Nice camera, not so nice kit lens

Apr 6, 2015

I find the Sony Alpha a6000 with the 16-50mm kit lens to be a bit of a paradox. If it weren't for the lens, I would give just the camera a solid four stars. I'll start with the plusses on the camera. This is a surprisingly capable camera, especially considering it's cost and size. It packs an astonishing number of useful features. We purchased this camera for my wife, as she has outgrown the capabilities of her advanced point-and-shoot Cybershot ... Show More

Excellent Camera, Get it Now!

May 21, 2014

This is an excellent camera, and one that I highly recommend. I bought the A6000 to use alongside my Nikon D800, and formerly my Canon 5D III (stolen). I wanted a system that was very capable, yet, very compact and small enough to carry around all day without regretting that I took it with me in the first place. To sit alongside the D800 and 5D III, the camera had to perform. I must say, now that I have been using the A6000 for the past couple of... Show More

A mixed bag

Aug 1, 2015

Sony did so many things right with the a6000, I am blow away by their bad decisions. Let me get the bad stuff off my chest - there are plenty of reviews out there which sing the praises of the a6000.As far as the camera itself, the battery is underpowered and the battery compartment is just asking for a failure. Additionally, something as simple as the compartment locking when you close it would be nice - instead you have to manually slide the la... Show More

Solid Performer For The Money

Dec 17, 2015

I'm a worship photographer and for the past few years I've been shooting with either my Nikon D300 or D5000. More recently I've been shooting with a Sony a77ii. Those 3 systems have a lot of weight so I began looking for something lighter. I'd heard quite a bit about the mirrorless systems and so did some research and determined that the Sony a6000 might be a good system to migrate to. I've had this camera for about two weeks and at this point ha... Show More

I have had the a6000 for just about 5 months and I am smitten. My photography isn't being held back by this camera - it is being held back by me!I concur with all the gushing comments in the reviews, and give this camera an overall 5 star rating, so I definitely love this camera. To be constructive, I'll point out both aspects I don't like as well as some areas that were not called out that I do enjoy.Minuses:Autofocus: with the 35mm f/1.8 lens i... Show More

Extreme Value - Great Video

Oct 9, 2015

You get more than what you pay for. The Sony Alpha a6000 is simply an awesome camera. When you compare it to other cameras both DSLR and Mirrorless in its class, this camera outshines them all. Stills are sharp and the colors are good. Video is detailed and the noise, like on most all Sony sensors, looks more like grain than digital noise (ala Canon). Video on the a6000 is detailed enough to cut in with the a7s, a7RII, NXCAM, XDCAM, etc. Comparin... Show More

Handles Better Than Any Other Camera I've Ever Owned

Dec 24, 2015

Sony A6000 Camera Review Over the past 40 years I've owned several Canon SLR and DSLR cameras along with a half dozen Canon lenses. Until a year ago my favorite Canon camera and lens combination was a Canon 5D camera with a 24-105mm lens, with a combined weight of almost four pounds. At age 86 I have a problem handling a camera that weighs that much. So a year ago I decided to buy something smaller and lighter. I purchased a Sony RX100(M3) pock... Show More

Fantastic!

This little Sony a6000 is a beast packed with exciting features not normally found in DSLRs in the price range. While I long considered getting a typical DSLR, the Nikon D5200, I decided for the Sony in the end, and did not regret it. Using the camera is very easy, wether you're a casual shooter or a seasoned shutterbug. If you're the first, the camera makes it really easy to get great shots every single time. I Love my A6000!

May 22, 2014

Many years ago I was a sharp eyed, clear headed semi-pro photographer. I shot hundreds of images each week and developed them myself in my home darkroom- so I know my way around a camera. I understand shutter speed, f-stops and ISO (formerly ASA) and how they interact.Today, I'm a stressed out Senior with deteriorating eyes who simply wants a great camera that is small enough that I'm willing to take it with me when I go out.So far, the A6000 fit... I have been taking photos by DSLR camera only before. This Sony A6000 set is my first Mirrorless Camera, I bought it mainly for fast point-and-shoot on the run accommodating my big and heavy Nikon DSLRs (two full frame and one APS-C) and Lens (f/2.8 or f/4). Great little camera

Nov 2, 2015

I bought this camera as a lightweight complement to my Canon 5DS R. I also bought the Zeiss 16-70mm lens to go with it. I did resolution tests, and of course it's not as sharp as the 5DS R, but still great for such a small, lightweight combination. Surprisingly, the color aliasing is much worse than the 5DS R. This all goes away when processed. I shoot RAW and process all my pictures in Lightroom. Navigating the menus and controls was more intuit... Show More

I'm an amateur photographer that also has a passion for the outdoors. I have been using Nikon SLRs for years (from the FM2 film camera to the D70 and D90). When I'm out skiing I carry a P&S (Panasonic DMC-ZS30) and when I'm out hiking it's either my P&S or my D90. When I go birding it's my D90 & my Nikon 80-400 zoom. perfect mirrorless system combo for me!

Jul 28, 2014

I bought this after years of point & shoots - I did a portrait project at work with a co-worker's canon sl1 with a great sigma prime and was hooked. I chose the a6000 for a number of reasons: great specs (sensor size, continuous drive, image/video quality) size/weight/build quality (am I comfortable carrying it? am I deathly afraid of a little ding to the body?) ease of use (do i love using it? was it easy to pick up, find settings, get shooting?... Great image quality, a few Sony quirks

Jun 10, 2014

I'm moving up from a Sony NEX-6, and after using it for a couple of weeks I find the A6000 to be a significant improvement. Low light shots are better, and overall I find images to be sharper, less contrasty and containing more accurate color than with the NEX-6. Fairly rugged construction, a nice viewfinder, a tilting display and decent on-camera flash are other positives. So far I'm using only the 16-50mm kit lens (which is better than I expect... Not quite ready for prime time

I returned this camera after five days of trial use - so my impressions are based on modest experience. However I am a semi-professional and have been shooting for many decades. This camera together with the kit lenses did not do the trick, primarily, I believe, because of the lenses. My comments here are an explanation for my reaction... Show More
