB mic which is very nice but for my voice (spoken, not singing) this mic shines. Very rich and mellow. HUGE bang for the buck!

Both a unique and excellent mic for podcasting!

I just starting out in podcasting, I've been reading all I can get my hands on when I wanted to get a mic. I selected the Blue snowball since I liked the way it looked and because of it's omni-directional capabilities. Initially mic output was not where I wanted it to be. I use Garageband 3 and I had to boost my input levels to max as well sit very close in order to get proper pickup. After checking Blue's website I found that they had a firmware upgrade to raise the gain. Once I applied it, there were no problems with the input levels and I even had to dial it down a bit. My voice comes in with a great tonal range and a degree of warmth I didn't get from other USB and system-mounted mics I've used before. It is also really simple to setup and I had it working in minutes. The only negative for me would be that this is after all a USB mic, so it'll be difficult to do interviews, but since most of my interviews are being performed over Skype and the phone, I have other ways to get that audio into the system. I would recommend this to someone who wants to get into podcasting and do it the right way to make your voice shine through. This is not the cheapest USB mic you can get, but it is one of the best around. ... More

I purchased the Snowball specifically for Podcasting - it's terrific. I have it set up on a boom stand next to my desk in my office. When I'm ready to podcast, I simply swing the Snowball over, launch my software, and get to work. It sounds great, and makes the entire production more professional. I'm a geek, so setting it up would have been easy anyway. But this thing is so easy to set up - just plug it in and go - anyone could do it. I'm very satisfied. I only wish there was a tool or option to increase input volume. My only nit. Great product overall, and the price was right. ... More

Complete Amateur says "Love It"

When I say "complete amateur" I mean it. I wanted to try some home recording, didn't want to spend a zillion dollars and needed something pretty easy. The folks at my local GC recommended the Blue Snowball. To me, the mic looked weird, but I went with it. I'm glad I did. I started reading the set-up instructions, then got to the end of them and wondered where the rest were. Nope..that was it. Plugged it into my USB, did the few required clicks and it was up and running. My recording software recognized it right away and I tried laying some tracks down. I'm sure I'll get better with the whole recording thing (the GC guys said I'll get hooked) but all I can say is that this mic worked great and it seems to record very accurately. If I had any complaint, the stand construction seems a little cheesy, specifically the part where you can raise and lower the mic height and tighten it down. The mic itself is really well built. Why only four stars? Besides the fact that I don't really know what I'm talking about, I'm sure there are better 5-star mics, based on price alone. I love my Snowball so far! ... More

When I started my Internet Radio Station WSNR.US the first thing that I needed was a good microphone so I went to Guitar Center to shop and as soon as I walked in the door my Blue Snowball called to me! It was sitting in the glass case on the bottom shelf and I was drawn to it! Sitting there in brushed aluminum round as could be it was love at first sight. It was also the last one of it's kind in inventory so I wanted that one! The rest is history. My Blue Snowball stands as one of the best purchases I've ever made in is the cornerstone of what is now one of the most popular Internet Radio Stations today. The USB compatibility is made for PC broadcasting. It has far exceeded all expectations and now that we are moving into our own studios we're going Blue! The mic is also an attention grabber and my Facebook page contains several photos of my Blue Snowball. Combined with my HP Pavilion DV6 featuring beatsaudio we are a force to be reckoned with! I can broadcast from anywhere the Internet is present ANYWHERE! I just recently went live from Cabo San Lucus while on my annual FunCruise just as if I was in Chicago. Not only do I use it several of my other personalities followed suit and are equally ecstatic. My suggestion...BUY IT! ... More

Picked this little puppy up a couple days ago, and I must say.... WOW!! I never expected a USB condenser mic to be this versatile or be this easy to use. I've tried a couple USB interface devices in the past and I've always been disappointed at how hard they are to set up and use, on top of the quality that is produced not being that great. Most of the time I could do better with a tape recorder. But this thing blew me away. I mean, it's no Blue Bottle, but its terrific for using in conjunction with Garage Band for acoustic guitar and vocals. The three modes of the mic give you the freedom to change how your sound is being input into your interface, the swivel lets you direction the mic where it is most effective, and it just looks freakin cool. All around, amazing piece of gear. Definitely recommended for your at home projects or field recording.. ... More

BUYER BEWARE! DON'T BUY IT!

My Advice. Don't buy it. It's a piece of junk. And once you find out, you're stuck with it. Here's the reason. Guitar Center has a policy of no returns on "voice" mics. So if something is wrong, you can't turn there. Ok, I'm thinking, I'll go to Blue. In my situation, the mic had extremely low audio output, EVEN AFTER DOWNLOADING THE FIRMWARE FROM BLUE"S WEBSITE. And the LED light never turned on (it should be on when the mic is working). So I emailed Blue directly. Listen to this. They informed me that it was my system at fault (I have a brand new high end Mac Intel tower). Sure, it's my fault that the LED doesn't light up at all! Then in another email, they said I "probably" didn't download the firmware properly (I'm am IT guy, and did it 3 times!). Bottom line: Blue said my mic was ok, can't get a replacement and they won't refund a cent. So I'm suck with this piece of junk. As they say in business law 101: "Let the buyer beware." My advice. Forget the USB hype and purchase a mic with a preamp (means you buy the mic and a separate $100 preamp). It might cost a little more but it's worth not having all the hassles. You will not get a better mic for this price, it is well worth it. I would have paid more for this mic. I've used it for micing my guitar amp, my acoustic guitar and my voice. It sounds great for vocals wether you are singing or doing spoken word. If you're a musician or voice-over artist looking for a cheap yet reliable microphone, I would highly recommend this.

I wanted a good mic to do mobile/quick recordings without having to setup my whole studio. I chose the Snowball over other USB mics because of the Blue reputation for sound quality and for the look of the Snowball. Next to my white MacBook the Snowball fits nicely. The mic comes with a sturdy stand and a 6ft USB cable. The ball itself seems very sturdy. Out of the box the Snowball is likely to record at low levels, but the Blue website has firmware updates that will fix that. I don’t like that you can’t control the output except through the firmware updates. No software to control the mic settings. It has three record patterns that allow you to successfully record a single voice/instrument or multiple voices/instruments. I use it occasionally for singing and mostly for podcasting. I called support about the scratchy noise that another reviewer mentioned and you just have to make sure you are recording at 16-bit. I am pleased with the sound quality, the price, and Blue support. ... More

I didn't think much of this mic when I first got it and friend of mine had it and used it with another mic for background vocals. But wow when I got it for myself and used it for recording lead vocals I couldn't believe the sound that came from it. I have done hundreds of songs with this mic and I would put its sound up against most USB mics. For as great as this mic works the price is practically a steal. If you know how to work with the program you have I can tell you that adding this guy to your small studio will give you close to professional sound. I bought this mic after reading all the reviews on it. To be honest I was a little iffy about it since some reviews said that the mic is quiet. The sound, in my opinion, is pretty awesome for its price. But the only thing I do not like about this mic is that you have to be pretty close to it for it to hear you. My friends 15 dollar mic can pick up your sound from about a meter stick away pretty well, and I was hoping for that with this mic. I guess it's a good thing for some parts since it won't hear all the extra noise though. Overall, I'm satisfied with this mic. If you're podcasting, this mic is great. If you're getting this mic for the conference recording setting it has, don't get it; as I said you have to be quite close. Recording music is also good with this mic as well. Definitely great for the price. ... More

For the price, this microphone is awesome. It is a USB condenser mic, so there is no need for an interface; Just plug in and rock out! This microphone does really well with vocals, but, like all other condensers, it's pretty touchy and does need a pop filter. With amps and cabs, this microphone also rocks. As long as you know how to position a mic on an amp cab, then you'll get some great tones out of it. However, with acoustic guitar, I've found that this mic doesn't pick up all the fine detail that it needs to in order to get a rich, full tone. Still an awesome microphone, especially for the price. Yes, save your money for a better microphone. I didn't want to go the route of purchasing a recording interface so I just bought this mic. The output levels are terribly low. There is a constant hiss during any sort of recording whether vocal or acoustic. Its great if all you want to do is lay down an idea before you forget it but as far as recording is concerned, save you money and buy the right thing. Don't take the short cut like I did.
