Excellent Monopod for the Price

May 22, 2017

I own an Oben tripod and a couple of Open ball heads that I have been very pleased with. So, when I was shopping for a monopod, I considered several other brands but ultimately decided to try the Open monopod because of my experiences with Open products. Well, I'm not disappointed in my decision! This is a quality product for a fantastic price. It is very sturdy while holding my Canon 7D and lenses. Even though it is substantial in size when comp... Plate snapped right of the leg!

Mar 28, 2017

I had this monopod for about 6 months already, and it was great. Very sturdy and did the job well. I load it with about 5lb, which is well under the 26.4lb load capacity. A couple of days ago while using it to shoot a wedding, the plate just snapped right off of its leg. The part of the plate which connects to the leg just snapped! I was very lucky that my equipment didn't come flying down. On top of that, Oben would not accept responsibility to ... Show More

Sturdy frame and comfortable grip

Feb 11, 2013

I used this monopod for the first time on one of my wedding shoots. Forget the tripod when you have to move in a hurry to capture another critical angle that requires a solid, steady and lengthy shot. I moved quicky to where I needed to be, and set up in a nano-minute with this unit compared to the tripod. I even rested it on a chair or table with super results. The grip is meat and potatoes with a sure, solid secure feeling that you wont lose yo... Show More

Surprise Support

Jan 2, 2015

I had received this item in a bundle for my Canon 6D. I had previously owned a tripod that a monopod section, specifically the SIrui N-2204.Comparing this monopod to the Sirui was that it had a larger height than the Sirui and it had a thick housing for support. The release buttons to extend the monopod were fast and easy. I am 5'11 and this was a great height for me without having to bend over to look through my camera. The only downside I could see was its weight compared to my tripod and I prefer the idea of one tripod/monopod for travel than caring multiple support tripod and a monopod.

Beats using a tripod

Apr 8, 2014

When upgrading to a longer zoom lens for sports pics I knew a support would be necessary. First I tried a tripod but that was slow and balky so I decided to shop for a monopod. I chose the Oben since it was advertised as being strong and lightweight. Well, it lives up to the reputation. It is lightweight as I hardly notice it with a longer lens. The flip locks are easy to use and hold the sections firmly enough that I can apply downward force on it. The lens mounting collar held onto the stud like glue. I give it only four stars because five would mean it was perfect and nothing is.

Good sturdy 'pod.

Apr 6, 2014

Good sturdy monopod, with reversible threads that will allow you to either attach a tripod head, or simply screw it directly into your camera. I'd been using another monopod that didn't have this feature, with a ballhead attached, which really isn't necessary for a monopod. Kind of nice now to be able to screw my camera body or tripod collar directly to it without the hassle of a ballhead. The legs lock very securely, so it's no problem using a heavy SLR with a big lens on it. The diameter is pretty big around, so smaller hands may find it harder to hang on to. Works great for me.

Sturdy and Quality Build

Aug 6, 2015

I was surprised after ordering this at how sturdy it holds my Canon 5d Mark iii. The diameter is much larger than anticipated leading to no flex when fully extended and the grip feels natural in your hand. The 4 section extension work great and when fully extended place the camera well above my eye height(I'm 6' tall). Would recommend this for anyone needing stability, especially in an environment where tripods aren't an option. Also while on a shoot I had some unfortunate interaction with a bees nest, this monopod makes an excellent bat to swat a swam of insect as well!

Light and Sturdy

Great monopod for large cameras and lenses. Very sturdy and compact. It allows for quick height adjustments and the clamping system is quick and easy to use. I have been using it to take photo's of my sons little league games and share the picture taking duty with my daughter. The quick height adjustment changes are easy and quick, so it makes it easy to share the camera and get great shots. I would purchase this again and have recommended it to other parents on the team. I would give it 5 stars if it included the 90 degree pivot, but that has to be purchased separately.

Irritating to use

Jul 18, 2017

I really tried to like this monopod. Used it for indoor concert lighting but by the third time I was fed up. While monopod is heavy I expected it to be more sturdy and not rock back and forth like monopods without feet. Found I had to keep one foot on a leg to sturdy better but didn't really work. Loved the feature of twisting the mini-legs inside the monopod, turning them around to use as feet. But while doing so those little mini-legs will pinch your hand so hard and not let go if not careful. It is a very nice monopod but my experience was not good and returning it.

good for general use, vacation, hard to reach places.

Dec 18, 2018

The Monopod is sturdy enough to be used as an extension pole for those hold over the side of a cliff shots. Weight is a little more than expected, but thats because of tripod legs, but its fine overall. There is a little bounce / movement when used as a tripod stand, the legs are rubber tipped, and an O-ring is in the screw mounting base. While this allows for minimal smooth movement in video mode, if using for multiple shots, or HDR shots, using an external trigger can fix that. Clamping pressure can be adjusted with an Allen Key. Is it good value for money, yes.

Get Your Hands Off

Apr 14, 2016

I didn't expect the Oben Monopod to be as useful as it was to me. It was included as a free item bundled with the Canon 5D mkiii I purchased and I was just excited to try it out. It wasn't until I was shooting a live band at a venue that I realized how useful it was. Simply getting my hands off the body of the camera relieved so much. I was able to easily move around and use angles that were comfortable and intuitive to shoot from. The extendibility proved itself as I was able to tower over and include the audience watching the band from the back of the venue.

Quick and easy support

Sep 27, 2015

For years I have done much of my long lens work hand held. I have found it increasingly difficult to hold my 500mm lens steady. This is a quick and easy solution. Most of my work is low angle and I use the ground for support. However, at standing, this monopod takes the weight and allows me the freedom to continue to move fairly rapidly. The legs extend quickly and easily and lock into position with a simple flip of the lock. I have only used it a few time but it seems to be quite capable. For landscape I will still go with 3 legs but for quick action...

I would buy this again!

May 18, 2015

I have not used this product yet but from the outside it looks to be very sturdy and well built. The clasps are easy to open, the foam grip is a lifesaver when you are going to be holding onto the monopod for extended periods of time, and the wrist strap is handy to make sure that if you let go of the monopod your camera doesn't fall. There is even a 3/4 screw on the head so you can mount and pan/tilt head or a fluid head. As a filmmaker this will come in handy a lot! Overall, I think this is a very well built monopod and I would recommend it to anyone.

Competent monopod

Feb 4, 2014

This monopod was bundled as part of a Nikon D800 package. I've examined the monopod but haven't put it to use at this time. It opens to a nice height and seems to be generally well made. My only concern would be the durability of the snap locks on each section. I have an old Manfrotto (Bogen) monopod that has served me well over the years. The Oben appears to be almost as well made and actually offers several advantages over my older monopod. The Oben does come with a five year warranty so the manufacturer must have some confidence in their durability.

Love it, Love it!

May 19, 2015

I have been taking photos of sports events for years (especially soccer and football). My old monopod lasted years and was a bit worried about getting a new one when it broke because I loved it so much. Settled on the Oben ACM-2400 and love it even more. It is very stable, great construction, past reviews gave hints when I first received it (swap the screw around, screw cover, etc.), and would highly recommend it. For the price it can not be beat and feels like an expensive model. Great carry bag as well since I travel quite a bit with my equipment.

Solid

Dec 10, 2012

Pros: Very well made using high quality material. Sturdy. The built in 3 'tripod' legs are quite strong, but a little wobbly, probably best used on a solid flat surface like concrete. I don't think it would collapse and fall, but any sort of breeze would render it less than steady. Cons: I would have liked to be able to remove the 3 inbuilt steel tripod legs to reduce weight and still have a base to put on the ground, not the hole that it leaves when the legs are removed. Pretty heavy to cart around, see above comment. All in all, not a bad product.

Improve your photos and take the weight off yourself

Sep 17, 2015

This product has been great so far. It is small and lightweight, however can also extend out tall enough to shoot over a fence. My sports pictures have turned out much sharper since I purchased this monopod. What I really enjoy is not having to worry about holding my camera, this really takes the weight off your hands and neck (if you wear your camera strap). I have my camera mounted to a quick release assembly and have the ability to take it off and on the monopod very quickly. This monopod also came with an affordable price. I have no complaints.

Awesome sturdiness built in lightweight support.

Oct 26, 2015

I broke my other monopod and after looking at everyone in my price range, I decided on this one. For less money and more features than the other brands I bought the Oben model. I choose it because of the four sections, which meant shorter length, plus it's very lightweight, but built out of heavy aluminum, it's still very strong. I like that the locking tabs adjust with an Allen wrench, which is included. Overall, the best bang for the buck over the 25-30 other models that I checked out. Big name brands are not always better!

Sturdy Support

Jun 1, 2014

Received this as part of a kit with my 5DMKIII, otherwise I probably would not have bought a monopod. BUT, from the use I've gotten out of it I'd say it's definitely come in handy in situations where I need some extra steady support where a tripod just wouldn't be possible to use. This Oben is pretty sturdy, probably more so that I'll ever require of it. Definitely appreciate that it comes with a little allen wrench (and clippy holder to attach to the monopod) to tighten up any of the screws should they loosen in the future.

As a lifelong photographer I was dismayed when the onset of Parkinsons made it difficult to keep the camera steady. I control the tremors with medication and the rest is up to the Oben 2400 monopad It is very well made, easy to use, sturdy and light enough to take with me most of the time.I use it with an Olympus E-5 and a variety of substantial Olympus lenses plus an Oben quick release ball head (BA -00) My landscapes and nature close-ups are as clear as ever. Thank you Oben and thank you B&H for your years of service to me.

Monopod

Jun 1, 2014

I use this with a 150-500 lens that is to heavy to hand hold for extended periods of time. So far this has been useful in taking some steady shots. I don't know that this will completely replace my tripod, but is def useful for shots low to the ground. Has a nifty clip that you can use to carry hands free. Its light weight, short and very easy to transport.Need to invest in a ball head to get better use from it for shots standing up or above eye level. Def. recommend getting the quick release to help save time and effort.

I needed to use the removable legs this morning as I was snapping my grandchildren's Christmas play in church and kept the camera on the tripod during the service. It was stable both when it was at rest and when I snapped photos, even when I tilted the camera to the vertical position. It took up very little space and I was able to remain in my pew. After the service, I slipped it away into its case quickly. I was impressed, too, with the hex thingy in its own holder that enabled me to loosen the hex nut on a tight clamp.

Lightweight and Functional

Dec 18, 2013

This is a lightweight monopod that can easily be taken on hikes. It supports full size DSLRs. The biggest problem I found was with the adjustable height latches. It is very easy to pinch your skin when opening the latches. I have several Manfrotto tripods with similar latches and have never gotten pinched. However this Oben monopod has pinched my skin every time I've used it. Since I got it free with my camera purchase, I'll use it. But if I were to buy a new monopod, I would probably choose a Manfrotto.

Not for me.

Dec 12, 2017

I was very surprised on its size and weight. I wasnt expecting something so bulky and heavy. Guess I should have read the tech specs because it also is not compatible with my GX85. Returning the product, rethinking whether I want a pole/tripod at all, and reading the tech specs moving forward. Even if it was compatible Im still disappointed on its size and weight. I tend to keep everything to a minimum (weight wise)hence the reason I chose to go with a monopod but you cant lose this thing in your bag.
