Worth every penny

Dec 16, 2019

Mounted my Canon M50 with the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens on this and with my hands on it it did not slide down while video taping. Nice build and love that I can clip it to my belt and it does not interfere with my walking.

3 Tries - All Fails

Sep 2, 2019

While I really like the mini-leg feature, the build quality on this monopod seems to be severely lacking. I have now had 3 different versions of this item, and the same problem keeps recurring. Namely, the thee stages keep falling apart. Release a clamp to extend a stage and the whole leg slides out. The first one I had developed this problem in the first couple of months. Under warranty from B&H, it was replaced at no charge. The second versio... Show More

good for general use, vacation, hard to reach places.

The Monopod is sturdy enough to be used as an extension pole for those hold over the side of a cliff shots. Weight is a little more than expected, but thats because of tripod legs, but its fine overall. There is a little bounce / movement when used as a tripod stand, the legs are rubber tipped, and an O-ring is in the screw mounting base. While this allows for minimal smooth movement in video mode, if using for multiple shots, or HDR shots, using an external trigger can fix that. Clamping pressure can be adjusted with an Allen Key. Is it good value for money, yes.

Very Handy!

Aug 27, 2018

Since I received my Oben self-standing Monopod, it came in handy when I didn't want to use my tripod! The legs that came with it, works wonders. It's sturdy, held my Nikon d3400 & Canon T7i without issue, stayed in place. Great for an extra when working with two cameras. I would recommend this to those who shoot on the go, and in need of convenience when shooting. Would buy another!

Quite a Substantial monopod

Stepping up from a point and shoot size monopod, that has a broken clamp, this is going to be great for the D500 and 80-400.

Not for me.

Dec 12, 2017

I was very surprised on its size and weight. I wasnt expecting something so bulky and heavy. Guess I should have read the tech specs because it also is not compatible with my GX85. Returning the product, rethinking whether I want a pole/tripod at all, and reading the tech specs moving forward. Even if it was compatible Im still disappointed on its size and weight. I tend to keep everything to a minimum (weight wise)hence the reason I chose to go with a monopod but you cant lose this thing in your bag.

A handy support for your camera.

Dec 12, 2017

This is a nice little gadget. It's much more robust than you might think. It has clamps to hold the sections. I prefer collets, but these clamps seem secure, and there is a little Allen wrench attached in a handy spot to tighten things up if they get loose. The foam grip at the top is very nice, and will help keep your hands warm when it is cold. The screw on the top is reversible so you have a 3/8 or a 1/4 attachment. You could attach a camera d... Solid Monopod

Well worth the money. Solid build, quick action on the stages allows for fast, easy setup. Lightweight and rugged, can't go wrong with this for a low-priced monopod.

A Canon devotee for life

These are initial impressions of the Canon5D Mark III and 24-105 EF L lens kit. It is a solid and impressive handful of hardware and software. Left in A+ scene intelligent auto it is a heavy duty point and shoot. Dive into the 400 page user manual and the options are nearly limitless. The magnesium alloy body is a featherweight. Add a proper Canon L zoom lens and you're talking committed photography. My mega-pixel challenged previous camera is th... Show More

Great Monopod

Jul 24, 2017

This is a great tool when a tripod would be cumbersome to carry around or use in tight spaces. The three stabilizing legs are easy to set up and put away. Takes less than a minute to deal with. The latches are quick and easy to use. Also the extra height is terrific for me when shooting portrait format. The only reason I didn't give this a five star rating is that it's a bit on the heavy side for a monopod. The legs add some weight to the unit.

Irritating to use

Jul 18, 2017

I really tried to like this monopod. Used it for indoor concert lighting but by the third time I was fed up. While monopod is heavy I expected it to be more sturdy and not rock back and forth like monopods without feet. Found I had to keep one foot on a leg to sturdy better but didn't really work. Loved the feature of twisting the mini-legs inside the monopod, turning them around to use as feet. But while doing so those little mini-legs will pinch your hand so hard and not let go if not careful. It is a very nice monopod but my experience was not good and returning it.

Love this monopod!

Jul 14, 2017

B&H included this monopod with the purchase of our 5D Mark iii, and we absolutely love it. The aluminum is light to hold, but built incredibly sturdy and strong. The adjustable sections are easy to open and collapse and the wrench can tighten and loosen the bolts to adjust to your needs! Highly recommend!

Excellent Monopod for the Price

May 22, 2017

I own an Oben tripod and a couple of Open ball heads that I have been very pleased with. So, when I was shopping for a monopod, I considered several other brands but ultimately decided to try the Open monopod because of my experiences with Open products. Well, I'm not disappointed in my decision! This is a quality product for a fantastic price. It is very sturdy while holding my Canon 7D and lenses. Even though it is substantial in size when comp... Have only used this a few times. Seems to be a well made solid monopod. I use it with a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 200-500mm lens. No problem holding the weight. Considering adding a tilt or ball head. Only 4 stars because I cannot assess the durability as yet. That takes extended use.

Really solid product

Apr 28, 2017

This is a really well-built product and working great to steady sports shots with a long lens. Only draw back is a little sway when using the tri-pod legs if it gets bumped, etc. Small complaint for an overall great product.

I wanted something simple that I could easily take almost anywhere. This monopod fits the bill. Added an Oben Qra-R2 quick release assembly with extra mounting plates and I'm good to go. While not entirely effortless, this device does provide some additional stabilization so you can clean up those shaky videos. Add a cell phone attachment and shoot almost like a pro.
