I use this product for home studio recording. I am a musician. I record with piano, acoustic guitar, bongo's, other percussion, but i primarily bought this for vocal uses. Vocals 10/10Acoustic Guitar 9/10Bongo's/percussion 9/0Piano 7/10, you always want to record piano with 2 microphones which is why i think it doesn't sound as good as it can. Seeing as i used this mic solely.Pros:This mic is incredible for vocal use. The dual capsule allows you to record primary and backing vocals with a different timbre and having that versatility at your disposal makes for great recordings. Amazing sound quality for the price of the mic.Nice bright sound while recording acoustic guitar (on the bright setting).A rich warm tone on the warm setting. Last two were a bit obvious, i just wanted to concur with that. Cons: This mic weighs a lot. You must make sure you have a sturdy stand while using it or it will fall over if bumped.If you have the recording volume up really high it does have a minor bit of fuzz but not enough to concern me for what i do.YOU MUST HAVE PHANTOM POWER or this mic does not operate, you can't just plug it in and use it. Buy a Behringer PS400 phantom power supply for $ if you don't have a deck with phantom power. It's an easy fix, so don't avoid purchasing this mic because of that. But it is just one more thing you got to buy. You definitely want a pop filter to protect your mic and to improve sound quality while recording vocals. Also, you do want a shock mount for it so when you record you don't have to worry about bumping the stand and ruining a good recording. These items are standard for any condenser microphone though so don't be phased by this.Even though there is more written in the con section, that should have no bearing on whether or not you should purchase it. It is a very good microphone.General Info:I do not know if it is durable yet, i've only been using if for about a month.It does require a bit of setup so if you don't know anything about microphones in advance you probably want to go for a standard dynamic microphone. When setting up my home studio for voice over work, I did a lot of research before settling on this mic. The MXL V67G has a big, warm sound that's perfect for commercial work and audiobooks. I also have an EV RE20, but I prefer the V67G hands down. My 'mic snob' VO friends kept trying to talk me out of the V67G, but to my ears the V67G sounds every bit as impressive, responsive, and warm as other more expensive mics. If you're building a home voice over studio from scratch, I highly recommend the MXL V67G as your main, work-horse mic. It doesn't get any better than this. The only cons with the V67G is that the adaptor is a bit flimsy, and the gold mesh is thin and easily bent. ... More

I have been a pro musician for decades, and I have used a wide variety of studio mics during that time. Most of my early work was done with Neumann U87 mics, and in the time since I have used Rode, AT, and Shure mics. I was looking for a cost-effective, high-quality LDC for EDM project A Girl & A Gun, an act that is enjoying massive underground popularity. Vocalist Sophie B is also in demand as a topline vocalist for numerous high-profile EDM artists.Sophie's voice has a distinctive, aggressive texture, so I was looking for a mic that would emphasise a warm midrange without adding a shrill top end. The V67G is perfect, giving a solid, almost tube-like performance. And Sophie loves the green/gold color! Used in my Project Studio for recording vocals, acoustic guitars, percussion and even guitar amps. Recommended by famed recording engineer Ronan Chris Murphy and, i'm glad I heeded his advice. Tried other cheap condensors and, in my experience so far, this mic stands head and shoulders above the others. Of course, YMMV. So far, the material i've recorded has stayed true without any distortion or coloration of any sort and, as noted above, i've used it on a lot of different sources. It is a very versatile mic. This is also a popular mic to modify (do a google search) which, is something I will probably do in the future. Only thing that some may find to be a downside is the fact that you are stuck with only one polar pattern and, there's no pad switch but, for a first time home recording/project studio engineer on a budget, this mic will cover a lot of bases. I bought this microphone for my project recording studio needing something affordable with a warm rich tone. I was not disappointed. The V67G has a FET preamp inside the body and it has a very tube-like nature to it; the harmonic content is rich but not in an obtrusive way. The bass proximity effect is a little over-powering at times, but by simply using some bass roll-off in the EQ stage of the channel strip can help that. The looks of the microphone are impressive as well - I think my clients will appreciate that as well as the tone of the recordings through it. I've so far used it on vocals only but I definitely see myself using it on acoustic guitars as well. This particular model was not billed as being able to handle high SPL very well, so I might not go to the extent of using it to mic my 4x12 cab but it's primarily designed for vocals. As large-diaphragm condenser microphones go, nothing can match the V67G at its price. Unlike earlier generations of overly shrill U67/87 copies that came flooding out of China, MXL finally got it right on this one and at an extremely attractive price. It really does have that German sound -- oh, not as civilized as the real thing, a bit grainy on top, but still, well, professional sounding. It works well anywhere one might use a 67 type of mike -- vocals, of course, guitar cabinets, front-of-kit drums. On the other hand, it is surprisingly sibilant on my own high baritone voice and not particularly suited to acoustic strings, so recognize that it is not a one size fits all microphone. I picked this up at a local GC a couple years back, and it has definitely served it's purpose. It is a bit sibilant in the 4-6k region, but so are all of the other low end condensers. As far as MXL goes, this is their best vocal mic besides the Genesis or Revelation models. If you're looking at the MXL V69, which is a tube condenser, go with the V67. Pair it with a cheap preamp like the Presonus Tubepre, switch out the stock tube and save yourself 20 bucks. First, B&H got this here quickly even in these times, great job. I watched many online reviews of this before I bought it. The reviews I watched and read were correct, this microphone is amazing for the price. It has extremely little noise and sounds amazing for the price. It supposedly originally retailed for $200 and now is under $100. At that price it's a steal. I'm planning on doing home recordings of my wife and I singing some of my arrangements for fun. I want her to sound good (which she does) and this should bring out her true quality. This mic did not come with any accessories like some others do, so I have added a pop filter and shock mount which should take it to the next level. I needed a do-it-all large-diaphragm mic, and this fit the bill. I was not expecting a whole lot, but it sounds fantastic. I use it to mic acoustic guitar and vocals, using a cheap pop filter for the latter. What's great is the sound. I'm not using anything special for a pre-amp, an M-Audio Fast Track MkII, and it just flat-out sounds great. It picks up the room nicely if you are trying to mic an ensemble, and it doesn't have any noise. On my guitar it picks up every little sound, very natural and organic. I love it. What's not so great is, oddly enough, the sound - it picks up every nuance of my voice and reveals its flaws. It's just a very honest-sounding microphone. I use 2 mics when recording vocals. I use the 67i in conjunction with the MXL R144 ribbon and it works fabulous. My secret is to have the vocalist sing right between the 2 mics with a pop filter and mix it English style right then for the best sound and print. Good mic technique finishes the recording. I will run it 60/40 in favor of one mic over the other, but 2 mics mixed always dials in better than a single mic in this price range.

I work as a recording engineer for music and a sound editor/designer for post in film. A solid little mic to be used for V.O., Foley recording, and some entry level recording of acoustics or vocals.This mic is a step above your entry level microphone. The mic has the characteristic of a warm smooth old school tube mic. Switching to the brighter capsule does open up the high end a little and help bring a crispier bite to the high frequencies. This mic gets a little muddy on the lower frequencies but it responds well to equalization in the post process. I use the V67i for recording, mainly rap and hip-hop vocals. I am amazed by the clarity and precision and the quaility of the signal captured during playback. In a far less than stellar recording enviorment I am still able to get a good recording with minimal unwanted noise. The microphone is very sensitive so it allows me the flexibility to record into the late hours of the evening without having me or other artist yell at the top of our lungs to create the passionate drive in the music. For the price, this mic is definitely worth it. The sound is very warm, and sounds clear as the SNR is pretty good. It looks cool too lol.. I will say the high end is not as good on this mic as it is for others that cost around the same, but I'm fine with that as I like to have a variety of microphones for different sounds/purposes. If you do voice acting, this mic works great if you have a deep voice IMHO.. Overall, I'm glad to have added this mic to my collection.

The V67G looks beutiful and sounds great. Very wide and tall window for picking up voice. This can be awesome for songs were it's hard to stay on top of the mic to sing while playing guitar. Now if there is a bunch of other sounds close to the mic it will pick them up as well. This mic requires phantom power which some things do not provide eg. JM4 Looper and some Amps. Check your gear first. Also this is not a workhorse mic. what i mean is the internals are more fragile than say a SureSM58, which is my workhorse. I’ve used this mic to record vocals and acoustic guitar. I plug it into an Art Studio MP preamp then to a Lexicon Lambda and record in GarageBand just to make demo tracks at home. I actually like the sound of my voice through this mic, I’d consider it nasally through other mics, as it seems to warm it up a bit. I think as a room mic it works great when I’m playing acoustic with a friend. After mine wasn’t returned I bought a second to replace it as I like having this in my microphone locker.

For the price, it's one of the better sounding mics out there. It can compete with other mics three-four times the prices. It's not as bright as other mics in this range and MXL did a great job making a "67-ish" mic for very little money. With just a little EQ this mic does great on voiceovers. I'm looking forward to trying it on other sources such as saxophones, brass instruments, and pianos. MXL does it again and brings good quality to the masses.

I'm new to home recording, and the MXL v67g large-diaphragm condenser mic is perfect for my vocal recording needs. My budget for this mic was about $100, and at $, the v67g fit the bill nicely. This mic was consistently recommended to me over similar choices as the Rode NT1-A, and I'm confident I've made the right choice. My vocal recordings (I'm a bass) have a warm, clear, even tone. Plus, the thing is beautiful, with a gold grill and all-around pro-looking design. It comes with a handy carrying case to keep harmful dust out. I purchased this mike for my home recording studio and fell in love with it the first time I used it. I have to be honest though, I did not expect alot from this mic due to the price. I was wrong! I also have a more expensive one that I normally use but wanted to buy something cheaper to use out in gigs as well. Well, I sold the expensive mic and sent for another one of these. It's all about the value. I have heard people criticize MXL for selling low-quality microphones, but for the most part, I think those people are just snobby when it comes to mics. I have had great experience with MXL in the past, and continue to with this mic. Nice warm tone on the front capsule and a brighter, more airy quality on the back. It makes for a great, super inexpensive mic that is widely versatile.Sure, you can spend $200 more and get a better mic...or you can save that money and put it towards a new instrument!

If you are looking for a budget mic that is warm and tube like, this is it. I bought this because of reputation not because of the price. It is a fantastic mic. Nothing cheap sounding about it and I had no issues with self noise either. Used with a dbx 286s channel strip with a bit of compression and EQ going into my DAW. A clean preamp.. You can't go wrong and it looks cheesely cool. Sounds above it's price point. For the price you can't beat it. By the way it is nicely made too. No worries there. Used on female vocals only.
