Fast, Light, Well Designed

Oct 22, 2015

I bought the StoreJet 500in the petite 256 GB in size for two reasons: first I needed a drive to carry large multi-gigabyte files back and forth between two sites. I suppose this is even small enough to carry in a pocket, but generally I put it inside it supplied slipcover and travel with it inside a protected compartment of a backpack. The second reason for the purchase was to have an emergency boot drive for my multiple Mac office. I own severa... Show More

Fast. Expensive.

Oct 25, 2019

At this time, this disk is expensive compared to USB3-only SSDs, and Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are obsolete, but if you have a computer with more Thunderbolt ports than you know what to do with and not enough USB3 ports (I'm looking at you, 2013 Mac Pro) then your choices are limited and maybe this disk is interesting. Or you just like the silver look. Contents: Mine did not come with a travel pouch as mentioned in the B&H description, nor is one list... Show More

New life for an older Mac

Feb 17, 2017

I decided to try to revitalize my 2011 iMac by using this SSD as a boot disc. I figured the Thunderbolt connection might be slower than the internal bus, but I read good things about the drive (here and on other sites), so I figured I'd give it a chance. I have been really happy with the results. Programs start much more quickly, and files that used to take a while to open now pop right up on the screen. But the biggest difference is how long it ... Portable, Fast, Hot

Apr 14, 2015

A keyboardist and guitarist, I bought this drive to decrease load times of instruments and samples and increase the responsiveness of my live performance rig. It's size and weight are big plusses. Running speed tests revealed that the read and write speeds are very close to equal whether using USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt 2. The tests show write speeds of appx. 285 MB/s with read speeds around 375 MB/s. Though it seems no faster than USB 3, I needed th... Show More

Great backup Drive for MAC.

Feb 14, 2018

When I first received it I did a good visual on it since he shipping box did not have sufficient packing in it. The manufacturers packaging was very good and was complete. Plugged the drive into the computer and it worked fine for about a day. The following day I received a error so I ran a drive testing program on it. It said I had a "B" tree error recommended and said it could not be fixed. I verified the error with disk utility and it also sai... Show More

Decent drive, but thunderbolt speeds are aweful

Jun 22, 2015

The size of the drive is pretty big (dimensions, not storage wise), and the thunderbolt & usb3 speeds are not not great. In using a late 2013 iMac and mid 2013 MacBook Pro, I was disappointed in the speeds. The max for either USB3, or thunderbolt was usually 295MBs Write / 359MB Read. I benchmarked it 3 times, and those are the averages. For thunderbolt, I would've expected it to be at least 500MB R/W (preferably in the 700-800MB range) I tested ... Show More

I would've just stuck with SanDisk USB3.0 SSD's...

Feb 2, 2017

I've been using SanDisk SSD drive (USB 3.0), and heard that Thunderbolt is a lot faster so gave it a try. First of all, compared to SanDisk, which is very thin and beautifully designed, this Transcend looks more like traditional hard drive with its big size. It looks like it needs to be handled with care. And for the speed, I don't notice any difference. I am a video editor and I work on MacBook Pro with all the files in external SSD drive. Considering the price which was about twice higher than the SanDisk, I think I made a poor decision.

Stylish, robust, fast SSD

Jan 31, 2016

I'm a composer and I bought this SSD to store my music sample libraries on. These are large files and I needed something with good read speeds. They load into projects insanely fast and there is never a glitch in the libraries' performance. It's a stylish looking drive and fits in well with my mac based studio. The case feels robust as does the Thunderbolt connector. I've only been working with this drive for a few days but I'm pleased with it so far. It is a huge improvement on my previous mechanical drives.

Does the job.

Oct 21, 2015

I built a PC for video editing and I used a mother board that has a Thunderbolt port. My purpose was to have the capability to have an external solid state HD video storage site that I could edit from. I have Windows 7 and I had to reformat this drive, but I got that accomplished in relatively short order. So far this set up performs as I hoped it would. I edit HD video directly off this solid state hard drive and so far works as I had hoped. I use Vegas Pro 13.

Simple but with good performance

Jul 11, 2016

Set up as a boot drive for 2011 iMac. Significant increase in percieved nimbleness for boot and application startup. Not the fastest on the market but more than fast enough as an upgrade for 2011 iMac and as good value as you are likely to get for the dual interface flexibility. Supplied Thunderbolt cable long enough for this use.

Fast.

May 26, 2015

This is a fast transferring, large capacity external hard drive. I use it for my Lightroom default photo download location, and it works perfectly. Data travels at thunderbolt speed, with no perception of delay in download or retrieval. Well worth the price to expand my computer's capabilities.

Seriously quick drive

Oct 24, 2017

Great Drive. Runs hot but who cares-it's so fast. Runs big InDesign files, cache on PS and provides a nice boost to my workflow. It's wonderful to be able to move between a Mac Pro and laptop without any great distinction in access times to big files. Back-up in seconds to a network server.

Extremely satisfied

Feb 17, 2019

Lightning speed, attractive design, excellent build quality, nice packaging, and rock-solid reliability after over two years of use as the primary SSD drive for my aging mid-2011 iMac. I love this drive and I will be keeping it to use it as supplemental storage for my new iMac!

Very Happy

May 10, 2018

I am very happy w/ this drive. I use VMWare to compile a VERY LARGE software project on Windows, Linux, and OSX. Compiling is extremely I/O heavy and this drive is an order of magnitude faster than traditional drive. Unscientifically I'd say it cut my compile time in half.

Fast read speed but much slower write speed

Mar 29, 2016

I was disappointed when I found out the write speed is half the read speed. I was using this for backing up media on a shoot. It still is fast for that, but not as good as other options. For editing, however, it's awesome! And it is a very good value for the capacity.

Expensive but good option for older iMac

I purchased this as an upgrade for an old iMac that has a Thunderbolt connection and spinning disk. I installed Mojave on the external drive, and performance improvement is significant. The drive has worked flawlessly and will extend the lifetime of the computer.

Excellent!

Lots of space in a tiny, light and attractive package. 55 GB transfer took about 15 minutes via a Thunderbolt port. Be aware, for a SSD without moving parts, it gets pretty darn warm during those larger transfers.

I purchased this to serve as the primary hard drive on an older iMac. Has been working great with Mojave thus far. Its alittle pricey, but is faster then a USB external drive on the machine.

It's fast, compact, easy to carry and works great so far. I've only had a few weeks, but based on that limited experience I would recommend it. I'm using the thunderbolt connection.
