WD 6TB My Book Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
It works great
Works right out of the box. I connected it to a TABLO DVR with no difficulty, Records, plays, and/or delete TV recordings. It also runs surprisingly cool (as compared to my previous experience of comparable devises in years past.

Does not seem compatible for use as mac time machine back up
After several tries trying to get the WD My Book to start backing up as my mac time machine external hard drive, I have given up. It has been three days and it has slowed to about 25 gb per day. I used to use Lacie and it completed a whole back up easily in a matter of 5 hours. Not sure what the problem is but after trying everything listed online it is still running slow.I cannot recommend this HD for use with macs.

It doesnt work
Ill have to try it again. I installed it and it worked for 1 week then my PC froze. I had to remove the USB3 from my PC and my pc is back in service, but the unit does not work I will be in touch with you soon

Fast, quiet, tricky setup on Mac
Fortunately WDs tech service was responsive. Ive erased and reformatted many drives but the WD instructions were misleading and resulted in an unmountable drive. WD techies had to use an in-house tool to format. Reinstalling WD Drive Utilities went better, as they get erased in 1st step. You also must disable Apples put drives to sleep when possible as it interferes with WD sleep. All good now.

Good for desktop backup
Good for desktop backup, solid feel and build. I prefer Thunderbolt for my MAC but the price is lower for USB 3.0

Whoa, 10 TB!
I was in need of more storage space, and short of buying myself my own cloud I resorted to two 10 TB hard drives. The transfer from my original 4 TB drive was slow, but that may be as much a computer issue as a hard drive issue. I never had any WD drives fail on me, and they are reasonably priced.

Great External Hard Drive
My 3 TB Seagate External Hard Drive went along with 80000 images. I was devastated . Luckily I had done GoodSync Backup and was able to get all my images back onto this 6 TB WD External Hard Drive. I bought two of these , the second one for backup. I plan to buy a third to keep off site.

no LED light or other signal is confusing
This device works fine, neither faster or slower than other similar. But the absence of any indicator showing that the device is "on", transferring data, or is just active at all, such as LED light commonly present in older WD MyBooks and other brands, is quite confusing.

An affordable storage option
We archive show files that are just a bit under 1Tb each. Had issues with the WD 8Tb but the 4Tb seems to be reliable for our archive/storage needs with zero malfunctions in 30 + drives purchased during the year.

economic, but not the best
I bought it for its great capacity and low cost, I always use LACIE and I must say that the quality of construction is superior with respect to WD, I rely more on Seagate discs of Lacie in exchange for wd, time will tell

Box says contents: Hard drive, various software, cable, adapter, and install guide. No software or install guide in box. Had to search web site to find info and software.

READ THIS if you plan on PASSWORD protecting your drive!!!
I just got 2 of these as well as 2 of the portable WD 4TB My Passport drives (B&H # WEMP4WDBYFB). WD's portable drives are 5 stars, because you can password protect them and when you connect your drive to a new computer, there's a small 30MB partition on the drive that acts as a virtual CD-ROM to autoplay the WD Unlocker softward. Very good drive
Would have given it 5 stars but it had no instructions and came with a boot partition on the drive that hung the machine on reboot until I change the BIOS settings to avoid looking at USB drives.

Better Value
I replaced using a 1TB with this 8TB external hard drive for backing up my computer's internal hard drive monthly. The cost of 1TB was 2/3 of the cost of 8TB and now I don't drop off older backups. Easy enough to reformat for an iMac which you will need to do before your first backup. B&H computer reps will guide you through the first time; they are always willing to assist. I wrote the steps down and have done it solo 2X since.

Great for cross-platform file sharing
I have been trying for over a year to find a single hard drive that could be read by a Linux system as well as a Windows system. This came exFAT formatted. It works! This solved a lot of problems for me.

Careful if you plan on Shucking the drive
The hdd itself work really well, cant say much about the enclosure, as i have only use them inside my PC, to me they are relatively quiet (not as quiet as 3tb reds though), but some tend to vibrate some, not a bad drives, specially for the current pricing. Solid performer like the rest
I've used WD drives for about 10 years: 250GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, 6TB, 8TB, and now the 10TB. I mainly need for many thousands of wildlife photos. I always have a second drive which mirrors my primary. Every now and then a drive will act up after a few years and WD will replace if it is registered. I'd like SSD's but they are too expensive. I generally get a new WD drive every two years.
