Works exactly as expected
I have this setup as an external backup device... one of three that I keep in rotation. Works exactly as expected and if the previous two I own are any indication, this unit should be around for quite a while.

Great Drive
Very quiet. Very fast. If you're going to reformat to APFS, which I did, I suggest finding instructions online first. After I did that, I had zero problems. As always, B&H has great prices and fast shipping.

Seems to work fine
Hooked this up and transferred 1 Tb to it as third backup for my photos. Did not install any of the software that comes with as I already use WD Acronis True image for my system backups. So far working fine.

It works.
Pros - Large capacity. Runs without getting too hot. Cons - Power cord/plug is non-standard. Don't lose the power cord! No on/off switch. No LED light to indicate operational status. Overall - It works.

I love WD hard drives! Simply plug it in and you're good to go. As a video producer, I'm amassing quite a collection of hard drives. I love the 4TB capacity of this drive because it holds a ton of files.

Great for cross-platform file sharing
I have been trying for over a year to find a single hard drive that could be read by a Linux system as well as a Windows system. This came exFAT formatted. It works! This solved a lot of problems for me.

So far, so good.
I have a number of these drives. The new iteration doesn't have an activity light which is too bad. It also makes some muffled sounds when operating. Other than that it is operating as intended thus far.

There is NO led to tell you when the drive is active, but it is LOUD when it is working. I have not put anything on it as yet and it sound like every 10-15 sec. the drive is active. I hope it well last?

Pretty good
Looks nice. The speeds are good. In case you wanna swap the HDD in this case, you ought to cut the VCC leg of a flash chip on the board - shame on you, WD, for preventing people swapping the inside HDD.

I would buy again

OK, but!
The W.D.drive is a good value and works fantastic.. The Western digital backup software has a lot of issues.. not recognizing drives. I ended up getting a third party backup software and all is well.

So far no problems
It is fairly quiet. It sleeps/wakes up with my Windows 7 laptop, although it take some time to spin up and get re-recognized. However, not the really long lags I have had with older external drives.

Works fine, louder than previous offerings.
Works fine after 3 months however it seems to be a bit louder than the previous version. Not a real issue for me as its purely for occasional backups however it might drive me crazy for daily use.

Very good drive
Would have given it 5 stars but it had no instructions and came with a boot partition on the drive that hung the machine on reboot until I change the BIOS settings to avoid looking at USB drives.

Does its job
I use this drive to back up my images, therefore it is a drive that I use once in a while, only when I have new images. It is working just as it should. It seems reliable so far. I am satisfied.

Works as expected
The hard drive is used as a backup usb drive. I did perform a full reformat to NTFS - took about 18 hours with no detectable errors. I have already used about 60% and am pleased with it.

Dying
I have used many WD external drives. No problems. I purchased this on 7/23/19. Started using it on 8/15/19. Already making a sharp bleep sound, which tells me it bad. Very disappointed.

Great value, but noisy
Great value for the money...The drive is a little noisier than I expected. But then again, this for backup purposes only which I do every monrh. I can live with the noise for the price!

Excellent
Easy to use and a one-time cost. I used another brand and found out you need an annual subscription after I bought it. A great feature is that you can back-up files exactly as they are.

Have had great luck with WD My Book
I recently purchased this HD for digitizing 25 years worth of HI-8 video tapes, works great, will use with PC and Mac Book Pro. I would recommend this WD Hard drive, they are great

Probably not. Probably should check out Carbonite.
Do not like the fact that you cannot connect this drive without plugging it in and then unplugging it when you turn the computer off. Without doing this your desktop will not boot.

Sweet, but one missing feature
Can't beat the price for a lot of storage, but I just wish it had a power switch. But I understand most if not all WD drives are missing this feature, so I guess I can't be picky.

Too slow
With only 1 USB port and no other type of connection, it took nearly 6 days to backup 5 TB. I wish they would have put day an "on light" so that you can tell unit is powered up.
