Best Ultra-Wide Choice for M43

Jan 22, 2013

I love using old rangefinder glass on my GH2 but with a 2X crop I need to buy dedicated M43 wide angle and ultra-wide angle lenses. The effective 35 equivalent range of 14-24 covers all of my wide angle shooting needs. Even towards the 24mm range I prefer my 7-14 to the 14-140 kit zoom included with the camera. It also has a constant zoom so you can dramatically zoom and exaggerate perspective while shooting video. There is normal ultra-wide dist... Show More

Great product!

This is a great super wide angle lens. The images are really crisp. It's a little expensive, but worth the money. There isn't a better micro 4/3s wide angle lens.

Amazing Sharpness & OM-D Purple Flare

Dec 17, 2012

I have used this with my OM-D, and like others, I get the weird purple flare showing up most times when there is a strong backlit situation. However, the edge-to-edge sharpness is great, so I will put up with this by avoiding severely back-lit situations until I get my new GH-3. The lens is even smaller than I expected (a good thing) and seems very well constructed. No complaints at all, except for the purple flare. Great for interior shots with post-processing for perspective corrections in DxO or Lightroom and CS-6.

Lives up to its reputation. Bought this for landscape. Great for hyper focusing. Useful to have software that can correct perspective when taking architecture.

BEST WIDE ANGLE LENS FOR MFT

Nov 23, 2012

Been using this lens for the last month and I'm hooked! This lens is SHARP and the widest angle you can get without being a fish eye lens! Perfect for landscape and architectural photos. LOVE IT!! Expensive but it's worth every penny!

Real Classic must own lens.

If you need a wide angle lens for your micro four thirds camera this is the one to get. Sharp as a tack and also the widest lens you can buy. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful lens with excellent results. Bought it with my new Panasonic Lumix G5 and the combination gives me excellent results. I always wanted to own a wide lens and this is a great product for a good price.

Well made And a pleasure to use

Sep 27, 2012

I use this lens with the Olympus OMD. It works flawlessly. It is a terrific range for a wide angle zoom. The build quality makes me feel like I am using my full frame cameras. Even thouGh the image quality is a tad lacking compared to my full frame cameras it is so conviememt and fun to use . I end up grabbing this camera/ lens camera more often than not. The f4 is a nice bonus when compared to many other 4/3rds lenses. Highly recommended

Great lens but...

Sep 19, 2012

Very Impressive lens, useful wide angle zoom range. Super sharp. But I had a problem with mine and my Olympus Om-D E-M5. Big patch of magenta seem to apear on the photo when part of the picture was more bright than the rest, a very well documented problem apparently... So it was not for me. But still I recommended it.

Love this lens

Sep 19, 2012

I have hardly had this lens off my camera since I received it. I was a bit concerned that there might be distortion at the edge of the picture but that has not occurred. I love it!

I love it !!

Sep 8, 2012

Just love this lens...it's my carry everywhere lens on my OMD-5. Wide open, it's sharper than both my 10-22 EF-s and my 17-40L. It does get flare as the lens shade is short. And lightweight. That's why I'm complimenting my heavy Canon bodies and lenses. You'll love this combo. Also, get the 45 f1.8 for more range. Also very sharp wide open.

I love wide angle and this one is a must. Easy to use and very compact. A masterwork. My only regret: No filter can be attached to the lens.

Excellent ultra-wide for the E-M5

Jun 25, 2012

This lens was purchased to be used on the Olympus E-M5, so I can only address its performance on this camera. So far most shots have been taken outdoors, with some testing inside. The lens feels solidly built, but is not too heavy or long to enjoy using on the Olympus. On the E-M5, auto focus is fast, very quiet and always accurate. AF is not quite as fast as with the newer Olympus Micro Four Thirds lenses, but it's much faster than legacy Oly Fo... Show More

A nice tool in the box

Jun 18, 2012

Very nice lens when shooting video with a GH 2. Allows a nice intimate view without too much distortion. I do wish it was a stop faster..but then again..the physical size and cost would be much greater. I have a hacked GH2 which I use in support of my XDCAM EX gear. Small and wide..this lens allows me access to locations where a big camera just can't gop.

What got me to consider m43s...

May 24, 2012

If you need wide angles, this lens is simply awesome. The way it can capture a dramatic cloudy sky is making me enjoy landscapes much more. Nice and sharp - but bigger and heavier than your average m43 lens. For the relatively small amount of landscapes I do, and the desire to be more portable, this was a no brainer versus Nikon 14-24 for my FF. I wasn't in a position to be able to compare it to the smaller Olympus 9-18. Main annoyance, like the Nikon, is no easy way to use filters.

Great Angle of View - but not as sharp

May 16, 2012

This is a really fantastic lens in terms of angle of view. However, it is not as sharp as I expected given all the positive raves. I would get it again but wish that it was sharper.

Now that's WIDE

Apr 19, 2012

This lens is truly remarkable in just how astonishingly wide it can shoot. The wide side starting at 7mm (14mm equivalent FL) can create some really dramatic effects. Zoom to 14 makes it reasonably handy as a somewhat wide walkaround lens (though the Oly 9-18 would be more versatile for that and covers a similar range). Sharp throughout the range. Pros: - Light - Small for what it is - Constant f/4 - Fixed petal hood - Very little distortion throughout the FL (most noticeable at 7) Cons: - Expensive - Can not take filters - Large, exposed front element (scares me) - Max aperture of f/4

stunning performance

Apr 18, 2012

I bought the 7-14mm to be my primary digital capture lens for a 6-week road trip this summer photographing drive-in movie theaters. On tripod with delayed release at f/7.1, center resolution equals the Lumix 14mm prime, and edge resolution clearly exceeds it (and the 14 is an excellent lens). The resolution hardly diminishes all the way down to 7mm. Aberrations are nearly non-existent even at 100% view. There is a slight tendency to color fringin... Show More

Fulfilled Expectations

Apr 17, 2012

I have been impressed with this lens for the short time that I have had it. It is well constructed and a delight to handle with its smooth operation and lightning quick focus. Another quality Panasonic product to add to my stable of lenses (apart from the 14-42mm and 45-200mm kit lenses, I also have the Panasonic Macro and a Voigtlander Nokton f0.95 to go with my Panasonic G3). This is a welcome addition. I only have to get used to avoiding the warping that goes with a wide angle lens if I don't have the camera straight although this does occasionally create some interesting perspectives.

So so...

Mar 19, 2012

This is a cheap lens; make no mistake about it. The build quality feels cheap and it's definitely a consumer-grade piece of glass. I'm using it on an AF100 and all auto functions actually work (except IS, of course). As far as picture quality is concerned, I bought this with the Olympus 14-35 and the image quality of the Olympus simply destroys that of this lens. Unfair comparison? Maybe...but still... I bought this lens for a select few wide, ou... Show More
