Great, but beware of its 25 character password limit
It works great, but PSA: Don't use WD Security to protect your data, and if you do- bear in mind it has an undocumented 25 character password limit that it doesn't tell you nor warn you off when exceeded. I spent way too long trying to figure it out...

NOT bootable!
This is a well designed amazingly small package. However, I had some significant issues creating the partitions I needed - PLUS the WD My Passport disk is NOT bootable, sopmething not recealed in any of the ads, etc. I am an experienced computer builder and and a reasonably sophisticated user, so I don't believe these issues relate to my inadequacy. C'mon, Western Digital, please be much more honest about the limitations of the My Passport product!

I will probably purchase another one
I backup ALL of my image files on external hard drives. Two for rotating monthly through a safety deposit box at my bank, One with me when I am traveling. This Passport goes with me when I am traveling. It is compact, relatively fast with USB 3 and does not require a power brick.

I would buy this product again
This performs very well. Used for back-ups to store offsite so the small size comes in handy. I don't use much of the software that comes with the drive so can't comment on that. I have several other WD drives, performance and reliability have never been a problem.

Nice hard drive
Works so far. I have always used western digital and I am happy with this one as well. I previously bought the orange version and have been happy with that one as well.

Reliable drive for portable storage
Performance seems about the same as with previous My Passport and My Passport Ultra drives. The only real change is cosmetic: the case. I would deduct half a star just for that. The new design with sharp corners was misguided (I prefer the Ultra).

Very satisfactory external HDD.
I have thoroughly tested this external HDD (with WD's software), reformatted it for larger sectors, and bought a high-impact case for it. It will hold all of my photos from Lightroom so that I can easily work on everything using my desktop while at home and on the road with a laptop. small, adorable, affordable and secure
small, adorable, affordable and secure. didnt do much with it to figure out how powerful it is but so far for backups its perfect, i wish 4T would really be 4T and not 3.63, i also didnt figure out yet how to lock the drive, i thought it would be simple in the installation software but didnt see it yet, i am also feeling that it might be slower than my 2T HD, i guess it needs more power from the USB to move things around, i will do video tests later to know for sure if this is a working HD or a backup HD. All in all, great price for a very well made product.

Not Ready for Prime Time?
Had this fail on me after less than one month of use. WD is replacing it under the warranty, but what a hassle. Not sure the 4TB are ready for prime time just yet. If you try it, make sure this isn't your only backup.

Only External Hard Drive I trust
I bought two of these for my photos as well as one as a clone backup. They are very durable, fast, and do the job that I expected them to. I've been using WD drives for years now and I can see why I trust WD for storage.

4TB Passport working fine as a simple NAS!
I have connected this HDD to my home Netgear wireless router as File History network storage for my wife & my PCs. So far it is working great!

WD drive is great
Drive works as advertised - and as always B&H service was great. The only thing I would like to advise, if you do want to password protect the drive, write the password somewhere because if you forget it you will have to erase the drive and start all over, because WD does not have a function to restore your password,. I know from personal experience, but luckily I had 0 files on the drive when I added the password and promptly forgot it. Getting old is not for the faint of heart. Otherwise I would buy again and recommend it to a friend

I would buy this product again and again.
I bought this drive to store all of the photos i edit in one place. I still keep a backup on my NAS, but this is mobile and fast and quiet. So far it has been 100% reliable and a great asset. Would buy again and again.

Nice and compact
I use Western Digital for all of my external hard drives and have never had a problem. Price of storage continues to drop and this seems a good value for a 4TB size. Works fine so far.

Another happy purchase from B&H photo.
This replaces my smaller backup drive. Such is the way with storage. If we can keep it we do. Or as Seagate said in 1983, It's a 10MB drive, who will ever need more storage than that on a home pc?

Hard Drive is Fine. WD Software is AWFUL
If WD would make this Drive a Plug and Play out of the box, it would be fine. I struggled with the included software and could NOT get it to work. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with Product Support in India and HE GAVE UP TOO! Had me downloading 3rd-party software to try to make this work. No go. I finally used Windows 10 backup and I suppose it is working. WD - Get your act together!

Can't format it on my Mac no matter what.. dissapointed
I wanted to use it as my new backup drive but altho been told by a representative in the stote, I could not format it to work as EXFAT or any other format for that matter on my Macbook pro Retina

Loaded great
For once a computer accessory worked great right out of the box for me! Loaded great and worked as advertised the first time. Same with the enclosed backup software. I'm a happy camper! I'd definitely buy WD external drives again.

Could not use the included software
I have 5 Passport Ultra drives and use the included Security and Utility software. However, this drive is NOT an Ultra and the WD software could not see it. I returned it an purchased an Ultra drive and the included software worked perfectly.
