First, kudos to B&H for the VERY quick service. Thank you!I was in radio and TV broadcasting for almost 40 years and now do freelance voiceovers in my retirement, so I am very familiar with microphones.I settled on the XM8500 as a new V/O mic after reading the great reviews here and on other sites. The price seeemed too good to be true but, hey, for $ bucks why not give it a try? What a pleasant surprise! The first thing I noticed was the sturdy hard carrying case - a nice touch - with a sculpted foam liner. Then, the microphone. The build quality and finish are excellent and the mic feels very solid and sturdy, something I wasn't expecting. I connected it to the computer through a Shure mixer and recorded a script several times on Audacity with the mic at various distances from my mouth. Each test was clean and crisp although there was a considerable amount of proximity bass boost with the mic closer than about four inches from your face. This is fine for my application since I was never a mic-eater and prefer to work at a distance of six inches or so where the low end boost is less pronounced. My all time favorite V/O mic is the E-V RE20 that sells for about $ and while the XM8500 is no RE20 it still does a terrific job that is comparable to the RE20 and costs about 95% less. I have to say that I am VERY pleased with the XM8500 and I am certain that it will work very well for the work I do.I give the XM8500 a BIG thumbs-up and recommend it highly. Please remember that this review is about V/O work only and does not address musical vocal or instrumental use. ... I bought 4 of these cardioid microphone to replace a beat up old Shure SM58 and a missing Sennheiser cardioid. I had heard that this Behringer design was based on the SM58 and that it was sturdy but after recording for a while with them (in the studio and on location) I am very impressed with the audio quality as well as the strength of its build; especially at this price!

I've been piecing together a studio at home and at a seriously strict budget. I use this little guy to mic my guitar through amp and it sounds great. I'm sure with a lot more money I could get a much better sound from something on the higher end, but I was so happy with the sound I got from this on my guitar that I immediately checked off "instrument mic" on my "studio needs" list. I haven't used it to record vocals yet and honestly don't plan on it unless my current cardioid mic doesn't cut it.It can be challenging and nerve racking at times trying to get the right mic for your situation as they're not exactly something you can try out in one place and have the same effect in another. If you need to mic a guitar through an amp I highly suggest getting this mic. Perhaps I will try and rereview it after I try it with my bass cab and on vocals, but I've got my hands full as it is so I don't really have time to switch my studio setup just for the sake of writing a review. ... I use this product with my Yaesu FT-950 Ham radio. I was swayed by positive reviews of this mic, for Ham radio use, and decided I wouldn't be out much at $$. I gave it a shot. I have to agree, this mic really has it where it's needed for Ham radio. It truly is the best value in Ham radio! I actually feel fine with no EQ on my radio at all, if I leave the Yaesu at stock 3-27 bandwidth transmit settings. It does need some bass roll-off if you widen the bandwidth range. Overall, highly recommended for Ham radio! ... More

Our church has always used Sennheiser 835 for the singers. Because of our church budget, I tried Behringer mic. I can't seem to hear any difference when I use Senn 835 and Behringer 8500 side by side, but only at the fraction of price. I would highly recommend getting this mic for quality product at low cost. Only thing I can say that aren't good is that the handling of the mic can be a little too sensitive and can be heard when in silence, but can't seem to notice it once singer started to sing. Awesome mic!!

Sturdy and surprisingly clean sounding low price mic, seems to be modeled vs. the Shure 58's. Pretty powerful when considering signal to noise ratio; handling is a little noisy but with proper technique poses no real problem. The cardioid's directional pattern is much more direct then even the 58's which can be excellent for event vocals and quick recordings.

I bought this as a second mic to use for podcasting. I wasn't expecting much, especially as this mic is less than twenty dollars, but I got a LOT more than I paid for. The sound quality on this mic is equal to or greater than many other mics I own that are far more expensive. Low noise, great frequency response.I've owned $ mics before and they've been cheap plastic toys. This is extremely well made, nice and heavy and the sound quality is nothing short of excellent. The only minor downside is this mic is prone to exaggerating plosive sounds ('P' and 'B' sounds, etc), but I fixed that with a three dollar foam windshield. ... The Behringer XM 8500 is an inexpensive alternative to the Shure SM 58. This mic similar power and clarity with very low feedback characteristics, and if it is damaged you can replace it cheaper than the cost of repairs. I have used the XM 8500 for recording and live performances and I am completely satisfied with this product. Nay sayers can continue to use the high dollar mics but remember that those mics are subject to the same abuse, and I can buy 5 XM 8500's for the price of 1 SM 58. Prestige doesn't enhance sound.

I was surprised at how clear the sound was even with the full band around me in a relatively small area. I wouldn't use it for shows because it seems you have to have the mic in one specific direction otherwise your sound is cut off quite distinctly. All in all great practice mic, especially for $

So far so good. Using the microphone to do some vocal recording at our home studio. It's been a quality mic so far - great sound - easy to use - inexpensive. Our one beef is there is no on/off on the mic - so we're forced to mute it on our mixing board. We love the carrying case that comes with it though!

I performed some testing with this mic and compared it to my Shure that cost me more than double the price. I also do Live sound mixing for various church bands so I hear many different mics. The sound seams very full and a little basier than the sure. The construction is great and has a nice feal to it. It's hard to say which one I like better, but I do have a slight inclination for the XM8500. I would not hesitate to purchase it again. Comes in a nice foam case with mic holder.

Purchased a couple of these to fill out some random recording sessions and was quickly impressed with the cost to quality ratio. They have since found regular use in podcast sessions when we do large group casts. We run these through a mixer and into a Zoom H5. The quality is so clean and clear people ask to borrow them for their own recordings. Unless you're going to spend hundreds of dollars on a mic, This is the one for you.

I've used both the Shure SM-58 and GLS ES-58. They are both incredible mics. This Behringer was rumored to be the same as the Shure and the GLS. It's a decent mic but not very similar to the Shure or GLS. For the price it's ok, but I'd definitely spend a little more and get the GLS. The GLS sounds even better than the Shure in my opinion. You can buy 3 GLS mics for the price of 1 Shure. Really! Or you can buy 4 of these Behringers.

I give this 5 stars not because it is the best mic on the planet but for the price it is incredible and gives well beyond its price. It is like getting something similar to the Shure 58 or 57 for $20. I was skeptical but heard alot of good things on reviews and bought one. There is not enough difference to me between it and a shure 58/57 to justify another $70-80. Try it and see your self

Wow, I actually had some of these in the past and sold them when I thought I was done playing music. Was sorry I did and ordered some more to use for live sound in a bluegrass band. We use them for vocals and instruments. They rival any big name mic you can name for live sound, and you can get 3 or 4 of them for the same money as one of the others! So, buy a bag full and outfit your whole group. An on/off switch would be nice but not worth complaining about.
