Fantastic head
This is the 3rd head I have owned, and by far the best. I don't think the product literature does it justice. I was a little disappointed that the ball heads were out of my price range, but now I am glad I got this one instead. When you loosen up all the adjustments, this head can act a lot like a ball head, and you tighten down one axis at a time. Each of the axis controls are easy to use, and most importantly, they do not drift after you tighte... Show More

outstanding tripod
I just recently purchased this tripod primarily for the quick flip mechanism on the center column that allows easy close-to-ground camera placement. It replaces my older magnezium fiber Manfrotto 055 series tripod. I use it with a Gitzo ball head, and an Acratech leveling head. I spent two days photographing on the Pacific Northwest Coast and at Mt. Rainier NP. I LOVE this tripod. It is light, very sturdy, and very quick to set up. I LOVE th... Show More

good while it lasted.
I am a amature photographer who focuses on wildlife, mainly birds. I typically used the tripod with a nikon D300 with Tamron 200-500mm and a Manfrotto 393 Heavy Telephoto Lens Support. The weight of these items falls well within the 19.8 capacity listed on this site. The tripod functioned very well with limited use for the first year I owned it.However while on vacation the piece that expands to hold the head mount to the top portion of the cente... Show More

Not a Great Start
I bought this rig less than a month ago, and have used it on several occasions with great success. I've set it up as a normal tripod, and as a low level tripod, using the 90 degree arm. But I was stunned when I was setting up for a recent outdoors macro shoot; the center mast completely separated from the legs, and parts flew everywhere! I managed to locate all the parts for the central collar in the surrounding grass (there are only 4, though on... Show More

Good head at a good proce
I bought this head to support my Calumet C1 8x10 camera. I have since sold the 8x10 but sill have my Pentax 6x7 and Bronica and it handles these like a champ. Both are heavy cameras and I need a head tripod and head to handle this weight and this one works well. Some issues I have with this head are: The quick connect plate is good but you better have a coin in your pocket in order to attach the plate to the camera. Once attached it holds very we... Solid Tripod, High Quality
I ordered this tripod for use in landscape photography, as it appeared quite durable, was a well known brand, and was priced right. When it arrived, I was more than pleased with my choice. The build quality is nicer than any tripod I had used before. The leg locks are tight and adjustment is easy. I elected to use a Markins Q3i Emille Ballhead, which fit these legs perfectly. I was shocked to see how much flexibility this tripod offers - you can ... Show More

Great tripod head!
Bought this to replace the ball head on my Giotto. The ball head just did not work well with my Nikon D750 with heavy lens. This new pan/tilt head is just right. It's very well built, actually better than I had expected. The friction knobs allow you to precisely dial in the amount of resistance you desire and the handles work well in controlling the pan/tilt of the camera. I seem to be able to move the camera into position and lock it down withou... Show More

Not Great for Small Hands
After reading so many amazing reviews, I bought this head for food and landscapes. After shooting with it on a 3 day magazine shoot (all food) I found that it's not very fluid when switching from portrait to landscape and very difficult to tighten. If you have small hands and/or do not have a strong grip then I woud suggest researching other tripods heads. I started getting blisters (also achey fingers and wrists) after day one and noticed the tr... Show More

Strong, cool features, small faults.
I purchased this tripod with Manfrotto's new 3-way head and I love it despite a couple small issues. When adjusting the Q90 center post to the horizontal position you MUST be very mindful of the C ring. This ring acts as a stopper for the clamshell sleeve that slides up before the center post will rotate 90 degrees. If this ring becomes dislodged from its factory position the clamshell sleeve will slide completely out and come apart. I was shooti... Show More

Dont let the aluminum fool you...
Being a nature and wildlife photographer, I wanted something that was light weight and easy to use. I also had a budet to stick to and the carbon fibre model was out of my price range. For years I had been using (and replacing almost annually) what ever was the cheapest tripod at @ or @. This time I decided to get a pro level tripod and Manfrotto delivered the goods!Even though its aluminum, it comes in at about 4lbs, but when shoot with my Tamro... Show More

Fantastic Head; Only Two Small Gripes
I have had this head on my Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 tripod for several months, and it is excellent. The friction adjustments allow you to fine-tune just how much resistance there is in the head. It is extremely stable even with a Canon EOS 80D, and a Canon 100 - 400 L series telephoto mounted. Manfrotto thought their engineering out with this one. The handles retract to make it more compact for travel, and the lever that holds the mount stays locked... Show More

Head Up!
I have been using a Manfrotto tripod since the first year of the millenium. My tripod is a special serie built for the company 15th year anniversary. The head was a joystick ball serie and needed to be replaced while the other parts of the tripod are still in good health and kicking. The tripod was bought in Italy, where I was living at that time. So my problem was about the size of the 3/8 screw that connects the head to the tripod, cause we use... Show More

Something Besides A Ball Head
There is an endless list of ball heads for tripods but I find them awkward for my uses I like to precisely control my camera on a axis and lock it down then do the same with the next axis of movement. That is difficult to do with a ball head. This head is well made, has good adjustments for locking setting that even handle my large heavy super tele zoom. No bobble or wobble. It has proven to be rock solid also in using it for macro photography. I... Show More

Excellent Addition
Excellent stability and ease of use. I had an older aluminum 055 with the screw type leg locks and the flips locks are a huge time saver. I went with the 4 section since I travel often and this is more compact than the 3 section. The level indicator rotates which comes in handy when setting up for pano shots. I use a 410 gear head combined with this tripod works well for me. Very stable and precise for architecture. This is my forth tripod and ho... Show More

Advanced mechanical engineering.
Compared to my old Manfrotto 3021 from the 90s, this thing is lightyears ahead. So many countless improvements. This is the tallest 055 model I believe. Got the aluminum because I would not carry a tripod of this size around anyway and with a tiny half body dslr or mirrorless in the studio, the weight of it feels good and sturdy. The real achievement here is the horizontal column. By far the most convertible and quickest to deploy compared to oth... Show More

A Great Tripod for long zooms
I have a long zoom lens that I bought for my Pentax camera. The combined weight was to much for my Slik U212 that I have loved and used for years. So this combined with the Monfrotto 3 axis head was a perfect replacement. It is rock solid stead, has many features for a variety of uses, is easy to use. It is a little heavier than My U 212 so that is something to get use to. I do a wide array of photography so the ability to get as low as 3 inches ... Show More

This is my primary tripod for architectural and studio product photography. It is very beefy and solid. It's great for long exposure and multiple exposure work. Worlds ahead of a ball head
I shoot mostly real estate photos with this unit. I find my work goes much quicker and smoother using this unit than a ball head unit. The mechanism allows me to get level shots every time with a lot less hassle than ball units. That said I do notice that there is a slight discrepancy between the horizontal level on this head and the horizon line on my Nikon D7200 so I tend to use the camera's horizon in conjunction with this unit's vertical leve... I bought this head to go on my new Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod legs. The head is a little heavy, but I guess that's the trade-off for a head that will firmly support a heavier camera and lens. Photo tripod, not the best for video
I watched a couple of reviews on YouTube before buying that tripod. It seemed to be just the right tripod for my needs and with a fair price. It seems tough made (I guess it really is), but there are some flaws, if you are expecting to use it for video. The biggest problem, I think, is that the middle section which allows you to lift your tripod's head a bit more than the actual tripod makes it impossible to balance the tripod's head to level it,...
