Great Underwater Lens

Jun 21, 2014

I purchased this lens to go with my Nikon D5200 and Nimar underwater housing. I am very happy with the results. It may not be quite up to the quality of a Nikon lense but very close. Great Lense for the price.

Good Lens but hard to get used to.

May 17, 2014

The lens does what it claims to and takes fairly good photos. It's difficult to avoid blur and it shoots best from a tripod. The photo below was taken on a tripod and the deer was about twenty feet away from me when I took it. It's a slow lens and in limited light noise will become a problem as you boost your ISO to compensate. Using it for macro it works well being held held provided you have a good base and there is enough light. Otherwise you ... Show More

Amazing!

It took getting used to, but the quality of the photos is outstanding. A friend told me about this lens a while ago and I finally decided to purchase and glad I did. It's quickly becoming my new favorite and looking forward to a lot of shooting!

Excellent lens

As a macro photographer I have to say the images are as sharp as they can get. The auto focus is a little noisy but you shouldn't be using that for macro anyway. Once again great lens very sharp and clean images highly recommended!

Excellent macro lens

Mar 26, 2014

I bought this lens primarily for flower photography. It has performed beautifully, with the ability to produce tack-sharp focus on the subject while totally blowing out background where I don't want any detail. I principally use manual focus with autofocus assist (which Nikon calls rangefinder), and the focus ring works smoothly enough, and with low-enough gearing, to allow me to achieve perfect focus on the targeted point. It's by no means a lightweight lens, but because I shoot almost exclusively with a tripod the weight is not an issue for me. I'm totally satisfied with my purchase.

Great lens

Just bought this lens before heading to Hawaii, wanted it for the macro in taking flowers. Takes great photos of flowers and other bugs such as a spider I found by the pool. I then took this lens up to the top of Mauna Kea and it gave me nice clear photos of the sun set even in 60 mph winds.

Exactly what I was looking for

Jan 2, 2014

The Sigma 105mm was rated highly by a number of reputable reviewers so I decided to give it a try. I was hoping I could do better than the Nikon competitor for a lot less money. As soon as I opened the box, I put it through a test for sharpness and distortion. I got what I was looking for. Great lens. I couldn't be more pleased.

First dedicated Macro

I will be using this product for flower photography mostly. It was a toss up between this lens and the name brand and I didn't want to be too snobby so I thought I would give this a try. In all of my shooting with it so far, I can see no visible differences between this lens and the name brand lens. This one is a little louder. At first I thought it was the auto focus that was loud but then realized it was the image stablization that was making t... Show More

Great Lens for Macro work

Dec 30, 2013

Have not had a chance to use this as much as I wanted, due to weather and travel. But pictures are tack sharp and the OS is great. Focus is quick and manual ring makes final focus easy. This well built easy to use lens. Have not used for portrait work as of yet.

A GREAT BUY!

Dec 19, 2013

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT MACRO AND PORTRAIT LENS THAT MORE THAN LIVES UP TO THE MANUFACTURERS CLAIMS. SUPERIOR QUALITY IN SHARPNESS, COLOR RENDITION, IMPERCEPTABLE DISTORTION, AND ALL OTHER CHARACTERISTICS, THIS LENS WILL FOCUS TO 12.12, PROVIDES FULL-FRAME COVERAGE, IS BUILT TO LAST, ALL FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. I HAVE FOUND NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AND IT IS A PLEASURE TO USE.

Excellent lens for the price

I use this lens for portrait and macro photography. It works great with the Nikon D 7100. I like this lens a lot, but if I could change one thing, I would have it focus faster on close distance range.

Absolutely tack sharp

Jun 25, 2013

I've been a big fan of Nikkor lenses for years. I was lloking for a 105mm macro lens and researched my options. The test reports I read rated this lens not only sharp but THE Sharpest for the Nikon. I've used this hand held and the optical stabilization works well. On a tripod with my Nikon D800 the images produced are stunning. I highly recommend this lens for anyone serious about tack sharp macro work.

Very Good Macro and Portrait Lens

May 19, 2013

Photozone and DXO Mark rate this lens as being the best 1:1 Macro lens for Nikon. The Zeiss is optically superior except for the fact that it lacks AF, image stabilization, and only magnifies at 1:2, so if those features are important to you then your choice should be the Sigma I tested this lens on a copy-stand with a focus chart and compared it to the Nkon 85mm 1.8G which is widely considered to be the best resolving lens for DSLR (as of 5-19-1... Very Sharp, little chromatic aberration

Apr 11, 2013

I bought this to do outdoor macro photography: flowers, nature, insects, etc. I am impressed with it's sharpness and minimal chromatic aberration. I was wanting to get a macro lens and wanted to keep it in the $500 price range. But I read on several reviews that this lens was a really good one. So I went ahead and got it. And I'll tell you, it's really worth the extra $$. The optical stabilization is awesome. It honestly wouldn't be worth it tryi... Show More

Simply stunning!

Apr 5, 2013

I purchased this lens based on reading online reviews and decided to give it a shot. This lens is super sharp for macro photos and doubles as a portrait lens as well although it is a little soft wide open, but by f/4 all of that is simply gone. You should be using manual focus for macro work, but if you aren't you will notice that the lens tends to hunt in lower light a lot.

Great lens, great value

Aug 22, 2012

I'm having a great time with this lens. I'm shooting with a D90 and purchased the Sigma to replace a Tokina 100mm macro. The Tokina was no slouch, but I was really looking for some OS/IS implementation. There are not many reviews online regarding using OS with hand held macro shooting, so I'll say that the Sigma performs well in that regard. This time of year I'm a bit of a bug hunter, and you've got to be quick (and lucky) to get a good shot. No... Show More

Not good for me

Aug 13, 2012

It does not work for me. First -- it claimed that lens is f/2.8. But I'm never seen this number -- not in view winder, not in EXIF. It always show f/3.2-5.6 in EXIF. Second - it produce vary soft images, not sharp at all. I have return it thanks for B&H return policy.

Finding it doesn't always go down to the 2.8. Using on a D700 and on occasions When i've wanted to open the lens up to 2.8 it would only go to 3.0 or 3.3. Also disappointed that it wouldn't work with my tele-converter, not even manual focus.
