Solidly Built Macro Lens

Jan 26, 2016

Well designed macro lens in the popular 105 mm focal length. Solid but not overly heavy. Lens length remains constant during focusing.Focus was quick and accurate. Color rendition was true. Sigma provides a lens hood, an extension for the hood and a very nice case.Purchasing items from B&H is always a pleasure, knowing that any problems are quickly rectified.

Two important features in one

Jan 10, 2016

This lens fills two needs, fast aperture in a medium telephoto, and close 1:1 macro focusing. Images I've made so far are sharp and bright. I've noticed that according to my Nikon D7100, the lens is not as fast at close focus. It is f 5.6 at closest focus (1:1) and opens to f 2.8 from about 7 feet to infinity. This shouldn't be a major disadvantage. I've never heard of a fixed focal length lens having variable 'f' stops as many zoom lenses do.

Best lens for an amazing price!

Jan 8, 2016

I cannot stop loving this company called B&H. All about them is good. I had to write about them at the beginning of my review because they offer the best in everything. From products, services, etc... The lens I did not use it yet too much, but I can say that is a really good macro lens. Again, for the price is more than good. It is pretty fast and sharp.

Pure Beauty

Jan 6, 2016

First off, I want to say I have NO complaints about purchasing this lens... Really sharp, super creamy bokeh, smooth focus, great colours and the lens itself just looks simply gorgeous.... Very solid feel, and works well with APS-C cameras (I have a D5200). I can almost guarantee it'll feel great in your hand... Only con I can think of personally is that it isn't all that great getting good images of things that are far away. Say, a distant tree or boat you want to zoom in on more than your kit lens can... But hey, it's a macro lens, and it does it's job well.

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro

I'm using on D3200 crop sensor camera. I've used it for macro as well as product shots and find the lens sharp and easy to use. It does hunt for focus, but I shoot on manual focus with a tripod most of the time so this is not an issue. I find it also takes good portrait photo's with a decent bokeh. When hand-held, the stabilization does a good job; allowing for a faster shutter speed.

Nice Lens

Dec 18, 2015

I have had this lens for a few weeks now and have taken about 300 shots with it. I am using it on my Nikon D7000. So far, so good. Auto focus is not as fast as some other lenses, but this is a macro after all. It is well built and feels very sturdy. Image quality is as good if not better than the Nikkor 105mm Micro I tried out. It comes with a nice case and a lens hood adapter for digital sensor cameras, which is nice but doesn't seem necessary. ... Show More

Sigma 105mm Macro lens is a great lens for close Ups

Dec 14, 2015

This is as sharp of a lens as I own. good contrast. No noticeable lens distortion in the corners; barrel, pincushion. I own two Nikon macro Zoom. They are great lenses; sharp but not as sharp as the Sigma. The Sigma allows me to photograph just the Bee on the flower, not just the flower with a bee on it. I considered a 90mm Macro. But the 105mm allow more distance from the camera to the subject. The lens appears to be strudy. But, I have not had it long enough to evaluate.

I've only had my sigma 105 for a few weeks but have had a lot of fun taking macro pictures of ordinary things around the house. It is very sharp and the bokeh is great. I would definitely recommend this lens. It will bring new creatitivy to my hobby!

Great Lens, Great price!

Nov 10, 2015

I use this 105 mm f 2.8 macro lens for portrait photography. It's fast, sharp, and creates a great dreamy background blur. I love that I can stand back with this lens, especially when I am working with children, at it allows them a little more space to be comfortable and be themselves. I use this lens all the time now and I absolutely love it. I have not found any cons yet, other than needing a bigger gear bag.

Fantastic lens, but f/2.8? see the chart

Mar 16, 2015

This lens has outstanding quality. The build feels durable. This lens is super sharp. Being 1:1 ratio, it is very hard to have the whole image in focus with wide open aperture. No fault of the lens... just a flat sensor trying to recording texture. That's the way macro is being so close. This lens is high quality. I've used it for macro & sports. Focus is fast; not the fasted out there but pretty good.My only complaint.... is this really f/2.8???... Show More

I love my new sigma but !!

Jan 25, 2015

I had the first generation sigma 105mm macro and loved it.When I saw Sigma came out with a new model with OS I just had to get it only one thing bothered me was the Min aperture of 22. Well on my Nikon D7100 the min aperture is 32 not 22 , I just thought I would point that out. and if you want to use the lens for sports it focuses as fast as my Sigma 50-150mm 2.8. And thats fast!!! and even sharper

Let me start off with I am not a pixel peeper. This lens is quick, responsive an renders great color. I've seen no signs of chromatic aberration or haloing. Very impressive performance, out performs the nikon at f/16 and up, key apertures for macro.

No f/2.8 for me so far

Dec 2, 2014

Same as Raftrdude - I've never been able to open the lens up to f/2.8 on my Nikon D700. Aside from that, I really have had a great time with this lens. I received it as a Christmas present last year and I didn't do much with it until I took a macro course but after that, it has spent A LOT of time on my camera. I don't use the auto-focus aspect often at all. I seem to get much better results with manual focus when I'm truly doing macro photograph... Show More

Excellent Overall and Macro Capabilities

Nov 26, 2014

I bought this lens primarily for its macro capabilities but its become a frequent addition to my bag for general purposes. The quality of the glass is excellent and it produces terrific results. As a macro capable lens it may be a bit heavy but otherwise a lens I enjoy quite a bit.
