I'm in love w/a 3-legged piece of metal
Holy Guacamole. So many good things about this tripod. You can get crazy low angles, 360 horizontal sweeping shots, and YES those rubber grips on the legs really do make it a heck of a lot nicer in the cold as trivial as they may sound. There's a clip for a sandbag/weight, a tool that clips onto the legs should the fasteners come loose, honestly you can't go wrong with this bad boy. Was kinda bummed it didn't come with a bag or strap, but other t... Show More

Easy to Use System ...
This pan and tilt head is amazingly easy to use and makes minute adjustments a breeze! With the friction knobs, you can adjust the friction to your taste and feel. The pull out adjustment handles are really smooth and accurate for adjustments. Combined with the friction knob your adjustments will be spot on. It looks heavy, but I found it easy to handle and install. The quick release system works fine. Another great feature is that the handles ca... Show More

Great replacement for me
This replaces a damaged carbon fiber tripod I bought years ago that was a compromise in both size and weight for use while hiking. It is much taller and perfect for my height. I have found it to be very sturdy, even in breezy conditions. Yes, I wish I had the money for one made of carbon fiber, but my hikes are fewer and shorter, so this one works. One complaint I do have about it, though, is that there is no rubber washer, 'O' ring, or something... Show More

Leg fell off while using.
I've had this tripod and have used it regularly for a couple years. On my last job I lifted the tripod up and knew that it felt strange when I tried to set it down for my next shot. Luckily I looked down and saw one of the legs angled out where there is not supposed to be a bend just before the whole leg just fell on the floor and pieces scattered about. Luckily I was still holding onto it and my camera didn't smash to the ground with it. I've ha... Show More

First class tripod
I have had this tripod for about a month and a half. I mostly use it for wildlife photography with a Canon 7D and Canon EF400 f5.6 L. The Sunpack tripod I had used previously was too flimsy for this combination and when the head broke off, I decided to follow the advice that professional wildlife photographers give, to not go cheap on your tripod. This tripod compared to my previous one is like bolting my camera to a block of granite instead of a... Show More

Buy the aluminum version (at least for video)
I own a number of manfrotto tripods and light stands.. they are decent quality for a decent price. This tripod is fine... but nothing more than fine. I own the aluminum version (2 actually) and with a light manfrotto fluid head for video on I honestly can't tell a difference in weight. It is certainly lighter... if I were to weigh them with a scale. However, I don't notice any real difference carrying them and working with them side by side all d... Show More

Outstanding Quality
I needed a tripod that could easily handle my Canon 5D MkIII with a 400mm lens and sometimes a teleconverter. The Manfrotto MT 190XPRO3 is now paired with a MH054MO-Q5 ball head and the combination is rock solid at all angles. Speaking of angles the legs have 4 angles of spread and all are stable. The leg locks are quick and easy. The center column moves to a horizontal position with only a few moves. The level can be moved 360 degrees and the tr... Show More

A quality head
I bought this head as a package with a Manfrotto tripod. It is very well suited for the tripod. I was impressed with the assistance from the B&H Photo sales staff concerning this selection. For my camera useage, this head has much to brag about and nothing to be sorry for. The retractable handles are a plus for easy storage. It is easy to use and has all of the flexability that you could ask for. The head motions are smooth and the lockdowns are ... Show More

Great tripod for long range shooting
Purchased the MT055XPRO3 tripod for a stable platform for my D300s with a Sigma 50-500mm lens. It does a very good job of keeping the shooting platform very steady. Coupled with the 498RC4 ball head I have never had a better combination for telephoto shooting. The tripod legs are east to adjust to any terain and lock tight quickly. The center pole adjusts quickly and smoothly also. I can't find anything wrong with the tripod except it is a little... Show More

Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 ALUM TRIPOD/STAND ALONE HEAD
Its been a long time since I bought a tripod and the good one I had broke. I bought a cheaper one and it looked ok but just couldnt handle the usage. I had looked at other Manfrotto models and was less than impressed. In one store the leg fell of one when I picked it up. I still placed the order for the new tripod and all I can say is there is a big difference! The MT055Pro3 is really really nice. The head is awesome too. Its not for everyone and you dont want to travel with this thing but if you shoot table top work and tether your camera it is great for a small setup. It is rather heavy LOL!

Excellent panning tool
I use this head mostly during airshows with my long lenses (+300mm) when I need quick panning capability. Typical Manfrotto build quality is excellent, and provides a sturdy platform for my Sigma 50-500 superzoom--which is truly a heavy lens. One day, though, Manfrotto will have the vision to make a hybrid head; one that adds the micro adjustment qualities of their 410 mini-gearhead into the 808RC4. I already do this by simply mounting a 410 on top of the 808. It's a heavy setup, but it really does the job of swiftly spotting and acquiring far off, fast moving subjects like aircraft.

Sturdy but not heavy
I had been using a different brand that I used for traveling and hiking. After being at Yosemite photographing for several days the tripod I had was not cutting it. A photographer suggested I try this tripod so when I got home I ordered it. I took it out at night in the snow and light sleet and liked how secure and stable it handled. It was easy to use. I havent tried the horizontal feature yet. I am not sure about using it when I hike long distances as it is longer than what I had been using. I might try using a bungee cord to secure it to my backpack. All in all I like this tripod.

A must for anyone copying art.
If you do any art copywork (paintings, drawings, etc.), this tripod and geared head are exactly what you want. The geared head is heavy but well made and allows you to finely tune your composition so that you are completely level to the ground and artwork. Skip the ball head, you'll go nuts. The tripod is very sturdy and will not shake. One nice thing about the 550 besides the ample height for getting centered on large works, is the 90 degree arm that can be used to take photos of smaller art on the ground, thus it functions as a copystand too. Don't hesitate. This is what you want.

Works great!
I have aGitzo carbon fiber tripod with aWimberley Arca-Swiss type WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II that I take out in the field and an aluminum Manfrotto tripod and head that I use in my studio. This plate tightly secures to my camera bodies, has a low profile, has a flat bottom, and works great with both tripod systems. The flat bottom lets the camera sit flat on a surface instead of tipping to one side as I've experienced with other Arca-Swiss plates that I've tried, so it's better and is compatible with both systems. I find it to be a perfect solution for use on these tripod systems.

Sort of Arca Swiss but not really Arca Swiss
I got this ball head to put on my older Manfrotto BeFree tripod because Manfrotto says it is Arca Swiss compatible. I have the Peak Design plate that slips into their Capture Clip which are Arca Swiss compatible, and thought it would be nice to not have to switch between that and the Manfrotto plate all the time. However, it doesn't get locked in, because it is too small for the release system. For an Arca Swiss plate to fit on this head, it needs to be 42mm wide...the PD plate is 38mm. I guess that's why Manfrotto's description says it will work with 'almost all' Arca type plates.

Just Dandy
Super sturdy , a little Heavy , but hey it's aluminium & that's no bad thing right ? Leg locks very secure . The whole thing feels Quality , plenty high enough without the centre column raised , only used it for the 4th July fireworks on Brooklyn Bridge with my EOS 60D and a 24-105 at the moment Would benefit from a better hook on the bottom of the centre column ( to hang a weight from ) rather than the one on the side of the head mount , shame it doesn't come with a tripod bag a come with a tripod bag I got a Ruggard bag from B&H , always worth going to the store and Great prices

Superior quality!!
I am using this Manfrotto head for mainly stills, but have shot some video with it too. This is a very easy to use head, and the hand controls are ergonomic. The build quality and design is amazing, i am sure it will last for years! The only downside I have found is the friction controls are very fine, so you must rotate the knobs many times to find the right amount of friction for your gear. I think this could be a good aspect though for finding just the right balance. Overall I am 100% satisfied and would recommend it to anyone in the market for an affordable 3 way head.

Best tripod Head I've owned
This head is super versatile and super sturdy. I can get my camera at just about every angle and not worry about the tripod leaning or falling over. I really like the handles used for adjustment and the level bubbles. This head is very quick to adjust and can hold the weight of my camera easily. The only complaint I have is that its sometimes difficult to attach the release plate to the head, but I'm sure that will get easier with practice. It locks in nice and tight though once you get it. I don't worry anymore about my camera not being safe and secure. Very trustworthy.

Stable and Smooth!
I love this Manfrotto 3-way Pan/Tilt Head for my tripod. It is very easy for me to work. Its RC4 Quick Release snaps my camera--or heavy lens--in place quickly and easily and securely, and I have no worries that my camera or lens might fall. I wanted a tripod head that would give me confidence for my camera equipment, and I found it! This head is a little heavier than the one I previously had, but it's so much stabler that I really don't mind the bit of extra weight. I have no problem recommending this item to others--it's easy to operate, and a great addition to my gear!

Awesome Tool
I currently own 7 Manfrotto tripods and recently added the new MT055CXPRO4 to my collection. It very solid and holds well at any angle yet it's light weight enough to carry or pack. The new leg clamps work well just like they describe and the new center stem is nice to work with. I mounted the new XPRO 3-way head on this unit but I have the 3 section model with an 055 ball head that works well too. Overall, I am very happy with Manfrotto products and the support from B&H. I'm sure the price could scare a few people away but with a tripod...you truly get what you pay for!

Solid Construction, Ease, and Control
I use this head for both DSLR stills and video work, mostly in the realm of nature and wildlife documentary projects. It holds a good amount of weight and is sturdy enough to hold my heaviest lens and camera combo. The construction is solid and it is easy to use. Great for panning up and down or side to side. It's a nice hybrid, made for both video and photo. Only downside is that it is not great for panning diagonally, but otherwise a great purchase at a fair price. I actually prefer this pan-head to any ballhead I've ever used. The quick release is a very nice feature.

Great for a beginner
This was my first tripod purchase and first time ever using a tripod! The functions are intuitive and there are a lot of helpful videos online that show you all the functions too. I will say that the 3-way head was initially bit difficult to figure out. But again, thats because Im a total beginner. However, after about an hour of practice (attaching my phone using a clamp and telling myself to point the camera in different directions and certain angles), maneuvering the head in the intended way became a lot easier. Do be aware that this kit doesnt come with a bag!

Solid and Precise
Use primarily for still life macro work and its great! Easily holds my 70D, macro lens, ring light, and focus rail. The horizontal column feature is neat, but needs to be counter balanced with the macro setup on it and fully extended. Not a big deal as most shots dont require full extension. Tripod is very stable, easy to adjust, and like the rubberized leg grips. The geared head is amazing. Used in conjunction with a focus rail it allows for very precise control during macro shooting. Really fantastic. Quality pieces right here and very happy I invested in them.

Light and strong
Mainly used in the field for landscape shooting paired with a RRS Bh-40 head. The extendable center column helps when you have to stand significantly above the tripod feet (eg when standing on a rock in a stream with the tripod feet in the water). The ability to use the center column horizontally is not something for which I've ever felt the need. But, it doesn't get in the way if you don't use it. While not a super featherweight, it does not add significant weight to the pack and is easy to carry in hand or over the shoulder and still locks into a solid base.
