I bought a Shure SMS48 back in the '90's and it has proven itself an ideal performer for nearly TWO DECADES. My backing vocals sound clean, natural and loud, and I don't have to sweat getting an expensive mic lost or stolen. It's nearly half the price of a 58 and delivers 9/10ths of the performance. I'll admit 58's have a little something extra, but I detect very little difference between the two IMHO. For my harmonies and honky tonk stage chatter, the 48 is a perfect mic for the road. Thanks to Shure for another great product.

Not as good as SM58, but if you need a cheap durable mic this is the best. I bought it for spoken word applications, it works fine for this but I don't plan on doing any serious vocal work. Get the SM58 if you can for a good all purpose mic. But if you know you only need it for speech, then save the money and buy the SM48.

My band purchased this mic a little under a month ago and i love it the sensitivity is perfect for a drummer/singer like my self the sentive mic allows me to sit a good distance away and still be picked up loud and clear so the mic dosent mess with my drumming... the down side is that also due to the sensitivity it squells if your (screamer) vocalist holds it around the top as i'v noticed most of them do but thats why i use it.

I read the reviews and recommendations on the legendary Sure SM58, but didn't really need to buy another mic. I have an AKG, an MXL and a Samson at home, and I work with the Sennheiser 421, EV RE-20 and Heil mics at work. But I saw the B & H price on this, and decided to give it a whirl. WOW.. seriously? Less than $35 for a mic of this quality? Unbelievably good deal! This little Sure SM48 sounds so good, crisp, clean.. blows the Heil and the EV RE-20 out of the water, even sounds better than the Sennheiser! I do a slight EQ contour to shift the bass energy a little lower, with a -1.5db dip @ 378Hz, and a 2db bump around 90 Hz, a little bump at 900 for presence.. and this sounds perfect every time! I don't have to wrestle with that bass tip-up that you always get with the condensers like the AKG and the MXL. For pure voice stuff, this one is a gem. I'll grab it first now before messing with the other mics.. this is a more direct line to getting a great result without the intermediate adjustment stops the other mics need. The RE-20 is retired now. I won't even use it with the SM48 to choose from. I use this for VO work, mostly with commercial spots at a major market radio station. Totally recommend this mic. At this price? A no brainer! Bargain of the century. ... More

I got a great sale price on the SM48-LC in-store, but it's still barely worth it. The sound is extremely dull, even with a nice preamp (unusable with my interface's low-quality preamp). Needs heavy EQ to brighten the sound. The mic feels durable. It's heavy steel and well-put together like anything I'd expect from Shure. Looks sexy. I liked the accessories it came with: nice mic clip, cable tie and mic pouch. Save your money and buy an SM58. They're that much better than this.

I needed 3 wired mics quickly and knew B&H could get them to me quickly. The question I had for myself was whether to buy Shure's SM58 known world wide for having an excellent reputation or the lesser priced SM48. Trusting Shure to not make a bad product, I bought 3 SM48s and had them by Christmas Eve for the worship service. I used all three in the service 1 for flute, 1 for clarinett, and one for piano. The sound was very good and the recording was the revelation of how good these mics really are. They sound terrific!

Picked up a couple of these for practice in my studio for the band. Ok, so I didn't wanna spring for the SM58 so I got these. Hooked these up through an Allen & Heath ZED board running EV ELX112P Speakers and a DriveRack PX. I'll have to say for the money and a small practice space there is no difference in the 48 and 58. I would have given 5 stars but it not the 58 and certainly not the Beta 58. Still, rugged as the 58 for sure. Didn't like the mic clip that Shure sent with it as it grabs the mic at the end of it rather than somewhere in the middle. Overall a great performer and B&H has it priced right. ... More

Good budget performance mic. I did a side-by-side and couldn't tell the difference between this and an SM58 as a vocal mic. If you're already thinking about the SM58, consider this as a viable alternative.

These are basically just SHURE SM58 mics with the internal transformer left out to lower the price...lack of the 'former makes them a little weak sounding BUT if you run 'em thru a preamp (M-audio DMP or Symetrix sx202 preamps can be had cheaply), these are fine for vocals, snare drum, elec guitar cabs. I kinda like 'em. I have been able to pick them up for about $30 consistently, and they do not seem to have the "counterfeit" issues that plague SM58 purchases. Try one (with a preamp).

My first shoot with this mic was an outdoor event in 30-40 mile per hour winds with loud music blaring on a P.A. system. I put a cheap foam windscreen on and the SM48 performed beautifully. It picked up almost no wind noise, no handling noise, and it did a great job rejecting off-axis sound. The audio quality in general is quite good, and the price is right!

I purchased this microphone for rehearsals but might end up using for live shows as well. The quality from this mic is outstanding. I have a wireless sm58 as well, but wanted something that I didn't mind getting dinged up. If you're looking for something affordable with quality, then this mic is the one to go for. Although the bigger brother sm58 May have a little edge over the sm48, but not much at all.

It's not as full as my sm58 but for half the price, it's worth getting a few more. I use it for live streaming and karaoke. All 3 works great. You might need to get the pop shield to prevent the extra pops from some singers though. My friends are loving my set up with these and they're asking to get them set up with these mics as well. It's worth mentioning that you should get the switch version for these applications.

I have been buying these mics for years, and I will continue to buy them for my production company. I use them for quite a few different operations. When you need to get a bunch of mics for your production inventory, it's always good to catch these on sale. Not quite the same is the SM58, but the difference is not really noticeable, unless you are using both at the same time.

For the price along, I would purchase this mic again.
