I actually came to buy the Grado SR225e. After a year with the SR80e, and also owing an iGrado which I modified by cutting the blue headband into clips like headphones I thought its time to upgrade. Visiting NYC, the B&H store had on display the SR125e, 80e, 60e, GH3 and GH4. Trying on the GH3 and comparing with the SR models I felt a huge difference. The sound from the GH3 came from around the ear and was much fuller and much more three dimentional. Indeed, the GH4 has a little more depth to it (as much as one can appreciate in a busy NYC store) given that all of them are open back. But the GH3 sounded exceptional for the price. I am not sure this is a audiophile earphones - this does not matter to me - I have gave my Shure SRH940, which sounds quite precise to me to my son, who is more into professional music. I enjoy the GH3 immensely with classic, pop, rock and jazz music. The mids on this set is not as forwards as in the shures and the highs are quite strong: for my age, the latter is an advantage. I give it five since I think they are amazing. They are not perfect though: clearly its a hand made pair. Its not perfect. Some points of missing color on the back grill, some small fiber or little hair that you cannot remove stuck on the front cover, the hole for the cable on one side seems to big and I had to glue it to avoid little disturbances when moving my head (actually, I had to do these minor fixes to all of my 3 grado headphones), etc. Also, I think the fac that the cable is not detachable is a problem, since the wood construction is not only on the outside. However, this pair of headphones sound like over 50 years of experience, its great! ... More

The GH3 is physically much smaller than the GH1, 2, or 4, but the sound is right up there with its larger Heritage cousins. One caveat is the bass, which due to the slimmer earcups is not as strong, but the quality and dynamics of the drivers is so good that a typical bass-boost function brings the bass up to their level with no loss of quality.
