Beware Of Excessive Ink Buildup
The Canon Pro-1000 was purchased so I could produce larger 17 by 22 inch prints as opposed to my existing Epson Stylus Photo R3000 that only produced up to 13 by 19 inch prints. I also wanted to try a different technology as far as printhead and ink delivery technology. I have felt that I did sufficient homework in evaluating the Canon Pro-1000 versus the Epson P800 that was my other choice. My letter size and 11 by 17 inch test prints on glossy ... Show More

Exceeds Expectations
As a professional photographer whose primary clientelle purchase images publication in glossy magazines, it is essential for me to know that the image files submitted to the editors will meet or exceed their expectations for color and resolution. Having a quality on-site printer is a basic requirment of my business. And the Winner Is. . .
I do professional video and still photography and have been through a ton of so called 'photo' printers in the past 30 or so years and to date this is the best printer that I've gotten my hands on. My B&H delivery arrived on time as promised and the pringer was shipped in it's original packing Canon packing box only, no issues with the packing. Pay attention to the specs on weight and size because the Pro-1000 is every bit as heavy and large as i... Show More

Prints great but some system problems.
The Pro 1000 was first purchased a few months ago and when I tried to perform an automatic print head alignment as part of the initial set-up, it would not complete the task. Calls to Canon tech support, though courteous, were of no help. It seems they had never heard of the problem. I assume it was software related. Canon offered to send a new printer but I declined, preferring to get another new one from B&H, thus assuring I would not get a ref... Show More

Who to Call ???
I recently bought a Canon ImagePrograf Pro-1000 17" that replaced my Canon 5100 after about eight years of use. The Pro-1000 17" is missing a roll feeder and only uses flat paper of a maximum size of 17" by 22" long. I wrestled with these "differences" for some time. My composites are usually 16" x 24". But, the Canon 5100 continued to require a head swap about every six months which is costly at about $400. The 5100 otherwise was a very good pri... Show More

Great printer. Images are beautiful. I would purchase again
I purchased the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 after a very careful review of available options including other Canon dye printers and Epsons. I wanted to be able to print up to 17x22 and did not need roll paper. I wanted a pigment vs. a dye printer. Being able to print black & white images was a high priority. The B&H salesman was quite knowledgeable when I first looked at the actual printer. Prior to purchasing, I was able to examine some 17x22 pr... Show More

Great Printer, not perfect
I delayed my review to get really familiarized and actually use the printer in real life not only testing or playing with it. With the driver and software there is a learning curve; there are many profiles available, so far I've print in Canon, Redriver, Hahnemuhle, Moab, Ilford, HP and Inkpress papers from a variety of sizes and types depending on the final use. In all (perhaps only a tad lesser quality on the Inkpress canvas) the results were a... Show More

Premium Print Quality, Impressive Build
I wanted a premium quality 17 printer, I got it down to the Pro-1000 and the P800. I poured over reviews on both printers for months, and decided on the Canon from B&H. I could not be more pleased. At the end of the day what matters is the quality of the print. This machine is impressive. My experience with the Pro-1000: 1) Ink usage at startup: Initial setup used about two thirds of the provided ink. Leaving you about 1/3 to work with on the ini... Show More

Superb product, incoherent documentation
Canon rates 5 stars for the machine, zip for the documentation, on average 2-1/2. (Rounded to 3.) The Pro 1000 is physically head and shoulders above the Epson 3880 it replaced. It is better built and far better designed: no black ink switching, replaceable print head, etc. The produced prints are breathtaking, and that, after all, is what we're after. (But beware: you'll use about 2/3 of the ink just filling the system. Canon should say so: it c... Show More

Easy set-up - excellent results
I had originally purchased the Epson P800 to replace my trustworthy 3880, but had ongoing issues, so returned it and after quite a bit of research, purchased the Canon PRO 1000 instead. (I'm sure the P800 is fine, but after several sessions with Epson's tech service, who did their best, but without result, I refused to take a chance. ImagePrograf Pro-1000 is awesome
I've been going to the Canon Learning Center in Costa Mesa CA, for over a year now to attend a monthly event they call Critique and Print. People bring two images on a thumb drive view on 3 huge TV's while the host and audience critiques each image then votes on one of the two to print on the ImagePrograf Pro-1000 on 17x22 paper. I so much wanted to fall in love with it....
I bought the Canon to replace my aging Epson 3880. In trying to decide between the Epson P800 and the Canon, the Canon won out because of what I thought to be a better and more reliable (long term) paper feed mechanism. We use these printers in our book bindery to print personalized pages on mostly uncoated and rough textured paper, as well as lines for journals. Being able to switch between (relatively) fast low res print and high quality is imp... Show More

Great out of the box!
Remarkable 'right out of the box' results! My only possible complaint is the software, or more specifically the software documentation. It took hours to properly understand how to use the color calibration within the Canon Software, but now if have the working, the results are both consistent and spectacular. Everyone complains as to ink price, but the cost to watch is the price of quality paper. Anyone with cost concerns should install and use t... Show More

fantastic, right out of the box...
It has been fantastic, right from the first print. If you've got even the most basic tolerance for making the small amount of effort to set it up, reviewing the proper process for your print interface (I'm using lightroom) for a few minutes, and troubling yourself to download an ICC profile or two...then this is a steal. After screwing up the margins on the very first print I made, the rest have been flawless. I've primarily made BW prints with ... Show More

Very happy with this printer
Let me preface this by saying this is my first photo printer so i don't really have anything to compare it to. But i've been very happy with this printer. i've printed maybe a dozen photos so far, ranging from 5x7 to 17x22 and aside from the first two where i had the paper upside down they've all come out fantastically. I wasn't too sure what photo paper to use (matte, semi-gloss, luster, etc.) so i purchased the 8.5x11 sample pack that gives 5 s... Show More

Superb ProGrade Printer - the Pro-1000
My 9500 (Mark I) died and I replaced that with the Pro-1000. I really liked the 9500, but constantly replacing the ink tanks was a frustration and bigger can be better. I am a serious amateur. Ink Waster
The prints coming out of this printer are fine. But, at what cost? I've made 75 prints in 3 months consuming 8.33 square meters of paper and 71.42ml of ink. That also is fine. This data is from Canon's Job List program. There are 12 80ml ink tanks in the printer for a total of 960ml of ink. That's over a quart of ink. Three days ago, I was low on 3 tanks. I started the printer and it went into automatic cleaning mode. When it finished, I was low ... Show More

Great Printer, Bad Software and Documentation
Have had the printer for two weeks and am satisfied with the output. Did an initial test on two Canon papers and five Ilford (with their profiles) and find the colors to be indistinguishable.
