I'm using this to record myself playing grand piano and for tuning. For that purpose it's all I need. I've tried recording with Macbook Pro and Audacity but having a lot of electronic noise issues. Recording with the Shure app on iPad is very clean, so I don't think the issue is with the mic. For my situation, this is a good product. Pros 1. Certified to work with iPad (some USB mics draw too much power, requiring you to use a powered USB hub). 2. Includes cables for iPad and regular USB. 3. Shure has an easy-to-use app for their USB mics with mic setting controls and level/equalizer adjustments for basic recording. 4. Good enough sound for my purposes - there's a good review with sound samples on thewirecutter, which ranked this 2nd after Blue Yeti. There are also some examples on youtube if you search. However, most USB microphone reviews are based on recording voice, not instruments. 5. Fits a 1/4 thread camera tripod, which I already have. 6. Multiple DSP modes, including flat. 20-20kHz response. Cons 1. Not stereo - but most USB mics aren't except Blue Yeti. Doing stereo with 2 USB mics is a bit of pain from what I've read. 2. Stand is cute but doesn't allow much adjustment. Add a mini ball head like Oben BD-0, or a small tripod. 3. Includes 3 ft cables. You might want longer. Long USB cable is easy to find. iPad is harder. 4. Up: - Looks very pretty on desk - Support iOS (with bundled Lightning cable), I can do recording easily from my iPad. The app is simple and easy-to-use and have a demo feature if you don't own the device - Support Android (with USB-C OTG dongle), the Cinema Pro on my Sony Xperia One automatically switch to this Shure microphone - Easy buttons to switch between voice, flat, instrument, and mute. No button for setting gain or equalizer - It double itself as a USB speaker: internally mixing the microphone with USB audio output into its 3.5mm adapter. B&H mistakenly describes this as a side-address, it is more of a top address mic, although a spherical shape is confusing in this regard. Many reviewers mention that this mic is an improvement on bud or laptop mics, which is really quite useless, the mic should be compared to other external mics. I agree that the cables are really from another era, so stiff and unwieldy as to be a hindrance to proper mic use. This is an important ergonomic oversight, it's a shame they went for the cheapest possible solution. I likewise find the mute button is a major failure. First, the circuit breaker comes AFTER the click which locks it, meaning that you cannot mute the mic without an audible click being heard on the line. Stupendously stupid choice. The flashing led warning that you have muted the mic are invisible to the speaker, as they are all situated in BACK of the mic. Again, real dumb. Finally, the DSP mode button is right beside the tiny mute one, in back of the mic, and when you are under cognitive load while streaming or recording, and you have to cough, it is really unpleasant to have no clear, easy and failsafe button to mute, you have to fiddle in back of the mic, with not visual feedback you have succeeded, it is amazinly ill thought out. On the upside, the fact it has a normal camera tripod threading is really a good idea, any mini tripod is way better than the stand it comes with, as you can angle the mic in a much wider arc. In my previous review I gave this microphone 4 stars, having used it for a Zoom artist classroom in Italy, my instructor says I sound as if I am beside him. Sound quality is very good, and though it is attached to the tripod leg of my Padcaster streaming equipment, I can move around my art studio and still be heard 15 feet away from the microphone. Very happy with this purchase, can highly recommend the Shure MOTIV MV5 to anyone live streaming or making videos using Apple iPads, and iPhones. Works great!

I bought this to use for podcasting on my iPhone. Its a great microphone for someone like me who doesnt want to mess around very much in DAW after recording, since you can change the compression, gain, and 5 channel EQ in the microphone itself However, and this isnt Shures fault (hence no rating deduction), this microphone does not work in VOIP on iOS mobile devices. Skype, Discord, Anchor, FaceTime, even phone calls, it does not work. Just a heads up in case you were buying this for that reason.

I was looking for a decent mic for playing keyboard and singing once we started streaming our worship services. This was a really good selection. It produces good sound quality for this purpose. It also has settings that allow you to select whether you are just speaking or doing music. Easy to setup. Nice to have the headphone port on the mic. Well priced for the quality and B&H delivered it quickly when others couldn't seem to delivery anything. I can see many uses for this in the future.

Perfect addition to an iPad or iPhone to stream live music on Facebook etc. Great sound, huge improvement over built-in mics. All the basic controls you need with a great little stand included. Also works well with my laptop. I am a music teacher navigating the new world of distance learning and this mic has made a BIG difference in sound quality for my students. A+!

I like the look of the Shure MV5 and can tell from the headphone monitoring that the microphone is picking up sounds. Unfortunately, the output through the micro-usb is too quiet to be useful to me for podcast recording or videoconferencing, which were my intended purposes. I've tried increasing the gain and testing it on two separate Windows 10 laptops, an iPad and an iPhone. The problem is the same across all of those devices. Even if I'm speaking within 2-3 inches of the microphone, I have to be pretty loud. I got this mic for remote acoustic guitar lessons and to record myself for learning purposes. It was easy to set up on my computer and it works fine. The tilt adjustment is easy to do, and the LEDs clearly show which mode the mic is in. I also like that it has a headphone jack and came with both USB and lightning cables. And I just learned that the mount threading is compatible with standard camera tripod, very handy.

The difference in recorded spoken audio quality using this mic versus speaking into the built-in mic on macbook pro is significant. Almost eerie how much more lifelike your own voice sounds when listening in realtime through the monitor headphone jack on back of unit... a striking ASMR-like effect. Imagine that the people on other end of Zoom call are wondering how your voice escaped from its prison.
I would buy this and recommend it to my friends.

I record myself playing and singing at the same time. Its helped me fine tune both skills. Its not a professional end all mic like you would use in a studio. But great for making demos to get your studio time. It also has a high frequency range. I love mine.

I have been looking to upgrade my sound and recording capabilities for quite some time. It was time to graduate from built-in computer microphone, which produced, in my setting often, a hollow and tinny recording. The MV5 has produced a richer sound for voice recordings in training videos and podcast. The headphones are surprisingly light and provide good noise blocking (not canceling) that allow for hours of easy use.

Purchased this microphone for my wife to use for Zoom and also for recording songs / stories for church. Being able to connect to a Windows 10 laptop or a iPad is very useful and being able to mount on a tripod is great. Only downside is the microphones is extremely directional. A source of background music must be placed directly in front of the microphone or it doesn't pick it up well. This means that the singer and the sound source must be in line with the microphone, not to the side. I bought this mic because I suddenly was called upon to teach music and record music online due to the Covid19 epidemic. I think it's a great product at a reasonable cost and really sounds fantastic! I play and teach flute and shakuhachi but use it for speaking voice also and in all these realms it does an excellent job!

This was purchased for web conferencing/podcasting. The sound quality is as good as can be transmitted over most of the software used for this, so fine. The only downside is that the little stand is too small not very adjustable--you might want to invest in a larger/more flexible one, or a mic arm. The mounting fitting is nonstandard, though, which makes that slightly more difficult. Overall, excellent for the price.

Saves time and mental bandwidth so I can focus on just getting the job done. If I want to do something quickly, patch in something or do a voice over and don't feel like booting up my interface and fiddling with too many options. It works, I don't have to think about it or waste time on a set up or fiddle with buttons to find the sweet-spot settings. It almost annoys me how simple and easy it is. Why didn't I just buy this earlier?

I needed a microphone for my iPad casting setup. I didn't like the tinny sound I was getting from my shotgun mic, so I purchased the Shure MOTIV MV5. It works well, sound is warmer, but you do have to be close to the microphone so I have it attached to the tripod leg which puts the mic closer to me. I like the fact that you can monitor the input from the mic itself, just plug in some headphones. For what I use it for, it works well.

Really good product, very satisfied so far. Weirdly, I found some jitter issues while using Zoom but not Teams or other software. It's clearly a software issue, but one should be aware. Also, the mute button could be a bit more easily accessible. But highly recommended, anyway.
