This tiny mike gives you A full-bodied sound with body/bottom and nice mid/highs. Really pleasant sounding. You cant believe what you hear having this little guy on the boom/pole. It works flawless interior in ambient/reverberant rooms too; many shotguns (MKH416 is one) sounds terrible in roomy enviroments (the back loob has often A very strange frequency pattern) This is A perfect microphone for Documentary filmmakers/DSLR independent filmmakers. I do work with feature film, commercials, docs, music recording and this Sanken shotgun work for all those purposes perfectly. My best microphone buy in many years...since I bought my Schoeps CMIT 5.

I researched for weeks looking for a small diaphragm condenser that would work well indoors as well as outdoors. Our primary use is for indoor dialogue (interviews, etc.). Wound up renting this Sanken mic for a day to test it out and immediately loved it. Bought it that day. The room we do most of our recordings in has some sound treatment and is fairly dead acoustically. The CS-M1 has a beautiful off-axis roll-off and tone and sounds very natural. Very little EQ needs to be done for our purposes. Has a little more top-end presence and no heavy bottom end. Great RF rejection and reportedly works well in high humidity settings. Super small and light. Very little handling noise. I love the supercardioid pattern which is perfect for our needs. Super quiet mic. Sounds beautiful. I will definitely be buying a second one when I get the $. No regrets. ... More

Got this mic to have it on camera from a recommendation of a professional sound recordist (he uses it as his main shotgun mic indoors). The sound comes out of it is beautiful. Also it's so tiny and take very little space on the camera rig. It's directional enough to capture sound of what only happens in the frame, but not too crazy where you get off axis sound of people on sides of the frame. Also off-axis sound and noise is very pleasant and doesn't have this tubing or echo effect as some long shotguns have. The . windshield foam that comes with mic is useless, doesn't protect even from small winds, maybe could be used as a pop-filter. The Softie windshield is great, the only downside it's a bit big for my taste, but does the job well. ... More

I feel stupid for not having this mic much sooner. It sounds fantastic. Really full, clear and balanced. The overall rejection is amazing, you can shoot in a room with a busy street outside or construction and not hear it at all. Extremely happy and impressed. I initially bought it because I want a shorter mic for my on camera shotgun; but now using this as our main microphone period.

I echo everything that Patrik said about this mic. I have used many shotgun and cardioid mics over the past 20 years for all the work I've done as a sound mixer. Having transitioned into the documentary filmmaking realm, this is now my go to mic for not only boom pole use, but especially for on-camera use. The size and weight are perfect, and the sound quality is excellent. At this point, I can't imagine using anything else.

Sounds better than my Rode or Sennheisser boom mikes. I prefer this dynamic range and low noise by a mile.

As a doc filmmaker, I'm always looking to keep a low profile and small footprint. This mic is tiny, but captures excellent audio !!
