Great Upgrade from 5D Mark III.

Oct 11, 2016

I am an advanced amateur, shooting landscapes, waterfalls, flowers, old cars, and some people shots. I moved up to a full-frame DSLR with the Canon 5D Mark III, bought right after it became available in March 2012. Very pleased with the Mark III, I didn't think I was in the market for a new camera until I saw the Mark IV announcement, watched the B&H-hosted panel discussion of it soon after, and checked whatever reviews and videos I could find. Solid camera, just wish it had a few other features

Nov 8, 2017

I stepped up to this camera from the 7d for my real estate photo and video business. Let me start by saying that I love this camera. Just as the 7d, it is well built and is very reliable. The upgrade in image quality is quite noticeable and the video function is much more robust. However, I gave this camera 4 stars (would have preferred 4.5 stars) instead of 5, not for reliability, but for features I think should have been no brainers to include ... Show More

Incredible bit of hardware that takes gorgeous pictures

Jan 3, 2017

First off: I docked one star because they're not using the latest CF and SD technologies. For a camera in this market segment, at this price, this is, IMHO, and inexcusable omission. Not sure what the technical reason is for this, but it's not like the competition aren't using them. I've been shooting on a 6D which I bought shortly after it came out - must be almost 4 years now. Decided that, despite the gaffe with the storage technologies, there... Show More

A nice update to the 5D Mark III

Sep 22, 2016

I'll start by saying the the 5D Mark III was my favorite camera. Versatile, robust camera. It could take on nearly any task and do it well. I see the 5D Mark IV fulfilling all of those roles and doing it even better. The new sensor is a step forward for the 5D line. My impressions so far is it has better dynamic range, can handle pulling extremes from the darkest shadows and of course at 30mp, more resolution. The dual pixel raw feature, while re... Show More

From a longtime Canon user

Jun 15, 2017

First off let me state that I've been a Canon user and still am. (1DX, 1DX Mark ii, 5D Mark iii) Ive been using Sony A7Rii along with my Canon lineup for weddings as of late. Ive been blown away by the Sony + Zeiss Batis lenses and image quality. I wasn't ready to go full sony at this point but wanted a camera with higher resolution and detail. So I purchased the Mark iv. Heard great things about it so i thought i would give it a go. I must say i... Show More

Fantastic Camera!!!

Feb 22, 2017

I can't rave enough about this camera. If you are a working professional photographer and already invested into the Canon system then look no further because the Canon 5D Mark IV is a wonderful upgrade. The dual pixel auto focus is amazing! You get a touch screen and the screen is sharper then it's predecessor, the camera body is a little lighter then the mark 3, the ISO is much cleaner in high settings and the dynamic range has improved. Very Pleased with New Combo

Feb 24, 2018

I upgraded from a 5D Mark 3 and could not be more pleased. It was a difficult decision because I did not want to get caught up in the need to constantly upgrade equipment, but there are subtle differences which now make me confident that I made the right choice. The physical set up of the new camera is nearly identical to the Mark 3, so the learning curve is very minimal, but there is a learning curve with some additional and much appreciated fe... Another classic in the 5D series

Jul 15, 2017

I take comfort in knowing that every new Canon professional camera is tested by world-class photographers in the rain and cold and mud of the real world before designs are finalized. Canon doesn't ask me to find their bugs. My Canon 5D Mark III worked for 5 years without a glitch. I expect another 5 to 10 trouble-free years. I've only had the Mark IV for a few weeks. But I see no reason why it should be any less reliable. For the Mark IV, Canon d... Show More

I do wish they gave the option for zebras and peaking on it, but I understand why theyre not doing it and thats because it is a stills camera first and foremost. Great Set of New Features - Only 1 Disadvantage !

Sep 20, 2016

If you are here looking at this camera i am SURE you have seen a ton of reviews and YouTube videos about it already, so i will keep this short. The new features are really great, image quality is awesome (and i am comparing with the 5DsR), and 4k MP4 format is a must that's missing. In a bit MORE DETAIL: I had a few Rebels, the 7DII, the 6D and the 5DsR so far. This camera is my new favorite. Sure i miss the 50MP of the DsR sometimes but only whe... Show More

I mostly do corporate photography and video so I was looking for something that did well at both. For photography this is my favorite camera with a perfect balance of resolution and low noise and a perfectly laid out body design and easy quick menus. As a Canon user and owning the 1Ds MKII prior to purchasing the 5D MK IV, this was a bit awkward moving down to the smaller body camera. I purchased the battery grip for the extended battery life and the availability to shoot portrait orientation. People have issues with the camera's video function, but i could care less about the video features and the file sizes it creates. Good camera but only a modest upgrade.

Apr 16, 2019

Bought this to take over as my main body for my six-year-old 5D Mark III and was expecting a significant upgrade, but have been a little underwhelmed. This is a very capable camera, as is the Mark III which has performed well with heavy professional use, primarily commercial, photojournalism and nature / wildlife still photography. I rarely shoot video, so my comments are only photo related. Initial impressions after several jobs and lots of test... Show More

Jan 16, 2019

Okay, so you see the specs and you can find countless Youtube videos comparing image quality and all that, so Ill try to avoid superfluous information. Very first thing I noticed is that this is a beefy camera, it definitely has some weight to it (though I also have a battery grip on mine). For some people this might be a big negative, but personally I love the way it feels. Its purely psychological, I know, but to me it is very satisfying to ho... Show More

Useful new features for stills and makes video practical

Jun 17, 2017

I am very happy with the upgrade from the 5D mark III. My recreational photography has been stills. One part of the reason I shot little video was the lack of good focus tracking in video. I was frequently dissatisfied with my ability to manually pull focus. Usually my attempts at video were not much better overall than video from a cell phone because of focus issues. The DPAF removes the worry. Now videos of grandchildren are a snap. No hassle o... Show More

What 35mm camera has this touch screen, awesome AF? None. This is the 2nd DPAF (dual pixel AF) that has a full frame sensor, the 1st coming out a few months ago the flagship 1dx2 with only 20 mp so this 5D4 is better at stills. The 1dx2, having only 20mp means the center 4k pixels is a larger space, meaning better control over DOF (Depth of field) than the 5D4 which has to use a smaller center 4k area since there are 50% more pixels on the sensor... I upgraded from a 5D MkII, so I benefit from two generations of improvements. That said, it doesn't seem way better, particularly for the price. So negatives: adobe didn't have dual pixel support ready, and in fact Photoshop CC couldn't even open the non-dual pixel RAW files. Why did I rush? The canon software isn't that great, and the dual pixel adjustments are very underwhelming and to me, not worth that huge increase in file size. There is pot... Show More

For me they were too huge features that made it worthwhile to upgrade from my 5D Mark III. The first was that 4K video. It has a nice balence between resolution and high ISO capability. Burst speed is decent, but could definitely be better.
