Sigma 10-20 f3.5 EX

Sep 30, 2009

I have had the Sigma f3.5 EX a little over 2 weeks now and I am very satisfied with it. I bounced between the Canon 10-22, Tokina 11-16 and the Sigma 10-20 f4-f5.6. I could have saved a lot of money on the original Sigma but I liked the constant f3.5 that this new one sports. I have been in several low-light situations (a church and indoor shots) that confirmed this. I know the Tokina would even be better at f2.8, however I felt the 11-16 was too... Show More

Best of All worlds

Oct 13, 2009

I pondered for quite a while before making the choice to go with this comparatively new member of the UWA zoom line up for APS-C sensor bodies. The 3 lenses I had in the mix were the 10-22 Canon EF-S, the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and this lens. After reading numerous reviews on all three I made the plunge. I am very glad I did. Firstly, let me say that the only reason I gave the lens 4 stars was the due to the fairly pronounced CA between f3.5 and 5.0. ... Show More

Great Lens But....

Aug 28, 2010

I have now taken more than 1000 pictures under various conditions of many different subjects and feel somewhat qualified to give an educated review of this lens The lens is very sharp with good color rendition in most cases with generally good flare resistance. Overall, colors seem to be slightly warmer than my Canon lenses but saturation and contrast are good. Now the reason I am unable to give this lens a five star rating; CA is bad enough that... Great ultra-wide choice!

Apr 18, 2014

There are lots of good choices in the ultra-wide angle Nikon DX lens category. I ended up choosing the Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 because it strikes a nice balance between focal length range, optical performance and cost. I was looking for a lens to supplement my Nikon 16-85mm and provide better performance at the wide end. The Sigma does that nicely with low distortion where the lenses overlap (16-20mm).As for the Sigma's performance, I have no complain... Show More

Excellent Lens!

Mar 13, 2016

I'll keep this short and simple - if you want an ultra-wide lens for your Pentax K that is NOT a fisheye, this is what you want. For the price, it cannot be beat. The Pro's - excellent build, and excellent Glass. There is a little tiny bit of softness at 10mm wide-open, that sharpens-up quickly at 5.6 and above. Think about this - if you are a hobbyist (I no longer shoot Pro), then it's probable that if you're shooting at 10mm wide-open, you're pr... Show More

Exactly what I needed

Sep 6, 2011

I bought this ultra wide for my D80 and it does exactly what I needed it for. I had been using the 18-55 kit lens for a long time and found that landscape shots were missing that really deep look. I also struggled taking shots indoors where I wanted to show the entire scene. Museums, historical villages, airplane hangars, etc. I bought this lens knowing that UW lenses suffer from vignetting and distortion and this lens is no different. But like a... Show More

Solid wide zoom at a solid price

May 12, 2011

After doing a considerable amount of research including testing several lenses such as the Tokina 11-16, 12-24 DXII, and Nikon 12-24, I had determined that the Sigma was the right fit for me and so far I'm confident that I made the right decision. As an architect venturing into some architectural photography along with some landscape and social photography, I was looking to find a wide zoom with the ability to capture images in low light with low... GREAT except at about 3 feet focus

Jul 23, 2011

For APS-C sensors you won't get a better wide angle lens than this. Canon makes a pretty decent one and I think the 10mm of this one is equally as good. The one thing that I've found to work around is the focus at about 3 feet and f/3.5. You have infinity focus at about 3 feet when shooting at f/3.5, then at about 2.9 feet you need to focus it just slightly. So basically from 2-3 feet you're going to get a weird focus range. It's like half infini... Show More

Not worth the money - It does not work

Aug 4, 2013

I had the Sigma 10-20 F/4 - 5.6 and with limited use and it suddenly would not longer focus. I sent it off to be repaired and it still does not work after $172.00 worth of repairs. It worked right out of the box and when I went to use it on a shoot it would not focus. I was out of the my 30 day repair warranty. So we purchased the 10-20 f/3.5 two weeks before vacation and when we get on vacation and go to use the lens, JUNK, it will not focus on ... Show More

Good indoor lens

Nov 16, 2011

Bought this as to accompany my Sigma 10mm fisheye as that lens sometimes is a bit too extreme. The 10-20 works well, have a consistent output and of course that awesome trademark Sigma sharpness, color and contrast. The Sigma colors and superior sharpness over Canon are the main reasons why I now have switched all my lenses from Canon L-series to Sigma. Love what Sigma do with colors and contrast! The 10-20 is well built and the zoom-ring have a ... Show More

Great lens, good price

Apr 25, 2014

This lens is great for capturing a very wide field of view. That makes it highly useful photographing rooms, landscapes or any composition where you want to include a wide scene. I like the fast, constant f3.5 max aperture, and the lens is very well constructed. If you want to know the gritty details,...... It is soft in the corners at 10mm and f3.5, but it improves quickly with increasing focal length and smaller apertures. In practice the corne... Show More

I would buy this again and recommend it

Aug 26, 2017

I purchased this lens for nature & landscape photography. I can say with this focal length I won't miss any photos anymore. I shoot with Nikon D810 for professional work and a D1500 for personal fun work. I've now shot with this lens on my D810 DX format and the images are sharp, clean, clear and beautiful with the full dynamic range available. With the D1500 the images have the same results! It is also quite light to handle. In addition, I can n... Show More

Impressive Quality

Jan 3, 2014

I hesitated at first on choosing this lens over the f/4.5 version or the Sigma 8-16mm. I wanted the extra stop over the 4.5 and I didn't like the idea of not being able to use filters like the 8-16mm. Sure you can buy a cumbersome attachment that allows you to use square filters on the 8-16mm but I wanted a walk-around quick lens that was relatively compact. I shoot a lot of classic cars which I haven't done yet with lens since its winter here in... Show More

Excellent and Wonderful for creativity

Dec 21, 2012

First up, I have a small selection of lenses now and this is definitely my favorite lens at the moment. The build is excellent. Nice feel to the zoom ring and manual focus is pretty reasonable (for an AF lens). The 82mm thread may seem like a disadvantage but in fact has the advantage that I can use a filter without vignetting. Optically its very good. The frame center is sharp from f3.5 across the zoom range. My only criticism is that corners ca... Show More

It's Good!

Aug 18, 2015

I'm using this with a GH4/Canon EF SpeedBooster combo and overall I'm very pleased. I haven't noticed any crazy chromatic aberration. There IS some vignetting when shooting at the widest focal lengths, but it's really nothing to write home about. If you're using a SpeedBooster, you can use it as a 10-14-ish lens and you should be fine. This is really more of an effect lens anyway. I've used this on a couple of fashion shoots so far. I did have so... Show More

Good, but not great.

Jul 15, 2016

I chose this lens as my first wide angle lens based purely on price/value (25% discount off of the regular price, very good specs), and after carefully considering all the reviews. The reviews that specifically mentioned the soft focus issue made me hesitant at first, but I figured I could handle that in the edit, so I took the plunge. After shooting several sets of photos in various locations and situations, my impression is that, while the focu... Show More

excellent ultra wide lens

Jul 10, 2012

The lens is great for those shots you want to cram a lot of what you see in a photograph. It is teriffic for buildings, landscapes or museum artifacts, where you can not afford to step back. It also works great for photos where you want a disproportionately large object to be included with your candid (e.g. take a person's photo in full height while including all of Seattle's space needle, being within 1/4 mile from the Needle). Jul 27, 2016

I just purchased this lens, so I have very little experience with it. I gave it four stars because so far, so good. From the early results, it looks like it will fill my wide angle lens needs just fine, but I can't see giving it a perfect score. Not yet at any rate. That may come later through use. I do want to point out some things that a buyer needs to know before purchasing this lens, though. First, the lens autofocus only works on Pentax came... Show More

Wide Angle for my Quiver

I am an amateur photographer using a Nikon D7100. I have had good experiences with other Sigma lenses (a 50-100mm f/1.8 Arts lens, and a 70-200mm f/2.8 Sports lens) that I primarily use for dog show photography. I wanted to add a wide angle lens to my quiver and couldnt be happier with the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM. This was the first lens I've purchased outside of the Kit lens that came with my Nikon D90. I could tell right off the bat that this lens was for real. It is much more solid, with more metal parts, and precise handling. The focusing speed is great and the constant aperture makes it nice for photographing indoors in low light. Purchased as shared lens at small newspaper. Considered this and Tokina's 11-16. For our purposes we felt the Tokina zoom range was too limiting, so we chose Sigma. No regrets. The lens is always checked out by one of our staff. Ability to zoom in a little allows staff to shoot dramatic wide angles as well as shots that look close to normal without having to change lenses. Fixed aperture makes it fast enough for some action usage. Good build qual... Show More

Landscape Lens I was Looking for

Jan 17, 2016

I have had this lens only for a short while and so far it is taking lovely pictures. Where there are problems, it is clearly operator error--takes some getting used to because it's very different from what I was using before. I have some vision issues that make focusing on manual tricky. And I'm very picky about results because I enlarge and frame for exhibit.
