For making podcasts, this mic is great! The sound pick up is very sensitive and has a great depth in sound, while it is easy to use and set up. There are several recording settings for sound pick up which makes this mic very versatile too. It is also relatively light in weight. Headphones plug very easily into the base of the mic for convenience when recording yourself. For interviewing, the mic pics up in two directions, just one direction or even a surround direction. It isn't the best for portability or recording on the go, but if you do need to travel with it, there is only one cord unless you have headphones as well. The one minor drawback for me is that inconvenience of portability. Not impossible, but probably not suggested if you are traveling and recording more than you are stationery and recording. One thing that might be a concern in a year or two is the fact that the device has only one way on and off. There is no back up way to turn the mic on or off except to plug it into your computer. Once you plug it into your computer, you are on. Though technology is designed for obsolescence, this little fact shouldn't matter too much to anyone who knows they will upgrade in a few years.Overall, it's a pretty good piece of equipment for the novice and maybe even for the semi-pro, at this price. Not to mention, B&H beats all the other pricing in the market... I have been a customer for many years... ... More

Wow, there is little this mic can't do. It integrates easily with most any operating system -- no drivers are needed, which is great. The quality is top-notch, on part with mics costing many times what this retails for. It has three capsules, which allow for four different modes, including a stereo option - it is very unusual to find a stereo recording option in a single mic, and while the stereo is not pure in the sense that it is being recorded all at one point in space, the quality is still excellent and is very useful for recording interviews for example. While the omnidirectional mode is good for interviews as well, being able to position the mic between the two participants and use the stereo mode is a great option as well. The headphone jack is great, and helps enormously for checking the quality of the recording and adjusting the gain on the fly. The ability to separately adjust the gain and the headset volume is a great feature, too. This is a fantastic mic that is aimed at the beginning professional and/or advanced consumer market, and it is an excellent choice for at-home recordings. It can record voice overs as well as live music with the same ease and quality -- just be sure to choose the correct mode (there are 4 in total) and let the mic do the rest.B&H's prices are great ... ... For a while I used the Blue Snowball as a simple and quick method of taking my source audio straight into the editing software I own via USB. However when I upgraded to Win7, my Snowball stopped working so I needed a replacement. The Yeti is what I went with and I am very happy that I did. Like the Snowball it has multiple capsules and pickup patterns but at the same time the Yeti can do so much more and it sounds amazing. I love the stereo recording function and it is true stereo, and the fact that it has been certified by the pros at THX is even sweeter. When I bought this I originally planned to use it here and there for quick analog to digital straight into my editor, however now, after using it for a while, it will become one of my primary studio recording mics. Only downside if you want to call it a downside is the fact that it is BIG. The photos and such make it look smaller than it really is and despite the fact that the dimensions are listed on BHphoto still doesn't prepare you for how big of a microphone it is. Due to the fact of its size this is primarily a studio mic. That aside I can't get enough of this mic. I have been working as a production mixer and sound designer for 6 years now and I can say that this is an exceptional microphone. ... More

This is an Excellent USB MIC. The sound is very clear, has low self-noise, and gives a rich full sound. The poor reviews I read are nothing to go by... The issues are clearly due to lack of experience and knowledge. If you hear your pick from across the room, the gain on the mic is way too high and the master gain on whatever DAW or analog mixer is also set too high. They probably are using the wrong polarity setting as well. Either way, the gain is definitely too high. I own this Mic and it sounds just fine. ... More

It can record in 4 modes Cardiod (just the front) Bi-Directional (front and back. great for two vocalists, harmonies etc.) Omni-Directional (surround sound and can pick up a full large room and even hear a needle fall), and Stereo (left and right sound. great for recording vocals as well as two amps placed on left and right etc etc.). Pop filter must have. I got this microphone about 7 months ago, and have been constantly using it for recording my voice into various softwares. First of all, if you are going to get this microphone, get a boom arm stand to attatch it to. Even though the mic comes with a stand, I have not been able to use the microphone with it. It takes up too much space on my desk, and is not close enough to my mouth. You should also know that you should be keeping the "gain" knob all the way down, to prevent any fuzzy noises or feedback. This means the mic will have to be closer to your mouth (which again shows why you need a boom stand). A pop filter is not neccessary for this mic, if you keep the gain knob at 0. The microphone has been great, except for the fact that the usb port on the microphone (that connects to the computer), is so sensative and in a way, broken. Whenever the cord gets bumped or moved, the mic starts making popping sounds through the headphone port, and needs to be re-plugged several times. This is a MAJOR flaw and because of this, I have recently started thinking about other mic options. Otherwise, the microphone is great. ... More

When my wife and I joined a Hypnobirthing class she was assigned homework: listen to a relaxation and mediation recording. The dusty old bird in the recording using 1980's equipment didn't cut the mustard, so a request was made: would I re-record the script. I've been dying to find a reason to buy Blue's Yeti--mostly because it looks cool, and I imagined myself sitting at my desk, simply admiring it's retro-chic appearance. But now I had a bonafide reason for making the deal. . . and so I swung by B&H (they had one of the better prices--but easily the best sales terms--duty paid option for Canadian is terrific!) and made the purchase. THE GOOD It does look terrific! And the sound is bang on. There are four distinct setting which coordinate the triple capsule array to cater to one's specific needs. I've used the Cardioid (the most straightforward and popular setting) as well as the Stereo setting and they both sound terrific. My Mac's Garage Band had no problems finding and working with the Yeti. THE CHALLENGE It's pretty large. It's almost the size of a loaf of bread. The Volume knob doesn't turn really smoothly--it's almost a little gritty OVERALL: I would buy this item again and again! Makes me sound like Mel Torme. ... More

Being an amateur musician and producer for eleven years has often led me to fight with cheap and flimsy equipment - especially within the realm of microphones. Finally fed up with tinny vocals and all kinds of line noise (including AM radio!) I sprang for the Yeti. I put it through its paces, recording vocals, instruments and field noise to test its four patterns (stereo, cardioid, omni and bidirectional), and it far exceeded my expectations for such an inexpensive microphone. The sound this thing picks up is nothing short of incredible. One of the features that has won me over completely is the real-time headphone monitor - it is indispensable when recording vocals. Having only done minimal vocals myself in the past, it has become a great tool to further train my voice. My only real concerns with this unit are the lack of an analog output, the slightly cheap-feeling monitor volume knob and the microphone's lack of portability (when I said it stands tall, I meant it); all are, however, just personal preferences. Overall, if you are looking to get a good quality general-purpose microphone for your digital home studio, you would be hard-pressed to find one better for the price. ... More

No issues with audio quality for this microphone, but it broke after less than a year due to flimsy, poorly designed connector. It's kind of my own fault--I accidentally bumped it off a desk. However, the microphone and stand are very heavily weighted (perhaps to give the illusion of quality), and this microphone uses an extremely old USB connector type that is prone to stress failures. One little jerk of the cord was all it took to bend/snap the fragile connector pins in the body of the microphone. Game over. After doing some research online I discovered, too late, that damage to this port is so common that there are many forum threads about it, and even shops that replace this specific port on this specific microphone -- for nearly the cost of a new one, of course. On most forums, they'll just recommend that you purchase a better-designed microphone. Very disappointed that such an expensive microphone uses such old, flimsy technology. If you have already purchased this unit, recommend adding additional reinforcement to the port. If you haven't, save your money for something that's actually sturdy instead of something that just looks sturdy. ... More

I was using my iPod Nano for voice overs, with low sounding quality, until that broke, so I decided to try the Yeti. The sound quality is great on the Yeti! Voice overs are nice and crisp! The only thing I don't like about it is that it picks up noise from the desk being taped or bumped, and if you touch the case of the Yeti, you will hear the noise very loudly. Other than that, I am very pleased with this product! It is a bit bulky and heavy, but I don't really care, it fits nicely on my desk, and does its job! I unboxed it, and plugged it into my Windows 8.1 machine and immediately it detected it, However, the instructions indicate to make it the primary output sound as well as the primary mic. Since I have a laptop, I was using it as the primary mic, and the speaker jack as the primary sound. They have a loop back driver that allows sound to come out of the mic itself and go to headphones from it. It took me several minutes to learn how to disable this, and only use the mic by itself. In terms of sound quality, woah this mic does amazing. I did some sound tests, walking through my house, from my home office, all the way to the front of the house (over 1200 ft away) - the mic picked up each instance of testing. Reasons why I'm satisfied with B&H services: 1- I was going to buy this BLUE YETI USB Mic from my usual famous internet retailer but it was cheaper at B&H. No shipping. No FL tax. 2- Item arrived fast and right on schedule. Reasons why I like the BLUE YETI: 1- The No Latency headphones which is an absolute must... when recording and overdubbing on PC. Great for musicians, singer/songwriters etc... 2- Excellent clear & balanced sound quality with four different pattern settings to choose from. The CARDIOID MODE is my favorite. 3- Easy Plug-in-And-Play setup. 4- Personally, I really like its looks and its sturdiness. Some reviewers find it bulky... but it's not if you only use it in a home studio type of setting. 5- Great reasonable price for a condenser mic of this quality. Best money I've ever spent !! :) Conclusion: All PROs... NO CONs !! ... More
