Closer to a 70D/80D than a 5D Mark IV

Dec 14, 2017

Overall I like it. Full frame and decent burst speed. Build quality is not what I expected to my 5D mark iv. Kind of plastic feeling and the shutter has a bit of a tin can sound to it. The wheel on the back is too small and cheesy feeling. Never owned an original 6D, but had assumed this would be a much smaller step down from a 5D mark iv. In my mind I thought it would be a 5D mark iv, with a smaller sensor and lack of 4K video. That's really wha... Show More

Awesome- maintain your perspective - It's an entry level FF

Aug 26, 2017

Ok, I get it, everyone wants it to be as good or better than the 5dmdIV at the 6D price but that's not reasonable - remember it's and entry level FF Body. I've had the camera for a two weeks and have enjoyed it very much. The image quality is a huge step up from my previous body APS-C body. The Flip/Touch screen is incredibly useful. The video capabilities were great the auto focus tracked extremely well and the video quality was great even though it's not 4K. Could it be a professional's primary body? No, but it's a fantastic for the recreational photographer looking for their first FF body.

Canon 6D Mk ii is worth it

Aug 26, 2017

As someone who is still getting his bearings through my photo education, I wanted this camera as my 60D was dying. I did a lot of review looking, and was hesitant at first. However it performs better than most cameras that I have personally handled, and for the price it is great for anyone who wants to get into the full frame camera market. Its flexibility in angles and also its dynamic range made it something that felt really powerful to me. If you know you want something more powerful though, maybe save up more for it. But If you have a chance to check it out, I would recommend it.

Great camera

Jan 15, 2020

I had an 80D, but wanted a full frame camera, so I upgraded to the 6D Mark II and never looked back. I don't shoot video, so not having 4K isn't an issue for me. That being said, the small amount of video I have done with it has been great. I mainly shoot nature and landscapes, and the 6D Mark II does a wonderful job. The flip around screen is very helpful in many situations to get that right shot. I also purchased the battery pack for extended shooting time. Couldn't be happier with this camera. I don't feel it's getting the great reviews it deserves. Another great from Canon.

An okay upgrade from the 6D Mark II

Jun 19, 2018

I purchased this camera because I wanted better autofocus and the tilt/flip screen with dual pixel AF in live view. It has that. I also got it for very cheap with a coupon, and it included the grip. I am quite tired of having such a tiny area of the viewfinder covered by AF points, and I am not really thrilled with most aspects of this camera. It is better than the 6D and will allow me to keep using my Canon lenses for a few more months while I decide whether to jump ship to Nikon or Sony. If the 5D Mark IV had a tilt screen, I would have gotten that instead.

Hobgoblin of a camera

Dec 15, 2017

So I bought a 6d II. Yes. Even after reading all the negatives about the sensor not being better then the orig 6d. Well here's a 6400 iso handheld. 1/15th secs. Minimal post processing with NO NOISE REDUCTION. I'd say excellent for 90% of us. The touch activated shutter is a blast and the high iso performance two-ups the original 6d. Don't get me started on the creative benefits of the 360 degree flippy screen. Oh. And the video auto focus is excellent on my tamron 24-70mm 2.8. Everything is FASTER. If you can score the 6dII under $1500 - it's the buy of the year.

For all the people who pixel peep and care about specs

Sep 1, 2017

This camera is amazing, i have used it and it went beyond my expectations, Here is a message for all the people who pixel peep and complain about the dynamic range. It does not matter about dynamic range, photography is getting the right shot not about how much dynamic range a camera has!, if you cant get a good shot with an 300$ Canon t5 then this camera is not for you. For all the future buyers: if you are a photographer and you need the latest and cheapest priced full frame camera then this is the one. Dynamic range is just an excuse to taking terrible photos.

Great Camera if it weren't for Canon's Machinations!

Oct 4, 2017

This camera could have been the ideal filmmakers' camera! I love it in every way; however, Canon decided to take a step back and have no i-Frame video, no clean HDMI out (at all!), No 4K (which ok ... but no clean HDMI out at even 720p?!! Are you kidding me?! I don't know why Canon doesn't go all out on one of its cameras. I wish this camera had all these I mentioned but was labeled as 1Dc Mk ii!! I would have bought it at those prices if it was a full frame 4K camera with those features! Otherwise, the 1080p image in this camera is great, even though it's IPB.

I can't understand how people put reviews on and rate items without buying and actually spend time with the camera! I can tell you I am giving it a thorough check as I purchased this before my trip to Alaska. I have nothing but high praises for this camera, so far shooting daily for a week. I also have a 7d mark ii but wanted a full frame but was not ready to spend for the 5d. I will update this review in more details and pics on my return. But if you are looking for a great full frame camera listen to people who are owners and see what they have to say

Wonderful improvements

Dec 6, 2017

I used the 6D for 4+ years and wanted to continue with a full frame camera while letting it become my back-up. The 6DMkII has some wonderful improvements from faster focusing, more clicks per second and high ISO improvement. The one feature I didn't anticipate liking as much as I do is the touch screen. I knew it would be beneficial for low angle pics but I didn't realize how much easier it is to make setting changes using it. I really enjoy the benefits of a full frame camera and I'm looking forward to many years of photography with this one.

So much better

Feb 3, 2018

I just recently got back into photography and pulled my t5i out of the closet. That camera still takes good pictures but I decided it was time to upgrade. The t5i didn't have the iso capabilities for night photography. The 6dmarkii definitely does! I love this camera. Ergonomics, full frame sensor, and the dynamic range is amazing. Price point is good for a full frame. Who wouldn't love to have the 5D Mark IV? But for and extra $1500 I decided against it. Not upset that I did. Stop debating if you are and take the plunge. You won't regret it!

Great camera.

Mar 25, 2019

I purchased this camera mainly for still photographs... as a hobby. No 4K? Not a problem. This camera when combined with a fast 85mm f/1.8 or a 28mm f/2.8 lens captures fantastic images. The perceived problem of focus points being in the center is a non-issue for me... This is because when used with a fast lens, the autofocus is instantaneous. It behaved like a point-and-shoot.. even in Af mode. For details, see the first pictures taken... right outside of B&H on the same day of purchase. https://www.flickr.com/photos/156904696@N08/albums

Defective

Jun 3, 2019

Out of the box brand new and it would not hold the time and date and would not allow RAW picture mode to be set in the picture quality mode -JPEG only. B&H would not send a replacement and then od course I would return the defective product. No I have to return this defective camera at my expense and then wait until they decide to repair or exchange. B&H offered to sell me another camera and then credit me when the defective camera is returned -yea right! I'm not satisfied! All my other camera equipment is Canon, lens, flash, and a D5.

A good camera and that's it.

Aug 28, 2017

I sold my 5D mk III and bought this camera as I needed something lighter and (relatively) equally powerful. Tilty flippy screen and wifi sealed the deal. The build quality is fine, but sadly it does not compare to the 5D. For me this is an upgrade as the video and LV shooting is actually now usable compared to the 5D. It is largely unexciting camera and feels like old tech even though it was just released. I still wonder if I should have jumped ship to Sony. Maybe in the next few years once I downsize my lens collection.

Love this camera!

Dec 8, 2019

I must admit I was a little nervous reading reviews about the dynamic range of this camera. I shoot RAW and wanted to make a move to full frame though, so I gave it a try. I have not experienced any dynamic range problems throughout a variety of shooting conditions and have had no problem with noise or detail when opening shadows or taming highlights. I have yet to shoot it in really bright conditions because I live in Minnesota and it is December (ha ha). I am very happy with the quality of this camera!

My cool 6D II

Dec 14, 2017

I had a 6D for many years and photographed many sailing regattas and rhythmic gymnastics with excellent results. With one cross-type AF the process was challenging, but it worked for me with few misses. Unfortunately on my last regatta I ended up in the salt water with all my gear. At last my 6D II arrived and love the expanded centre focus. It now is great for fast moving gymnasts, also improved FPS at 6.5 is perfect. 4K does not interest me, so I now have what I need and many more cool features.

I love it!

Aug 22, 2017

I'm a cosplay photographer and I've been using a 70D for the past 4 years. It was pretty amazing for a crop sensor camera. But I needed a full fame, and the 6D mark 2 came, and it was like handling my old 70D again but better. The photos are amazing and functionality is great, there is not much in the re-learning process either, its pretty much same stuff. My only cons are that I wish the AF points were more spread out, and the view finder was 100% not 98%. Great camera highly recommend.

6d to 6d Mark II

I had a 6d that I just loved. I had a T5i before that had an articulated touchscreen. I really missed that feature but the rest of the camera was great. When the new one came out I read everything I could find and went back and forth trying to decide what to do. I took the plungeeven though my camera was only about a year old. Not sorry I did. I love the screen and the added AF points and some of the other features make it worth it. I am happy with my decision. Take the plunge!

The 6D Mark II is all that and a bag of chips! Despite all the negative publicity it has received when it's specs were first released, in real world scenarios, this camera is a joy to operate. All I can say, so far the pros out weigh the cons with this camera, and I'm glad I bought it. For those hobiest that simply want a full frame camera, this camera is gonna do the job. Professionals might want to look else where because yes, this camera only has one memory card slot.

Aug 27, 2017

Nice upgrade, After selling my 80D and getting the 6D, I missed using the tilt swivel screen and fast AF, I finally gave in and bought the 6D MKII, it performed the way I was expecting it, a full frame 80D. The AF and tilt swivel screen was enough for me to get it. This so-called DR issue is overblown and most people talks about it never bought the camera and relies on this tech sites, Learn how to properly expose and refine your post processing techniques.

Great Bang for your buck!

May 22, 2018

I got this camera in November and I was used to the 6D Mk1 and this one is a big upgrade, especially for video. The in-body image stabilizer is a BIG Plus for me since some of my lenses don't have IS and I notice the stability from the 6D mk1 to the mk2. The only minor complaint is the audio level monitor, it only shows up in manual mode but I can live with it as long as I use my external monitor with the headphone jack to check the audio from time to time.

I jumped from t5 so I don't regret it. planning to use it for pretty much everything from shooting to filming.

Great Entry Full Frame

Aug 24, 2017

I had been trying to save some cash to get the 5D Mark IV, but when this camera was announced, I decided to purchase this instead. If you can spring for the 5D Mark IV, go ahead. On a budget but still want a great full frame DSLR? This is the camera for you. The 6D Mark II is a step up from my previous 20D(which I have retired), and my still in use 70D. I was looking to use it mostly for real estate photography and so far it has performed wonderfully.
