Love this lense!

May 23, 2011

I'm an American landscape photographer living in Germany close to Kaiserslautern. I purchased this lense two weeks ago and all I can say is wow. I bought a Panasonic G1 with the 14-45mm lense kit two years which I like but this lense is two steps above. Sharp, light, and contrasty. This is DEFINITELY a BIG SKIES lense! Exagerates close items and big sweeping skies is hard to beat. Only downside is she struggles in low light with a max apeture of F4

Good fun - Great quality

May 16, 2011

The Lumix 7-14mm lens works perfectly with my camera (Olympus PEN E-PL1, which is a Micro Four Thirds Format, just like Panasonic's Lumix). I am a beginner at amateur photography and recently moved to Greenland, where I wanted to be able to take wide-angle pictures of the vast landscapes that are abundant here. The lens does a great job here! The 7mm here correspond to 14mm on a full-format-camera and are easily enough for my purposes. Anything w... Show More

Lumix G Vario 7-14mm Review

May 16, 2011

I must say that these lenses although not fast with f-stop are very solid feeling when held in the hand. Considering that they are not metal but plastic is not a good reason not to purchase this lens the Lumix G Vario 7-14mm. I use this lens to photograph and film real estate and I have been taken away by the usefulness of being able to get wide, talking about being creative. Super good purchase and would do again. Plus it will work on the af100

Compact and Sharp

Apr 5, 2011

Compact and sharp. Would be nice to have a filter thread, hence the 4 stars. Feels solid and covers a great range if you are fond of wide angle. A Great Landscape and interior Lens. A touch expensive but probably worth it if you are looking for a zoom that covers the wider aspects. No regrets.

Good value

Mar 9, 2011

Item work best with Panasonic body where the processing unit make appropriate adjustment to decode the image captured by the unit. Price is also the most competitive in US as in other countries, they are at lease 20% to 80% more expensive. Build quality is typical of quality Japanese make, feel good and solid in hand. Thought I used mainly large aperture with my Canon EOS system and always hope this can be a f2.8, it does feel it is the right siz... Show More

Slow, but best for AF100 at the moment

Feb 14, 2011

This lens works well with the Panasonic AF100, but at F4.0 it's not remarkable. The build quality is slightly chintzy, but not bad. Optically, it's certainly passable. As one would expect, there is quite a bit of distortion, but that's a look in itself. Until there are zoom options that work on the wide end of the scale, preferably at least F2.8, this is the best option for a wide zoom that works with the AF100.

Perfect lens for landscape photography

Jan 31, 2011

I am a retired professional photographer who has used large, medium, and DSLR format cameras. I did studio work as well as landscapes for fine art sale. After retiring, I bought a Panasonic GF1 micro 4/3rd/s system, simply because I didn't want to carry around a lot of weight. The Lumix G Vario 7-14mm Lens is the perfect lens for the type of landscapes that I do. Since I'm on tripod 95% of the time, the slow f4 doesn't bother me. The lens is extr... Show More

Meet the equivalent of Nikkor 14-24 mm

Jan 27, 2011

I mostly use wide angle lenses (fixed-focal length/prime or zooms). For the past 3 years my main camera has been a Nikon D3combined with a 14-24 mm zoom (Nikon) since Dec. 2008, and now a 16-35 mm too. Acquiring and using the 14-24 mm 2 years ago was a rare treat in quality equipment and quality results. Last summer I had tried the Olympus super-wide zoom on my Panasonic GF1. It was ok: interesting super-wide angle of course, but compared with th... Show More

Excellent for AG-AF100 Video Camera

Jan 20, 2011

I purchased this lens to provide wide-angle capability with Panasonic's new AG-AF100 video camera. The lens delivers a very impressive image. Distortion around the edge is minimal. Vertical lines are actually vertical. The lens interfaces perfectly with the video camera in both manual and automatic modes. When zoomed back to 7mm, the coverage will totally encompass any scene. Nice to have when you need it. The lens appears well built, and is clearly worth the price.

great lens

Jan 17, 2011

I am amazed at the sharpness and 'correctness' of this lens. I expected more distortion and found almost none. The auto focus performs flawlessly. The only downside is the inability to put on a safety UV filter or polariser etc. In practice the lens hood does a good job of protecting the lens. There are some DIY solutions on the Net to attach a filter..

Dec 31, 2010

Well, I live in London and B&H is a real value added lifeline (no compensation for the ad B&H). I bought my Lumix GH1, probably then one of a handful hot off the production line, and I have used it extensively throughout Europe (I live i London - the best city it world, and my home is in Tucson - home of the best sunsets). Everything was very good. But my perspective was limited so I ordered the 7-14 G Vario, largely based on B&H Reviews. So far,... Show More

Professional Lens

Nov 30, 2010

This is the 2nd widest lens I have, compared to the Sigma 12-24mm that I use on the 5DMkII. The Lumix 7-14mm is faster throughout its range at a constant f4 and doesn't have as much distortion exaggeration at 7mm. The lens is very sharp, focuses fast, and has exceptional near focusing. If you are creative with manual near focusing, you can get nice shallow DOF shots at f4, even at full wide 7mm. I've heard people comment that they have ended up n... Show More

Awesome lens

Nov 24, 2010

I use this lens about 60% of the time now. It is perfect for landscape work. The build quality is excellent and relative to APS-C DSLRs it is light and compact. I use it on a GF1 and GH1 and am more than happy with the picture quality. My only negative is that the lens does not have OIS. For a lens in this price range that is disappointing. For most of my shots I use a tripod and remote release so lack of OIS does not affect me as much as it might for handheld work.

This lens is expensive, but that's probably because I got it within its release year. However, after playing around with it for a bit, I have to say the price is well justified. For starter, this lens feels solid on the hand, it's compact, and has lots of potentials. I still have so much to learn about ultra wide angle photography, but at least with the lightweight (compare to Nikon D80 at similar setup), I get to enjoy take more photos more ofte... Show More
