It is pricey. This is a very good tool. You can work faster with tripod and adds protection to camera body. worth the price and will buy another for second body.

You get what you pay for
Everyone knows about Really Right Stuff gear - high quality engineering and design but ... pricey. This bracket is exactly that. It is beautifully designed and engineered but a third more than the nearest competitor (Kirk) and triple the Chinese brands. I bought it because I want to use it with a wired shutter release and intervalometer. The RRS bracket is the only one available that makes that possible. But considering what I spent on my X-T2 and a few quality lenses, an extra hundred bucks for this bracket isn't really an issue.

An Essential Addition
I prefer to hold a camera in the left hand and could never be comfortable holding my A9, especially when using zooms. The RRS L-Plate gives me the adjustable grip I was longing for. Both hands are now comfortably holding the camera. I also hooked my camera strap to the bottom left hole of the L Plate and to the right eyelet of the camera so the camera hangs down comfortably and provide stability when shooting. It is worth every penny.

A convenient addition to the Olympus body
This low profile Arca Swiss base plate adds very little to the bulk of the Olympus E-M1 camera body and negligible weight. "Fits like a glove" comes to mind. It does not impede the operation of the battery door. It has a screw hole for direct attachment to a tripod head screw, if you prefer. An RRS side bracket can be attached to the base plate to convert the assembly to an L-bracket. The side bracket largely allows the articulated rear screen to operate with little (but not no) interference to its full range of operation. Essential if you have other RRS Arca Swiss equipment.

RRS L bracket over priced and under preformed
Well made L bracket yes does it move when installed on a battery grip yes Does it scratch the paint off your new Sony YES DOES IT MOVE EVEN MORE WHEN YOU INCORPORATE A SPIDER LITE HAND STRAP ANOTHER YES Would I do it again NO! I can only judge on my own experience My canon 5Dmk III WITH A battery grip A Kirk L bracket and a spider hand strap is as solid as a Rock So needles to say I am more than disappointed

Great idea with major flaw
Thought about this for some time. Balancing in this way is much much easier for a vertical mounted camera, but there is a major flaw for mounting this on a Video Fluid Head - there is no mount or screw thread on the bottom to mount a plate perpendicular to this to go into a video fluid head. First class product to go with Hasselblad X1D
Recently, I bought the RRS BX1D-L Set L-Plate from B&H for the Hasselblad X1D plus the X1D hand Strap. I must say that it is a perfectcombination. I have so happy that it if fit perfectly on the X1D in termsof the design and as well as the quality. This is probably the best accessories for the Hassy X1D. See the photos attached. Great Plate
I've used many types of tripod plates and I think this one is the best. It's contoured correctly, it's smooth around the corners and does what it's intended to do - look to an Arca style head.

Does what it is supposed to do
The plate is accurately machined, nicely finished, and fits perfectly. It provides good access to the battery, memory card slot, and articulating LCD panel. It has one safety stop screw instead of two, but it is on the same side as the shutter release where it is most often needed. It adds noticeable height and weight to the camera. The idea of attaching a hex key with magnets in a recess on the bottom side is interesting but not particularly effective; I found the key in the bottom of my camera bag.

Pricey...but worth it.
I've purchased many L-brackets for my cameras over the years...they're kind of like cars. They'll all get you from point A to point B, but if you can afford a (insert favorite high end car brand), why not? You're paying for the fine workmanship and attention to detail. Again, it's not a must have, but definitely a nice to have.

Very well made but if you decide to switch the battery door on to the bracket you will lose the weather seal for battery compartment.

Outstanding
For the past thirty years or so I've used Bogen/Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods and monopods... In general I have liked the quick release plates they both use, but there's a catch; they're not the same. Heck, I have a couple different Manfrotto QR styles. Having multiple plates is ok if the tripod/monopod design is using the same plate already attached to the camera, or if I won't be switching midstream somewhere. If not...they're anything but quic... Solid and well made, but gasket was problematic
I love the design and build quality of this bracket. Initially, I was skeptical about moving the battery door, but the switch was quite easy and well described, and the door itself works well. However, after 3 weeks, I started having difficulty removing the battery and found the the foam rubber gasket around the battery compartment had begun to squish into the interior. After re positioning a few times, I finally cut the section out because it just wouldn't stay in place. I feel a better gasket solution is required... the price certainly warrants that. I would rate a 5 otherwise.

Great with the A7 III
I had a couple of problems, but they were solved by reading the instruction sheet that comes in the box. The battery door must be removed from the camera and installed on the base plate. There is a little slider on the inside of the door to release it from the camera. Even more impressed than usual
When I first saw the $200 price tag I hesitated. But with the new adjustable l-bracket, I can easily shoot verticals with full access to the accessories (USB/HDMI) -- delighted! Well worth the price.

Annoying
No rating and this is not made for my A7RIII, The Hex range is inside so you cannot remove it. Its like leaving your car key inside your house and therefore you cannot turn the ignition on. You cannot replace the battery without removing the L plate because the battery door is blocked. Last weekend, I passed by Boston to take photos only to find out that my battery power was low.
