Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens For Nikon with AE Chip

Excellent considering the price
I have tried out this new acquisition this morning and could not be more pleased. I have to admit, I was apprehensive in view of some example of this lens not being of the expected quality a new lens should have. My copy is sharp corner to corner, edge to edge. It is a bit different to use. The best I can describe: it's like using the lens with the preview button depressed at all times. So, wide open, I compose, then stop down for the depth of fi... 14mm Rokinon f/2.8
I haven't had the lens very long yet the results of the photos I've shot have been good. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven't given it a good workout. I'm using it primarily for landscape photography.

Bad Luck Times Three!
I bought this lens about three weeks ago based mostly on the recommendations (on the web) of many users. When I received the first copy, I tested it using the brick wall at my neighborhood's fire department (with their permission, of course). Upon examining the files (a total of 14--took 1 each in landscape and 1 each in portrait mode at each major f-stop for a total of 14 shots--all photos on a tripod), I discovered that the lens was defective a... Wow iam impressed
I like to do night astrophotography so I go this lense since you don't need that much high res for this type of photo. Look at the lense on the digital picture. Com and image quality wasn't great. But how suprises whas I when I start doing day photo just to test the lense. This lense is crazy Sharpe even sharper then my 16-35 f4 is really wow. Love the lense. The easiest way to focus is to to so it via live view. The only thing do is when using l... Show More

Good for the price
I have this on a 6D and it's pretty good even wide open. Just like most other reviews, it's hard to focus. My copy, the focusing ring is very close to the markings on the lens so that helps a lot. During the daylight hours, wide open is not the best but still good. At night it's great. The build seems solid and the focus ring is smooth. There are nice positive clicks in the aperture settings. My main reason in choosing this lens is the price, it's a fraction of what a L series lens is and for how much I will be using it, it's a smart choice for me.

Great lens when you get a good one.
The lens was very sharp in the center and on the left but blurry on the right, de-centered. Sent it in for exchange, hopefully I get a good one this time. I've read about other having the same problem and having to return it multiple times till they got one that worked properly. Would have been 5 stars if they improved their quality control.

Great lens!!
Works great for landscapes and skyline images. Very manual lens so it takes some time to learn and tweak. I'm using it with my Canon 5D MIII.

My go to Ultra Wide
I have numerous wides from Nikon and this one is my go to for night shots or just general high resolution landscapes. The manual focus issue is not and issue and this is one significant piece of glass at an amazing bargain.

Great for night sky and wide angle photography
This lens is the first one that I can capture the Milky Way in detail. Shooting RAW & using PS to clean it up.

Very Satisfied
I purchased this lens for a really wide angle without the fisheye look. I love it. It is perfect and very inexpensive. I use it for landscape and weddings. Easy to focus manually.

A fun addition to my bag
I see that there has been some unevenness in the production of these lenses, but my copy is tack-sharp just about corner to corner, and the focus distance, at least at infinity (by far my most-used distance for a 14mm lens), is spot on. I can just leave it on infinity, pick my f-stop, and fire away. And it makes astrophotography a fun and easy option on my 6d. Four stars for quality, and the fifth for the price!

Awesome!
I originally bought this lens because I found myself most often turning my ultra wide zoom all the way wide when I used it anyways. Great for astro and other landscapes. At 14mm, I pretty much have the focus pinned on infinity all the time. This is great as it's all manual. If you need to focus on something extremely close, it does take a lot of turning of the focus ring to get what you want. For the money, this is an incredible purchase. Very refined and sturdy construction. I'm very impressed.

Great for the money
I use this for video, and I love it. I don't need auto focus. I used to have a Tamron 15-30 for my wide, and I used it for stabilizer shots among other things, but it was so large and heavy. This lens is super light and fairly compact. I can shoot way smoother shots with this thing and its just as fast (2.8). And it doesn't take up as much space as the other one and its lighter. I love it.

Nifty lens!
This is a great way to photograph the night sky. Just set this lens to f/2 and infinity and use a cable release on a tripod. Also does a nice job on landscapes! Sharp images with bright colors.. Can't beat the price.

Really nice lens!
This is the first wide angle lens I've ever purchased. I started dabbling with nightscape photography and bought this lens for that, but it'll be a great lens for landscape stuff too. I've tested it out on two nights and I've been very happy with the results. I set the focus to infinity and the stars came out nice and sharp. I attached a Milky Way photo taken with it (still working out things like noise reduction). I'm very happy with this purchase!

Excellent value!
Purchased this lens for a night photography workshop and was not disappointed. Several experienced photographers there have been using it for years and had all positive reviews. Lack of autofocus limits it's daytime use for me.

An incredible lens
After doing a lot of research on this lens, I purchased it specifically for my trip to Utah to photograph the night sky. This was my first time using the lens and it performed incredibly well. I was worried about the manual focus, but it took maybe 5 seconds to get the perfect focus and I got some amazing shots. Even my nephew, who has the Canon 16-35 f2.8 lens, was impressed with the quality of the Rokinon and is probably going to buy this lens from me. Guess I'll just have to buy another one.

Astrophotography, Landscape, Real Estate, and more!
Great value for what it gives you. Super wide field of view, works great for landscapes, real estate photos, and even skateboarding. Great picture, solid build, and pretty big aperture. Lets in a lot of light so perfect for astrophotography.

Excellent lens
I bought this lens specifically for photographing the Milky Way and the night sky. It is great for this application. The lens is fully manual, I'm not sure if I would use it for anything other than landscape photography.

not full cine
Note: that this lens does not have the cine features of many of the Rokinon full frame lenses carried by BH. In particular aperture is no 'declicked' and there are not standard gearing teeth. So changing the aperture is noisy. Minor items, but of interest for cine use. Will put through optical tests this weekend!

Good Starscape Lens
The coma correction on this lens makes it a good choice for starscapes. The spacial distortions are usually not that noticeable in that application, but highly evident in architectural photos for example. For this limited application I would recommend it.

Incredibly Sharp and a great value
I read all of the reviews on this product plus a review on DxO and several articles posted on the web. The consensus: the lens is incredibly sharp but is manual focus only, and it has some very serious distortion issues. I have the Nikon 16-35 f4 VR, but passed on the more expensive 14-24 f2.8. I found my Nikon very versitile and a great lens, but I came to the conclusion that I really needed a wider view for some of my landscape work. This is wh... Show More

terrific lens
This lens takes amazing photos. Build quality feels solid as a rock. Image sharpness is excellent @ f4.0 and above. Some mustache distortion, CA, and vignetting can be noticeable, but correctable in ACR. And flare will occur if the sun is in a corner. I use it mostly for low angle landscapes @ f16 or above, or for nighttime shots wide open. Manual focus should not be a problem if you google hyperfocus or simply learn to line up the infinity mark ... Show More

Sharp, Good Build Quality
I currently, July 2015, use this lens with a Canon 6D. I use it to provide context for my other smaller field of view lenses and to provide stunning pictures of closer up images while still retaining the background context. Exceptional value lens (check out the non-chip confirm version for Canon quantitative resolution values of this lens. It is insanely good not even considering the low cost.
