This mic is good as a backup mic for a higher end one. If you do professional video work, stay away from this and get a Rode. Sound is clean, although lacking volume. If the sound source is around 3-4 feet away you get the best results, further than that it's very weak. For the price I can't complain...it's better than the onboard mic from a dslr or a video camera.

If your Oliver Stone this mic is not for you. That being said for the regular guy making home movies, school projects or like me making stuff for web content. Like YouTube or Vimeo this is perfect. I used with my Kodak Zi8 and Canon HFR10 on on a shoe bracket the sound is much better like a 10x difference. The L shape plug is huge to prevent damage. And the cord is perfect n doesnt tangle. For price it's a steal. The only negative is there's no power on light.I'm ordering another for my other cam. Thanks

I'm happy enough with the quality from this microphone. It works and it sounds more professional than the on camera mic. The battery seems like it will last a long time and the cord is easy enough to keep out of the way. (I wrap it around the front of the shoe mount to keep it off my screen). I would only use this as a replacement for the on board mic for quick audio. To get better results, get the mic closer to your speaker/talent. If you've got $ to spend, don't get a rode - buy a external recorder and this for your quick and dirty work and as a backup. ... More

The audio from this microphone is a vast improvement over the onboard microphone on my Nikon D800. The audio comes thru cleaner and more directional. I use it primarily when I'm capturing b-roll to get nice ambient sound. For interviews I use a separate Sony Wireless lavaliere. The price to quality beats out most other microphones costing twice as much. If audio is important to you this little gem is sure to be a nice, affordable upgrade.

Mounted it on my Canon 7D and it eliminated not only the wind noise but all of the other distracting sounds such as motor noise, zoom noise and general holding the camera sounds. Acts like a microphone that is a least 3X more expensive. The cord was a little annoying at first until I looped it on the left front of the camera problem solved.

Seems a good mike to go with the Canon 5D. No batteries needed as it uses the camera power. Works well in Auto mode too as the more expensive RODE requires mike power and on/off switch. (Lost several shots in forgetting to turn the RODE on). This is a great set and forget microphone.

I bought this mic to use for film school projects. I have a fairly low grade, basic camcorder and I picked up this mic to be able to use the camera as an audio deck. Even though my camcorder doesn't have a display for audio levels, I was nervous while taping, the audio sounded good. I shot outdoors at a protest rally and was able to get a great ambient sound as well as focused sound for interviews, with no wind noise. I'm not an audio professional, but this microphone does exactly what I need it to do, record clean sound for my media work. As a student, the price was right for me. There is no battery level indication on this mic which would be nice. ... More

I bought this for my Canon 7D. I was really hoping that it would eliminate or at least reduce the hiss when compared to the onboard mic. No dice. It does improve the sound a bit but it isn't really worth the hassle. Granted it didn't cost much. Makes me wonder if the Rode mic is that much better at twice the price. If so - I will get one today. It does not pick up sound too far away unless it is really loud. Even with normal conversations you need to strain to hear them. I was planning on using it for my kids band concerts and such. But since they are usually so loud I doubt this mic would improve the recording vs. the onboard mic. Really can't recommend it. I really wanted to like it as it is a great size and compact to slip in the camera bag. Instead it is going back. ... More

I am very happy with this product. I bought it for my new Nikon 300s. I use it for sporting events, rodeos, family gatherings and air shows to name a few. Sound quality is good. The mic eliminates the camera noise that is so irritating from the built-in mic. There is a slight hiss that I cannot account for but it is not noticed when there is action noise such as at a soccer match,or ball game or at airshows where the event noise overwhelms the hiss. For the price a great value.

Have been using this for a few months now and it works great. Used with my canon vixia hf m31, creates much better sounding videos. It picks up the sound in which direction you are pointing it with minimal background noise. Best mic I could find for a decent price compared to some other high end models.

I used it with my digital camera to record about 90 minutes of video at a noisy fish fry and outdoor car show, and it did a much better job than the built-in camera mike would have done. It will be a permanent item in my camera bag. Only complaint: There should be an LED to remind you that it's on, so you don't accidentally leave it on and run the batteries down. Also, it should come with a plug adapter for equipment that has micro-sized inserts.

I compared this against the Rhode Videomic Directional Condenser using the video function on the Canon 7D. The first distinction between this one and the Rhode is that it is significantly smaller in both size and in price. The sound quality is different and I chalk that up to 1) You get what you pay for and 2)This is a stereo mic and the Rhode is directional. I ultimately want to use it on the Canon HV 40, and it fits perfectly when compared to the Rhode. It provides decent sound, but it is certainly different.

I use this on my Nikon D7000. I like AT mikes and this one is very competent. The size is good for a DSLR. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that the sensitivity is somewhat less than the on-board mike, but works fine if audio input is set to max (setting level 3). The stereo effect is best when used close.

Be sure to tell your sales rep you want the camera shoe mount. Otherwise, you will receive a model with a standard mic stand mount, and you'll have to buy the SLR mount for $10. Or pay that amount to return the product for a replacement. (This is the first annoying experience I have ever had with B&H.)Very good mic, though. (I borrowed one from a friend before buying this model.)

I bought this mic so that I can record videos with my D300S without the annoying whooshing of wind noises. I was hoping that it would be more directional and not pickup my voice or any sound behind the camera, but thats not going to be the case. However, for the price, its very well built and nothing is flimsy about it. You've got to remember to turn it off when you're not recording as it uses a tiny button type battery which is not readily available like AAAs

Both L and R channels exhibited an extremely high noise floor. I called for factory support twice and received a recording promising that someone would call me back. They never called. I purchased a competitive microphone for $1.00 less that worked great. I'm very disappointed in A-T because I have used their headphones for many years. Time to consider alternate sources!

I should start by mentioning I am no audio or video expert. I have this mounted on my Panasonic PV-GS70D camcorder. It fits great and sounds better. The sound improves magically over the built in microphone. I add the the optional fuzzy windscreen and the is absolutely no wind noise whistling past the mic.

I used this mic with my Canon t3i for behind the scenes video on a film set. It's much better than the onboard mic and the stereo is great for catching environment and multiple people talking. It does lose quite a bit of pickup across any distance, though. And I got a bit of noise that I'm not crazy about. Overall, though, a great, affordable alternative to the on-board mic.

I am using this mic for videorecording on my Nikon D7000, and I am very satisfied with the results. I get good stereo sound, and the AF noise from my Nikon AF-S 35 are elliminated. Only thing i missed is angular switch to choose between directional and wide, like my older Sony mic has. Great value for the money. Regards Ruben Hobby DSLR user.
