Manfrotto MH293D3-Q2 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate

UPC's:
I MADE A GREAT CHOICE
I bought this pan-tilt head to fit on to my Manfrotto 190go carbon tripod and am so glad that I made this choice. It is easy to adjust and keeps the camera locked in. The two long handles are telescoping making it easier to fit into a bag. However, they do not fold down. The two dials are for adjusting the tension which work really great, and once they are adjusted, you dont need to touch them again. It is a little heavier and beefier than a ball... Show More

Great Tripod! - TERRIBLE BAG
I am a freelance commercial photographer and bought this tripod/head combo to be able to help with fine adjustments in furniture photography, architectural photography, etc. The tripod and head are exactly what I wanted and work perfectly. The only two accessories I like are the extra QR plate and the rocks bag (since there is no weight hook from the center column). The bag, however was a pitiful excuse for a bag in this accessory kit. The next t... Show More

Nice versatile pod.
I have had my MT055xpro3 tripod for a couple weeks now and have put it to some good use on recent outings to Yellowstone NP. It's a sturdy mount and has no problem handling the weight of my 7D MkII w/ 150-600mm lens. Set up and takedown is super fast compared to my other tripod with the twist type leg adjusters. Plus it is way more versatile with the 90* adjustable center pole and multi angle leg adjustment. You can adjust this pod so as your cam... Show More

Good tripod, poor response from Manfrotto if problems
This is a great tripod. It had everything I wanted. Short enough to fit in my checked luggage, light enough to carry around, tall enough for me (6ft tall+). Only, the second time I pulled the center column up, the plastic rotator collar snapped. It still works, but it is hard to put back to the vertical position. I would have returned this tripod to BH, but it looked like a part that could be replaced fairly easily, so I tried going through Manfr... Show More

Great Ballhead for a Mirrorless or DSLR Camera.
My first ballhead I have personally own. I prefer using tripod heads with large plates due to videos I film. Since I am a first time user, I liked how easy it was to use and the tension it offers from the swivel to the adjust getting precise detailed. My only problem is that you need to press a button to release a second trigger to let the quick release plate go. I would recommend them looking over this for a simple way. It took countless times... It was better than the carbon fiber version
I give this five stars even though I sold it, because in hindsight, that was a mistake. I wanted to lighten my load, so I sold this and bought the carbon fiber version. The weight is an improvement on the carbon fiber, but in real estate shoots, I'm frequently opening and closing the last sections of legs. With the aluminum one, the legs fell out by themselves when I popped the latch. On this one, they aren't heavy enough, so I have to pull them ... Show More

Pleased.with the purchase
I am not sure if everone would be comfortable with its weight, especially on a mountainous trek. I use the tripod for travel and for landscape phtography, which of course I do when I travel. The point is that it is sturdy enough for everyday use and compact enough for travel. It locks your camera and tele lens in place, as long as you do not go much beyond the 17lb. capacity. It can be prepared for shooting in a jiffy, can get reasonably high and... Show More

Excellent Tripod
Use this for landscapes/studio. I've paired legs with 055 Mag Ball Head RC4 Quick Release for an extra sturdy combo. I was a little worried as when I first opened and extended the legs, they wouldn't remain tight when clamped. However, they provide a tightner tool (which attaches to the leg) to tighten down any clamps that need it. So make a mental note that tripod will probably will need adjusting first off. I'm 6'-2 tall. I extend the legs all ... Show More

Rock Solid, Sexy-Looking Tripod
The rock-solid stability performance of this tripod is backed up by its awesome visual design. Used under windy conditions (25mph gusts), 10s exposures, legs fully extended, center column fully retracted, without any discernible image blur. The rubberized leg warmers are durable. They serve their purpose well, and even if they didn't, they just look cool and add to an already outstanding visual design. The newly designed leg locks work extremely ... Show More

Solid, sturdy & hefty!
This is a quality upgrade for me from a lightweight tripod. The build quality is quite good, But the expletives will fly if you have to carry it any distance. I find the leg locks are not finger eaters as some have mentioned but you have to switch hands to click the last lock which is slightly annoying. Once you have it on location it is a luxurious platform to work from, w/ the 3 way head. Im using it for night photography with the center column... Show More

watch your fingers...
lightweight, but stable. Has a place on the collar to hang something on (I bring a mesh shopping bag to hang on it with whatever in it to weigh it down in windy conditions). The legs have clasps or as Manfrotto calls it: QPL leg locking system. You will get a finger caught in it a few times until you start to respect them, but, they are good, tight and firm (and noisy if you let them snap). I have used the centerpost's 90 Degree Centre column mec... Show More

It has good and bad features
Rock solid tripod but it has several issues that need to be addressed. It uses a spring retaining clip washer to keep the center section from pulling out of the tripod. The retaining clip has fallen off and the whole center section then pulls away from the legs. It has happened twice now, once in the dark in Iceland and yesterday again in a studio. Fortunately I was able to find the clip both times and reassemble the tripod. I am considering repl... Show More

Love this new 496 Ball Head! ...
Several features are much better than previous models! First, the 200PL-PRO plate that accompany's this ball head will fit both 200PL mounts as well as Arca Swiss mounts, making the need to replace my 200PL plates I have on all cameras & lens collar rings not necessary! If I ever switch to Arca Swiss mountings on any ball heads, these plates will mount to them! ... Second, the friction adjustment for the ball head is now within the ball head lo... Show More

Well worth it
I've owned a couple of lesser tripods for years. Had myself convinced I could hand hold any photograph I needed to take. So, those tripods seldom got used. I finally got it through my head that if I wanted my wildlife photos to be anywhere nearly as good as my friends I needed to start using a tripod for all the reasons anybody SHOULD use a tripod. Decided on the Manfrotto after reviewing others comments and evaluating my desire to spend big buck... Show More

So far, I like it.
I have used the tripod only one weekend so far, but I like it. Have not used the folding arm function, but tried it in the living room. I was concerned whether I could adjust the camera to a horizontal view using the arm where the camera will be vertical in its regular position. With a pan/tilt head, looked like I could get any position I desired. I have had several Manfrotto tripods and the one beef I've had is there was no way to tighten the le... Show More

Very sturdy tripod!
Im an architectural Photographer and I needed a stable tripod that wouldn't move at all during my shoots as i need to layer so many images together for a final image. Big improvement over last generation
I owned the previous iteration of this tripod, the xprob, and lost it in the field. I was never quite satisfied w the xprob, it had all the bells and whistles but it wasn't as rigid as my 10 year old manfrotto tripod. The 055xpro3 is a true improvement in the area that is of quintessential importance, it holds my heavy gear still when I'm having a moment with the light and my subject matter. It is really rigid. Light and sturdy
This is easily the best tripod I've ever had. It is light, and very sturdy. Even fully extended, it doesn't fell all vulnerable and spindly like others do. Solid stuff, and the quality is self evident. I bought mine to anchor an Edelkrone Pro Med slider, which can hold 30lbs (14kg), but only if mounted on a solid tripod... since it moves 18 (500mm), it could easily tip over if you had a tripod that is too small, or too weak. This is a sturdy and compact tripod head. I originally bought it to replace the head on a 30-year-old tripod for which the old head's quick-mount plate had long ago disappeared and is no longer made. High Quality
These items - the tripod and the head - are nicely made high quality items made in Italy. All the parts work smoothly. The tripod is stable. The weight capacity is fairly high. The center column can be moved to horizontal which is useful for straight on overhead shots of objects. The feet do seem to slip fairly easily on a smooth, hard floor. This isn't really a problem, but if the feet were a softer rubber or polymer of some type, it might be an... Show More

Only pans 30 degrees up
I liked this head in most ways, but I am selling it after owning it only a few months. I shoot spherical stitches, which require pointing the camera straight up. This lens only allows the camera to point up 30 degrees! Another very small gripe, one I could live with, is the locks tighten down funny. They knobs start to feel tighter before the actual locking happens, this requires you to tighten the knobs down pretty hard to get a sold lock. It's ... Show More

Great tripod (with a couple of issues...)
I love this tripod! The levelers for each axis are wonderful and the tripod can be adjusted to fit in just about any configuration you need! I've used it on rocks, right near the ground, and on a very steep hill with no problems. The issues: Be careful extending the legs. If you just let them drop, they will occasionally drop right off! I don't know if I just got a loose bolt or what... Also, be careful when you fully extend the center pole. I pu... Show More

Okay, Im 6'2'' and this tripod comes up to me without having to hunch over. Love it! But if I want to lie on the ground and shoot this tripod can do it as well. The (4) that's right 4 bubble levels insures that anyone can take a level shot. Has a hook for hanging a sandbag if needed. For some heavier lenses in windy areas that hook will come in good use. Great tripod! I've owned two cheap tripods over the years that eventually break, but this Manfrotto feels solid! At 7.7 lbs its light enough to hike with but sturdy enough for a Canon C100 Mark II with a Canon 100-400 mm telephoto lens. The head is more for photos, but I think it does fine for video too.
