Better Than Expected

Oct 23, 2019

I have wanted this camera for a long time but was hesitant to do so because of all of the bad reviews. Not so much on here, but elsewhere. In a lot of ways, it was probably good to go into this camera with the mindset that it was going to be the slowest and most frustrating camera ever made because it is far from that. The autofocus isn't going to win any awards and there doesn't seem to be any tracking, but it is on par with any entry-level DSLR... Show More

A work in progress

Sigma's latest interchangeable lens camera delivers on the mirrorless concept: Live-view electronic viewfinder with manual focus magnification. You can also review images through the viewfinder for better resolution and image quality than the already good rear LCD. I've found image quality generally up to the standard for Quattro Foveon, as previously seen in the DPxQ series of fixed-lens cameras (but it is a new sensor design in the SD Quattro c... Show More

Amazing quality for a fair price !

Nov 14, 2018

I waited for some years to have the guts to buy it. Im a Sigma foveon user since the advent of the SD9 and had or have almost all models, but the Quattro series never convinced me on paper. This year I decided to but the SD Quattro with the 30mm Art lens, more because the lens and I had a very good surprise with the camera. The image quakity from it is on pair with the SD1 Merrill, but less prone to the dreaded red channel blow out and its more... Show More

A capable successor to the Sigma SD1 Merrill

Feb 8, 2017

If you are even reading this, then you no doubt like the Foveon sensor. Otherwise, the compromises would not be worth it. This camera is mirrorless, and takes up less space than the SD1. I wish the manual had been written better. I spent the better part of a day trying to figure out why the diopter was stuck. Unlike most cameras, this one has a knob that lifts upward for adjustment, then must be pushed down. In general, if you are switching from ... Show More

Sigma is getting better and better

Oct 2, 2016

I have been using a Sigma DP1 since 2008, indeed pretty slow camera compare to other PS! But the image quality is just like Slide Filmthat's why I get hooked with Sigma; since then, I have been own SD14, etc.finally I got the SDQ. For those who are consider the image quality, and have to view the image from the LCD patiently. I would recommend this camera. SDQ is new, a lot faster compare to SD14, but it's still slow compare to the Nikon, Canon a... Show More

Just wow.

I own a Sony A65 with 24mp and some nice glass to go with it. But the Sigma SD Quattro so kicks the A65's tail in fine detail and color that it just blows me away. I did quite a bit of research looking primarily at the Sony A7Rii and the Quattro and everything that I could find said that, for still image quality, the SD Quattro matched the A7Rii in detail and gave a MUCH better color rendition than the Sony. And it DOES! The Quattro is hands down... Show More

Slide Film Image Quality in A Digital Body!

Dec 6, 2017

Truly amazed at the IQ this camera system is delivering. I've used every major camera from Canon to Leica S over the last 7 years+. Nothing gets me closer to the rich colors of Velvia 50 likes this Sigma system. The raw files are simply the best. If you want your photography to come to life buy this camera. It will slow you down and make you think more as if you shooting slide film from a SLR, but if you understand the limitations and appreciate ... Show More

A Very Impressive Camera Within Its Limit

Sep 3, 2019

I'm pretty much echoing most of the reviews here. It's a challenging camera which will reward you with impressive photos when used right. The Foveon sensor captures/process lights a bit differently than the usual sensors, hence the results. I've been an adapted-lens shooter and happy it will take some old lenses. Got myself an M42 lens so far. It is a slower camera to work with, but not something you can't work around. I've been taking it out... Show More

If you're looking to do infrared and wondering if this is the way to go - stop reading this review and order this combo. I've provided one infrared shot - I printed this at 17"x22" and look's great this was from a Fine jpg. Also provided is a dng of Dave. The colors from this sensor do have a slide film feel to them. But take off the infrared dust filter and slap on a 72 infrared filter and you can do hand held infrared photography. I love the camera A++ I would give the lens a B+ but it suits infrared very well.

Amazing Low ISO day light camera

Aug 30, 2016

Sigma cameras are niche products for photographers appreciating the foveon sensor quality. I have many sigma mount lenses and I bought this body to use it with my existing lens collection. It is the best ISO 100 camera with superb picture quality. It will not match the Nikon, canon or sony autofocus speed buffer or finder quality. But it will outdo all of them in picture quality at low iso. Beyond ISO 800 the camera is not useable. With the 50-100 f 1.8 the camera really shines in portraiture.

Great tool for a photographer.

Mar 4, 2018

If you learned photography with a film camera using all manual controls, this camera is a great tool to produce outstanding images, it has some "shortcomings" compared to other models on the market, but the images produced is all that counts. Great camera and lens for a fair price, not for the spray and pray and auto everything crowd, just have some extra batteries handy.

excellent camera with incredible image quality. clarity and color rendition is superb. Latitude takes a little getting used to, battery life is meh... but compared to earlier sigma models the usability is excellent. Slower than a DSLR, but not as dramatic a difference as a lot of people make out.

For the Color Aficionado

Sep 17, 2018

I'm not going to rant about this camera. Simply put, it's great (if you have patience and enjoy the process as much as the result). This camera is one you take on your own and when you have time and a tripod. It is a treat, and the results can truly be on a whole other level!

Another fix for a committed Foveonista

I had a dp0 Quattro that got damaged on vacation, thanks to B&H recommending a Square Trade contract I was able to replace it with an SD Quattro, which gives me the same Foveon sensor and lens interchangeability.

This is indeed a unique artisan tool, a film like digital camera for professionals. The specs should not say ISO 6400! At ISO 200 noise is visible.
