Very crisp sound

Jan 17, 2020

I used the mic for the first time recently for an interview. Various clips are provided to make it easy to attach to any shirt. The windscreen is easy to affix to the mic. It sounded good during recording, but when I got it home and listened to the footage, it sounded amazing! I feel like I can count on crisp sound from now on. I bought an extension xlr, but the cable it comes with is quite long. Very good lav mic!

The Sony ECM/77 is one work horse of a microphone. You will find it in sets and studios all over the world! What I love about it in addition to its bright clear vocal capture is its durability and shielding. Very un usual to have a buzz or 60 cycle him in these. There is a reason this is an industry standard.

The best lavalier mic ever !

My go-to lav mic

Nov 9, 2017

I've used the ECM-77B to record about 35 documentary-style interviews in the past year. I'm consistently impressed with the quality of recording it produces. I don't want to speak to its noisiness in any way because I think it varies depending on your setup, but I use it with a Tascam digital recorder and post-produce the audio in Audition with the iZotope noise correction VST. It feels like, no matter which boom mic I use, and no matter how much I post-produce a recording from another mic on the same set, the ECM-77B recording is always my #1 choice for dialogue tracks. Strongly recommended.

Does the job!

Based on the price point of this product, it meets my needs for a reliable, wired microphone to use with my Panasonic AG-AC160A camera. Some of the environments in which training videos are shot have too much interference to use a wireless mic. It is great for picking up (and somewhat isolating) the voice of the speaker and avoids enough of the ambient noise in the room to keep me happy.

Sony lav's, still the best

Love it, Used it today on 7 part promo for a book online marketing piece. Small, hidden, sounds great. Used ECM-50 for years and this ECM-77b is to replace that work horse. Turner and Associates Sacramento CA

A true workhorse

We use this for sit down interviews all over the world. Our mics are beat up in luggage, carted in backpacks to small villages and always sound the same. I rent these out and they come back fine. Sound quality is probably a 8-9 out of 11. Not the best sounding mics you'll ever use, but great for price and build. Would buy again...and again.

Went out and bought a second one the next day

Oct 11, 2016

We bought this lav to shoot web videos including interviews and comedy sketches. After our first shoot, using our shiny new ECM-77B on one actor, and a borrowed lav (can't recall the model) on the other, we immediately purchased a second ECM-77B. The sound quality was incredibly superior. We had listened to it live in the booth at B&H and loved the sound right away compared to it's competitors, but after ingesting our footage we were even more pl... Show More

This is a great microphone for studio use, and I also use outdoors during shoots where the wire will not be seen. Very nice overall sound, but you do get what you pay for with this mic.

Very Light

This mic is great for field applications. If you're doing a production you really should consider this microphone. It's light and like other Sony mics, it just works well. B & H has the best price. You really can't go wrong with this mic. I highly recommend it!

We replaced a basic lavalier microphone with this more sophisticated model. It's easier to hide and the sound quality if oh so much better and doesn't pick up interference all ver the place.

This is a great lav mic that has been around forever and always gets the job done. I was a little disappointed that they have altered the case for the one I have had since the 90's. The old packaging was ba better design

The best (wired) Lavalier Mic out there

Jun 3, 2014

I have been using the ECM-77B for 3 years since I have been working in the news industry. I recently bought one myself for independent projects. It is a powerful microphone that grabs great sound. Unless you're in a room where the A/C is disrupting (usually the subject's voice will overpower the outside noise) the microphone captures great audio from a subject or interviewee. Make sure you have a double A battery when you use it; I forgot it at a shoot once and even though it still captures audio, it would've been much better to have it.

Quiet, reliable, sensitive

Oct 24, 2013

We mainly use it for interviews, as principal mic or when there's too much ambient noise to use only a shotgun mic. The ability to either run with battery or the cam's phantom power is appreciated. We always carry it in the camera case!

Great Lavalier Mic

Feb 28, 2013

I bought this mic as a second mic for my video production business. My main lav mic was the Sony ECM-77B, which I've had for years. It provides great sound for interviews. I recently had a shoot where I needed to mic two people so I bought another ECM-77. This mic is definitely durable and lasted much longer than the wireless mic I owned. I use it with my Canon XF300, powering it thru the camera's phantom power. Excellent mic, worth it's cost.

I was using a wireless lav in a hotel conference room and for some reason I was getting interference. Fortunately a fellow videographer had this lav, so I purchased one for my next gig. I won't use wireless now unless the job requires it. This thing is foolproof and the sound is clear.

Industry Standard for a Reason

Dec 13, 2011

I've use the ECM-77B for broadcast journalism, documentary filmmaking, and have even used it for off-camera voiceover work. Totally solid build quality, small and inconspicuous to use, and the sound is flawless. It's worth mentioning that the semi-hardshell padded case it comes with is a huge perk of the mic - it keeps this little guy safe when you're schlepping around gear to & from shoots, projects, etc.

THE industry standard

Sep 15, 2011

I've had my Sony 77B's for 20 years. They have been through hurricanes, ice storms, and snowstorms. For 10 years I was a network news photographer and did numerous live shots and all day coverage for a cable network. My 77's NEVER failed me. I've got Trams that are susceptible to RF interference. When the Tram fails, I know my 77 will save the day. Time to replace them as the wires are starting to fray near the capsule.
