I hate the thing!

Sep 3, 2019

The Pro-1000 obstinately refuses to print on any paper size other than a handful of selected useless sizes when I try to print directly from Photoshop. For example, I'd like to print on 13x19 paper. Oh no. It insists that I set in letter size with a 1 margin on the top and bottom. Their lame Canon Print Studio Pro does a little (not much) better, but it's painfully slow. I'm trying to create color profiles for papers (e.g. Epson) with my Color Mu... Show More

Simple setup and beautiful prints

Jan 22, 2017

Picked up this printer to cut out the middle man a bit with regards to standard prints up to 16x24. Printer was pretty much plug and play for me. I love watching my work come out of the printer with every print job. My initial month of using it I've made a little over 90 prints. 95% of those are on LTR size paper and the remaining 5% have been on A3+ and 17x25 sized paper. That's consumed most of the initial ink load for colors black, grey and th... Show More

More user-friendly than my old Epson 3880

Dec 17, 2016

I bought this to replace an Epson 3880 that died suddenly. I'm very happy with the print quality and more happy with how user-friendly this printer seems to be. In the past I often fought with sheets not wanting to feed correctly into the 3880 & I've had zero issues so far with this printer. Also I'm liking the Canon Print Studio Pro software which effortlessly gives me even borders and even appears to prevent me printing landscape when I've load... Show More

Beyond my expectations...

Dec 28, 2018

My landscape images have a lot of complex color and so I have high expectations. This printer delivers. It produces vibrant and sharp images even with moderate grades of paper. I decided to buy a professional printer after my frustration with a local shop that couldnt achieve the results I was looking for. Im amazed I can do better with a printer that probably cost less than theirs, but no doubt a huge benefit is being able to control the print p... Show More

Awesome Print Quality, But Has Some Issues

Apr 18, 2016

So far printing quality on the standard Canon Pro Luster has been excellent - better than my defunct Epson 4900 after running through portraits, black and whites, landscapes, etc. Loving the replaceable print head! Minor Cons - Slow between sheets (timed about 2 minutes between prints - to be fair, this may be an issue with the computer). No roll capability. Real Con - Every so often while printing borderless, the print head starts hitting the ba... Show More

Great so far

Jan 23, 2017

I was excited and hesitant about investing in a pro printer as I had so man people warn me that they are too costly an too time consuming. Canon made a lot of promises about this particular printer and when my mentor, Sue Bryce recommended it, I took the plunge. I have been very happy with it. It is large and heavy and there have been a few settings that I had to adjust to have the best results, but so far, it is so much nicer to make my own prin... Show More

Well worth the investment

Nov 12, 2018

After years of farming out my prints I decided to take the plunge and get a professional grade photo printer for myself. After tons of research I decided on the Canon printer over the Epson printers because of the build quality, changeable print head and capabilities of the printer. Set up was simple and with the Canon Print Studio Pro software that plugs into your favorite image editing software getting awesome high quality prints is easy. Changing paper types is simple with the built in ICC profiles and the fact that I can import ICC profiles from other paper vendors is aweome.

Very impressed !

Jul 4, 2018

I've been printing black and white since 1969, owned a studio for about 20 years so I have enough experience to offer an opinion. The 1000 is the first ink jet photo printer I've purchased and I can't think of any thing to change. Does it use ink? Yep, sure does. Is it costly to buy? Yep, sure is. Does it cost money to use? Of course. Does it feed roll paper? Nope, who cares. Does it take 10 minutes to print a B&W 17x22? Yep, again who cares. Used to take me days. Does it produce outstanding color and black and white prints? Absolutely. I am very pleased.

WON'T PRINT 11X17 BORDERLESS!

Apr 17, 2017

I was so excited to get this printer! I updated from the Canon Pro9000 MKII. 99% of everything I print is for my portfolio....which is 11x17 borderless. I have custom portfolio casings that I have spent lots of money on....so I'm locked into this size. But after tons of time on the phone with Canon, I sadly found out that there is no way to print borderless on this size! What a shame. I would have NEVER gotten this printer had I known that. It seems insane that they wouldn't include a borderless feature seeing that it's been on every other printer! Ah!

no stars for you.....

After printing with Epson Pro-Printers for over 15 years, I took a chance and purchased the Canon Pro-1000. I am miserable... perhaps I 'got a lemon', but after more than a few calls to 'tech-support' at Canon (not so much info on their site about this model) I am totally convinced that Canon is in so over their heads in the pro-printer division that they should bow out. Get back to the cameras, PLEASE. I would tell you all the specifics, but neither you now I have the time. Just trust me, stick with Epson or any other printer manufacturer.

Great printer. Well worth the money

Jan 19, 2016

I've been very pleased with this printer. The image quality is consistently outstanding. Great colors, deep blacks, and good results on a wide variety of papers. The ink is expensive but lasts a long time, so really it's not that expensive given the number of prints you can do on a cartridge. The only challenges with it is that it is big so you need to allocate a lot of space and initial setup is kind of involved. But overall, it is very good, and in terms image quality is probably the best inkjet printer on the market.

Canon Pro 1000

What a gem of a printer. I currently have the Pixma5600 which does a terrific print up to 8x10. The inks are we;; worth the price as even other people notice the print details. However, I wanted to print larger prints to build a different portfolio. This move was prompted by the excellent reviews of the Pro 1000 on YouTube! Very excited to print 4x5, 5x7, 8x10 and 13x19. Great reproduction on the Canon papers and even an off brand paper which I have plenty. Will use that brand up and stick with the Canon papers. Tom

Fabulous Prints but print cartridge problems

Jul 31, 2018

This a fantastic print that produces wonderful 17" x 25.5 maximum sized prints. Wish there was a roll print option. I buy paper in rolls and cut to size to reduce paper costs. Had trouble with the yellow print cartridge as it no longer installs properly due to a cartridge carriage problem. In order to fix this, it requires a new print head system for $1700. Obviously not worth the cost of repair. However, the printer still appears to print great prints that use the yellow cartridge so am continuing to use it.

My Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 17 Professional Photographic Inkjet Printer with the LUCIA PRO inks were easy to set up and the ink system a snap to install. It is the LUCIA inks and the precision printhead quality that makes this PRO printer a real performer. The colors are brilliant and make exceptionally consistent prints every time. I would recommend this printer to anyone wanting to produce both black and white and color gallery quality prints. Canon hit the nail on the head with this printer.

A photo printing tank

Jan 29, 2019

Ive used a semi professional Canon Pro 9000 printer for years, and replaced the head once to extend its lifetime. But finally it failed for good, so I turned to the Pro 1000. This is a much more expensive printer and a WHOLE lot heavier (hence the Tank), and it was somewhat tricky to get it set up and working. And the ink tanks are EXPENSIVE, and it is even slower than the Pro 1000. But the quality of what it produces cant be criticized. And by the way, B&H provided great customer service.

Print quality good, but printer is still finicky

May 15, 2016

Great media sizes and really good print quality on most media. Set up and configuration was not as easy as it should or could be, especially if you want a USB connection versus wireless. Print speed is great. The maintenance cartridge had to be replaced after three prints - really! Not sure what it does, but it felt full and the printer wouldn't print anymore. Thank goodness it only costs $15.00. All in all I like it, we will see over time if it is better than the Epsom that I had before.

Could be great but crippled by driver

Dec 17, 2015

The output from this machine is stunning but it is unnecessarily crippled by the print driver - not allowing prints longer than 22. You cannot set a custom print size so that you can print a 16x24 on a 17x25 sheet of paper. Printing 16x20 instead chops off a huge amount of image from a 3:2 camera. This has caused me to consider unloading the printer and getting an Epson P800 every day. Since I can't print the size I want at 17.... this is basically a glorified 13 machine.

UNREAL!

May 14, 2017

i went thru 2 Epson's - a 4800 and 4880, both due to clogged print heads. I wasted so much money on ink attempting to power wash and other maintenance suggestions to resolve the wasted time, money and materials. The Canon PRO-1000 is spectacular! So many features- such as the printer shaking the ink after being turned off, the anti clog technology, and most importantly the quality of the prints! Now, along with my Canon pro cameras I am 100% Canon all the way!

Was able to make really nice prints after my paper arrived. I'm happy with the quality of the prints. My unit displayed 'Error B208' after prints. I called Canon tech support and they said there is something wrong with my unit. A new one is on it's way to me but I have to wait a few days. The real frustration is that I have to pack and unpack this expensive beast. You would think that Canon could get it right the first time and not put out defective units.

Canon pro 1000 great printer

Aug 14, 2016

I have had many Epson printers with constant problems with head cleaning Epson 4000, 4800,4900 Epson 9600. I got a good deal on the canon 8300 printer and never have had dropped colors. I bought this printer because of the reviews and so far I love it. Paper feeding is a dream not one misfead. The print color is accurate and bronzing is not a problem. I have not used it for Mat prints yet only pro luster. Easy set up and great prints right out of the box.

I got my Pro-1000 up and running yesterday and so far I really love the printer. I upgraded from an old Pro-9000 and I can truly say it is a huge improvement. Prints are gorgeous, especially the black and white's. My only complaint is that I read multiple reviews stating the printer shipped with a full (as in all 80 ml's) ink set. In fact this is one of the reasons I chose it over the epson...but alas mine shipped with inks less that half full...bummer.

It made beautiful 8.5x11 and 11x17 prints on Red River UP Satin. BUT IT WONT PRINT ON 7X10 GREETING CARD STOCK. I wish I had known. Id have gone with the Epson. After all, my 3800 lasted for 11 years without any problems until the black channel died, apparently forever. If someone can tell me how to print greeting cards Ill change the review. But not to 5 stars. If it will print 4x6 and 8.5x11 then it ought to print 7x10 right out of the box.

Slowest printer on Earth. Takes forever loading new images

Dec 1, 2016

I'm so upset I opened this box and loaded ink. This printer takes forever loading new images (USB2), slow printing with absolutely the same quality like my $160 printer, at least to my eye - I'm 20 years in business, photography is my the only income. I'd rather buy 3 printers 300 each and print same quality, different sizes, etc. Really not what I expected, and I used many printers to date. I can't say nothing good about this one.
