Perfect value for the price
For Christmas I was thrilled to receive a Platypod Ultra! I knew in advance that I was getting the Platypod, so I stared my ball head search in mid-December on B&H. After narrowing down the field, I started watching a few video reviews, and I finally decided on theOben BC-126. It seemed to be the perfect ball head for the price. It had everything I needed: - 26.4 lb Load Capacity - Arca-Type Compatible Quick Release - Tension Control - Separate ... Show More

Love/Hate relations with this tilt head.
This tripod head is great but not great. It is great in that it does what I want. I love what it is capable of doing. I love the features it is capable of and the different measuring levels on this Tripod head to make sure the camera is level. This tripod head has three levels on it. It has a very good quick release with two buttons on the side to release the camera off the quick release. The quick release is very easy get the camera attached on ... Show More

Why did Oben make the tripod 2 longer than the CT-2481?
The Oben CT-2481 was a great tripod with a working height of55 without extending the center column and a collapsed length of 21.2. Why Oben replaced it with the CT-2481 that is 2.1 inches longer at 23.3 when folded and otherwise the same tripod is a wonder. Most travel luggage is 22 long on the outside and 21.5 inside and so the CT-2481 would barely fit along the side of the case but the CT-2491 need to be placed diagonally and take up a lot more... This tripod serves a very specific purpose: steady photos and videos in rugged/extreme conditions. Solid construction, high quality parts, and (bonus) its not difficult to travel with.

Camera NOT Secure
Please correct me if Im wrong! I put on a 70-200 on my Canon body (D1x Mll) and the mounting plate and attached it on the tripod. The camera soon loosens from the plate and is not secure and tight, completely defeats the purpose of a tripod. If you want to pan forget it because the ball loosens with the horizontal pan. Aside from not being able to use it, the other features are great. Good height and excellent for low angles. Really nice have the hook on the bottom of the post to attach some weight.

Everything you could possibly want in a ball head!
This is an all around excellent ball head! It is super sturdy and feels well made. The tension adjusters are superb and allow for silky smooth movement even when shooting video. The large knob adjusts the lock of the ball itself and can be perfectly fine-tuned. The plate is solid and has zero play when tightened down. The stud even has a nice D-ring for attaching to a camera without additional tools. There is a bubble level on the top next to the... Show More

Love the flip-locks.
So much happier using a tripod with flip-locks. Previously owned tripods had screw-locks which drove me nuts. I think I can get used to these and use a tripod more frequently.

Maybe ok for the tropics,, but garbage when its cold
It seemed like a great bargain. In the summer this tripod head worked fine, but its truly bad and nearly useless when it gets cold. Just last month I took it out for a late fall excursion, to capture a late night, long exposure pano. I loosened the pan lock knob and could not rotate the head at all. It was totally locked. I had to do the shot by loosening the ball lock and rotating it by the ball, which one should agree is a sub-optimal behavior ... Show More

Everything I wanted at a third of the cost.
I was looking for a stable, lighter weight tripod that had legs long enough that I didnt have to use the center column, had available spiked feet and wasnt a lot of money. When B&H put the Oben CT-2491 on sale for $299 I couldnt pass it up. I am glad I got it as it has everything I was looking for, does everything I need and works like a charm.

Very good but not a Gitzo
I got this tripod to take on hikes. For what I wanted, its great. Its not as strong as my Gitzo but weighs a lot less. It is stable enough for my D800 and 70 - 200 lens. What I dont like. To lock unlock the legs requires a 3/4 turn unlike the 1/4 turn on my Gitzo. Annoying but ok. If the center column is all the way down there is a little wobble. Raise it up 1 inch and it is good. Excellent for the sale price.

Stable, Smooth, and Excellent Quality
I bought the Oben Gimbal and CF Tripod after seeing a few reviews online, and Ive been extremely satisfied with the purchase. Having used this now for almost a year, I have no complaints whatsoever. The rotation and movements are smooth, and easily to lock down. I often shoot in low light situations with a heavy lens (Sony E-Mount 70-200) and the extended shutter requires a stable platform - always works great. I recently bought a second setup for use with my second camera. Rock Solid.

Lightweight and strong
Had it for a couple of weeks now and in the field 4 or 5 times. Im happy with it. Although theres a fair amount of plastic in the design its worked well. My first twist lock tripod took some time to adapt. Ive only owned Manfrottos with flip locks. Well see how it stands up after a year of duty. So far so good.

Unreliable legs
Two weeks into ownership on first field trip, when extending legs second section dropped completely from top section of one leg, followed by bits of broken plastic. Inspection revealed Oben uses a white plastic sleeve around top of second section as a retainer and this had broken when contacting the thin black plastic ferrule within adjustment nut, which then also broke. This mechanism is too flimsy to be trusted. Another reviewer had same issue ... Show More

multiple issue
- the knob controls horizontal rotation is twisted when arriving - quick release plate is too slippery to tight the camera for angled shots. My camera with lens is less than 5 pounds. No where compare to my old other plates ( not this brand) - it was very tricky to tight the three screws between the tripod and this head. Tripod and head are the same brand. If the screws were set too loose, the head could rotate off by itself, if the screw were set slightly too tight, the head will be locked and won't rotate horizontally. It seems to be an impossible issue, but it does take place.

Excellent Ball-head
I bought this head to use on a small travel tripod with a micro four thirds camera/lens, its unique tension control, and it is small enough that it does not change the folded size. It is outstanding! The fit and finish are excellent, and everything moves smoothly. The clamp has a two bubble levels, one on the top and the other built into the locking know of the clamp, so both are visible even with your camera in place. The clamp also has mar... Show More

Great Quality
Only had this for a short time but it works well. Solid build with adjustment knobs that are smooth with a precision feel. Love the separate knob for locking/unlocking rotation. Great for panoramic shooting. The safety protrusions on the Arca style quick release makes it less likely that I will dump my rig on the cement.

Worked fine with some quirks, until one day at the beach...
I really liked this tripod. It was somewhat affordable, lightweight and did a fine job as a tripod which was certainly a big step below Gitzo and RRS, but at a big step below them in price. However, there were some gripes from day 1 and a recent trip to the Oregon Coast rendered the tripod dead in the water...literally. First, the center column is somewhat loose in the center and tightening it would take care of most of the play but it would... Show More

Smooth as butter
I use it with a platypod with great results. It allows for a low perspective with wide angle lens at ground level, for example. Well made, smooth, stable.

An Excellent and Affordable Tripod System
I am very pleased with the quality of functionality of the Oben AC-1451tripod and the PD-117 Pan/Tilt Head. It adjusts quickly and smoothly. The affordable price was a factor in my choice and I'm pleased to see that the quality was not sacrificed. The ability to split the center column and get ground-level positioning was the second factor .

Works for me with Sigma 150-600 Sport
I read the reviews. When it arrived first thing I did was check the raised center column. It wobbled. I removed the column and ran the tightener in and out (tight and loose) until it threaded smoothly to each end. You can look down the opening and watch the mechanism. Mine was binding as it closed even without the column. I worked it until it closed smoothly. When I replaced the center column it was able to tighten properly. Seems it needs to be ... Show More

Great ball head on my 2nd one due to defect!
I had this ball head on my previous Manfrotto tripod (that was lost somewhere). Anyway I purchased a new tripod and this ballhead just because it worked before and was within budget. This one however had issues with being loose. The issue was within the base of the quick release plate and the ballhead. Whenever I would align the camera (A7rII w/85mm) vertically and let go the whole assembly would move a fraction of an inch. No matter what I ... Show More
