Excellent wide angle choice for M4/3

Sep 21, 2010

Really sharp for a UWA, well built, and amazingly small and lightweight for what it is. Lenscap is quite large as it fits over the domed front -- it is not easy to lose, which is good. While it can't use filters but that's ok as polarizers and UWA don't typically work so well together. This is better than most UWA options for full size SLRs. Buy this one, while there isn't a lot of depth of field in a wide, this makes it possible to leave the SLR at home.

Great wide-angle lens for my GF1

Sep 20, 2010

I bought this lens in advance of a trip to Acadia National Park, Maine. I was traveling light -- instead of my D300 and associated lenses, I brought only my GF1, 20mm f/1.7, and this lens. I shot with this lens 80% of the time and have been very pleased with the results. I shot several HDR sequences hand held with this lens and the GF1 and processed them with Photomatix Pro, and the results are wonderful. It is pricey, but it appears to be an exc... Show More

Excellent performance, small package

Sep 15, 2010

I tested this lens against my Nikon 12-24 lens, and found the Panasonic to have significantly better edge sharpness and lower chromatic abberation. It is well built and a small size and weight.

Great perspective

Sep 14, 2010

The exciting perspective and wide field of view combined with excellent sharpness make this lens a winner. It's a welcome addition to the Lumix G line.

Buy it if you can afford it.

Aug 12, 2010

This lens is wonderful, especially for interior shots. I use it on a GF-1 and it is great, it makes some wonderful shots possible. I have found the full-range of Panasonic lenses very good(I have about all of them for the M 4/3, are quite good even if stopped way down. They are great wide-open, and you can carry every conceivable lens you may need in one or two small bags or just take the 14-140.) This is a very nice lens in a small package. Good... Show More

Little and powerful

Aug 4, 2010

Well I use most of the time for video recording in HD, and with this lens everything its in frame, such a great point of view, I use to close a little not at full 7, cause its so heavy in sides but for a steady shot in travellings at speed , oh!! all works great. I was very surprised when I received about weight and size, its small and light but, thats perfect for 12h working with. Its hard to change when you put this lens, cause the range gives a lot of chances.

Impressive lens, remarkable performance

Jul 30, 2010

I bought this lens to complete my GF1 kit (also have the 20mm f1.7, and the 45mm f2.8 macro), and in that context, the 7-14 f4 is perfect. That said, with all the reports/reviews claiming low distortion on this lens, I was surprised to see the stretching that happens towards the sides of the image at the widest (7mm) extreme. When people are in that section of the image, they look wider than they do in real life. Now that I've gotten used to it, ... Show More

Great Lens!

Jul 27, 2010

An ultra-wide that is excellent for certain landscapes e.g. I look for interesting foreground(s). It's difficult but also exciting to use. I consider it a sky lens. Of course the huge field of view is it's primary feature, but it's also small, lightweight, and flare is quite well controlled. Also minimum curvilinear distortion, but I understand this is corrected by software. Due to design it cannot take filters, but comes with a built in lens hoo... Show More

An exensive lens that delivers!

Jul 26, 2010

Panasonic has delivered a truly interesting lens that goes from very wide lens, almost fish eye to a useable wide angle. Compact and easy to use with a distinct distorted view at the 7 mm. This is a useful lens for traveling and I look forward to capturing some great pictures.

Sharp and Tiny

Jul 7, 2010

Oh man, if you have an m4/3 camera and you like the wide end of things you will enjoy the heck out of this lens. It's sharp sharp sharp and so tiny and cute. I'm amazed at the relative lack of distortion at the wide end as well, a far cry from my wide Canon stuff. Honestly I think this is sharper than my Canon 14mm prime on the 5DII. IQ is closer to the 16-35mm II for about 1/4 the size and weight. Did I mention how tiny it is? :) I'm going small and light this summer with the m4/3 kit on the Panasonic GF-1 and just loving life.

Lumix G-Vario 714mm lens

May 31, 2010

I have bought the Lumix G-Vario 714mm lens last week. I have experienced a powerful way to take beautiful wide-angle photos. It's another perspective! A new way to see the life outside the camera! Perfect to trips where panoramic photos are expected. Superb. I recommend this lens for all that want creative photos. Just incline the camera a little bit and a new horizon will be seen. It became the main lens of my Lumix G1!

What a great, wideangle view!

May 30, 2010

I use the LUMIX 7-14mm lens with my LUMIX GF1 and it works great. Absolutly sharp and minimal bend (hope this is the right word?) for this wide angle.Landscapes, open skys, mountains (i'am living at the swiss alps!) viewing in a new kind of perception.so the produce is great, ....So, i'am completly happy and satisfied.

Excellent wide zoom for MFT cameras

May 27, 2010

This is the perfect lens for tight quarters. Very solid, smooth zooming action, an impressive piece of glass all around. At 7mm there is some distortion in the corners but much less than I expected. The lens feels a bit heavy on the Panasonic GF-1; I considered the lighter new 9-18mm as well, but in the end optical quality is more important than a few ounces of weight.

Panasonic 7-14mm f/4 ASPH LUMIX G VARIO

Apr 13, 2010

The lens is very small and uses a complex design of 16 elements in 12 groups, with 2 aspherical elements, weighing in at just 300 grams (just over 10oz), due to its plastic construction. As the four-thirds system mount produces a 2x ''crop factor,'' the lens produces an effective field of view of 14-28mm when mounted on a Panasonic G-1 or GH-1. The lens features a constant F4 aperture and a fixed lens hood; the large protruding front element prec... Show More

Mar 15, 2010

Great wide angle.. Your shots will have more DOF, and be sharper hand held.. Near/far relationship photos..really incredible. Not much distortion to speak of for a WA.. They did their homework on this lens.. I cant see much room for improvement here. All I can say is...GET THIS LENS!!! A++ Great!!

Super lens, but expensive

Feb 2, 2010

You see the world in a whole new way with this lens. It is NOT a fisheye, so a 14-mm (35-mm equiv) scene with straight lines is very interesting. But a lot of things are distorted because of this perspective. It cam make people look grotesque. It is great for architecture and nature. It is sharp, a bit smaller than my GH1 14-140 prime lens, and has very little chromatic aberration in the corners. There is no shake reduction, but at this wide angle, it is not needed.

Most 14mm lenses are fisheyes. This lens has almost no distortion. It gives a very different perspective on things.
